My issue with chapter 13 was that it was about an hour too long, they don't really explain when you can use the new mechanics. There's also some glitches with the enemies.

More details on that:
I kept trying to use the ring spell that sucked the enemies into the void and it wouldn't let me in the one on one fights, which I think is by design. Also the armor knight things kept losing their sword so that I couldn't cast holy by dodging, so I'd have to drain their energy, refill MP, and then finish them off which took forever. Hopefully the patch they're talking about fixes that. The iron giant variant enemy in the open base area also glitched out and kept trying to attack me even when I went far away.

On the story at this point:
I like the progression of everyone getting separated and things going to shit, just I think the chapter made its point and then it went out for too long before you get a sword again or your powers. Had no problem with the dungeon besides that other than some repetitive enemies and stuff jumping out.

The usual issues with the story where they don't set everything up properly, although you do like your buddies so that part works. Luna's brother wasn't set up enough for that fight to really work. Was hard to me to understand what the main baddie was saying since Noct's screaming and the music covered it up. I can tell this is the Nomura part of the story that is remaining

I'm at the 2nd to last point of no return I think, so doing some sidequests now as I'm poor in gold unless I sell a bunch of stuff and I probably need to gain a few levels before the final push.

Buff Iggy and Prompto's vitality (defense) and HP as much as you can. You can get Magitek accessories later that buff both at once, Gold Bangels are great for HP, etc...

Teamwork tree adds in things like First aid kits that your team will use on you and each other, certain moves that stun/flinch or inflict status effects on the enemy (which makes battle more efficient, which mitigates damage indirectly).

My team is very balanced and they all hold their own. Even the large unavoidable attacks can be mitigated by a well times tech (janky, but effective).

Thanks for the help. I have been pretty bad with the systems in this game. This thread has pretty much held my hand throughout.

Where qre the horses that have a better chance at dropping hexihorn?

There's a hunt in Old Lestallum, to avoid so much travelling between respawns I leave my car near the horse spawn, then complete the hunt > "return to rest stop" in menu which takes me back to Old Lestallum> pick up hunt again > "return to car" in menu > short walk back to horses and repeat until it drops.

use the food that gives 50% drop rate, works a treat.

You can get 100% drop rate food.

Also save just before you engage in the hunt, no need running back and forth like that.

Ah I didn't know that about the food. I read that someone did that save method but it never ever dropped and concluded that the loot that spawns is set on the start of the quest itself, not on death of the horse so i didn't want to risk it.

but if that way works, that's definitely the better one.

I think I've finally got enough hours into the game to give a fair critique of what I've played so far. I'm about 20 hours in and I'm only on chapter 7. I've been spending a lot of time doing side quests and just general screwing around.

I really enjoy the battle system, it's fast paced and it's got enough nuances to it that it doesn't become boring. It can occasionally get a little hectic when your fighting huge mobs of enemies and the camera can be annoying sometimes. I have an issue where every time I do a link attack or blindside the camera goes really low to the ground and I have to readjust it manually. The camera can also have issues when fighting in enclosed areas such as caves. The onscreen prompts of when to dodge can help mitigate this issue for the most part though. I'm still not sure what I think about how magic works in this game, I haven't unlocked anything other than Fire, Ice and Lightning. As a whole though I thunk the battle system is a plus.

The environments in this game are really great, the lighting is fantastic and I enjoy just running around taking in the sights. When I don't want to go to my objective on foot, the load times when fast travelling are pretty bad though. They do give you a lot of options when getting around it just takes a bit long when calling your car to you or fast travelling. It would be nice if they could cut the load times down a bit. Otherwise I haven't had any major issues with performance. There are framers drops here and there, but nothing that bothered me.

As for the story, it's a bit disjointed so far, but I haven't gotten far enough to make a judgement on it yet. I will say that I really enjoy all four of the main characters. I was worried that they were going to make Noctis a moody teenager, but I've really been please try surprised at his personality so far. I was also worried that Prompto was going to be too over the top and annoying, but he's actually probably my favorite bro.

