Popped in the disc and played a good deal of Chapter 1.

I'm not compelled by this game at all. First I feel like it's technically a mess. The frame-pacing issues make this game feel anything but smooth. The weird textures in the character models/environment come off as distracting.

Second, the character/narrative direction. While I like the design of 4 bros, I feel like this narrative isn't going to do them justice. The over-world is big and expansive, but already I feel over-world fatigue. Also, the English voiceover is unpalatable.

Idk GAF, its cool that you folks can appreciate this game, but this isn't what I signed up for when I saw something entirely different at E3 2013.

Jason Kidd murdered my dog in cold blood!
I've only done like 4 small side quests and a hunt and now I'm level 16 with the main quest battles being around level 9. Guess I'll just leave all hunts for post game and almost all the side quests as well. They really should have balanced the main quests around actually doing most of the content, or just have a hard difficulty. That's my biggest complaint so far

That would be a terrible, terrible idea. Not everyone wants to have an 80 hour main campaign. While I would definitely play on hard if given the opportunity, the game actually gets a lot harder as you move along (depending on your level and your willingness to abuse certain mechanics).

About 6 hours in, on chapter 3, level 17. Loving it so far, including the narrative choices in the first few chapters, but that's a discussion for another post. Gonna do some side quests and get to lvl 20 before continuing the story.

Evidently. IMO this game just has a haphazard feel to it. And of course, I think that is mainly due to the sudden change in direction, etc. That said, major props to Tabata for getting in there an trying to salvage/create something great out a troublesome situation.

It's the PS4 Pro HQ mode the one with big framepacing problems. OG PS4 and Pro Lite mode barely have framepacing issues.

Spoke to soon, it gets a little bit stuttery exploring around, thankfully its not all the time, but its not smooth all the time. Pity.

Story speculation based on the Cosmogony books found in Chapter 1 & 3:
Given that the guy in the book cover (Nadir) looks like Ardyn and it says that Bahamut came to the human realm to find a woman worthy of the Hexagods to be the first Oracle, I'm connecting the dots and I think that Ardyn will turn out to be Bahamut reincarnated and that the first Oracle will be Gentiana.

Ah, I'm so glad I didn't spoil myself further than the Judgement Demo. I want to find out if these theories are real by myself.

Ignis scares the shit out of me everytime he shouts "That's it, I came up with a new recipe" out of nowhere and we get a close shot of him.

Should have heard him lay into the guy streaming with Kagari last night. The bros do NOT take kindly to Noctis failing at fishing. Ignis especially.

Its rushed too, needed at least one more year in the oven.

Like super rushed...lol. I feel like they essentially started development in 2014.

Its cool that they were super ambitious, but man, this needed more baking time. There's the December update to look forward to though.

Told myself I would play for a bit just to get to the end of chapter 1. 6 hours later I was still on the damn game.

Totally loving it but dear God at the differences in side quests, so many are pure shit with the occasional great one. No idea if I