Anyways, this post had gone on long enough, I hope everyone is enjoying the game. I can't wait until I finally have some time off over the holidays to really put some hours in.

Thanks guys

How do I get the 100% drop food?

What are some good items to get before getting on the boat? I don't plan to go back until post game, even though I know I can.

So far I already have:

Thunderbolt Sword
Ultima blade
2X moogle charms
Handful of royal arms, mostly using rod and the first sword for buffs.

I'm level 38, figure that's a good time to get on the boat.

Oh, that might be true. I got it first time so maybe needs testing if you're brave enough! :3

Castlemark Tower is not glitched, you just to need to go to the fourth part and follow a path that is easy to miss. go to youtube , i saw a video that made me follow the correct one to the boss

I know the tower itself isn't glitched. I was referring to the Red Giant ability where it sucks my whole team towards him like a vacuum. One occasion when I was 3/4 of the way through the panels, one red giant glitched and was doing that move without pause and there was no way to escape the infinity vacuum. So I had to quit to menu and load the auto save at the start.

The story randomly started talking about a place called
Caem
out of nowhere like i'm supposed to know where, what, why. and I'm seeing there's events that apparently happened off screen. The writer of this story did a very bad job.

Just got the platinum trophy, after 115 Hours.
It's a good and special game. But also has some unlocked potential. Would rate it a good 8/10

Could imagine giving it a 9/10 with all the DLCs, updates and maybe adding removed content and more cutscenes.

Just finished Chapter 13. A bit long but I have no issue with it overall. If that's what breaks this game for some people then I probably have a very different idea of what a JRPG is than them.

Forgot what the dungeon was called but it was in the sewers and god that was awful. The camera in close quarters is horrible. I went up and down and circles and all I did was end back at the very beginning. I exited with no hesitation.

Didn't unlock the boss? :p

Couldn't resist any longer any longer and got my 560k exp tripled. Hoped it would be level 90 but it stopped at level 86. Will continue with the story now. Hope I find some expericast material along the way.

Is there somewhere I can get Promptos fanfare impression?

out of everything so far the battle system is the worst aspect of the game. Not lnly is it a far too simple hack and slash (i mean the skill tree is downright barren) it also has one of the worst cameras I have seen in a game like this. Kingdom Hearts 1 is maybe worse but thats certainly a low bar.

even Witcher 3s combat felt better than this

It's not a hack and slash. If you're playing it like one then you're doing it very wrong.

Got all Royal Arms. 71 hours on the clock. The finale awaits. If the climax and ending is great, then... HM. More on that after I finish and gather my thoughts. It may be a very long write-up.

I'm really scared to see where the story really goes off the rails because the transition from Chapter 5 to 6 is some of the worst storytelling i've ever experienced in gaming. No hyperbole.

I don't even remember what that was, I guess that says it all.

The camera is really bad in 3 situations :

- Cramped spaces
- When fighting around trees and bushes (they don't turn invisible when in front of the camera)
- When fighting large and tall creatures, notably when you target their head, but you are not in the air.

The camera setting can be changed in the options, I'll check if some of them improves the experience, but I know you can change the camera distance.

But even if those are really badly handled, the combat is really good in itself and offer a lot of gameplay potential, you just need to know how to change weapons for the right enemies, use positioning for dealing greater damage (back and side attacks), use counter effectively and attempt link strike when near an ally. And I don't even mention the combat potential for the Finishers, techniques and air combat.

It's a simple combat system to learn, hard to master. I don't know what to tell you more than maybe... get better ?

The level design in itself is really good, the controls are simply not suited for it.

Honestly with the way you respawn instantly when you fall it never really was a problem, the only tricky part was when the camera went 2D but that's it. Using the "force walk" by going in defensive mode helps a lot (and it reminded me of Tomb Raider...Well the whole dungeon is a better Tomb Raider game than the recent Tomb Raider games...).
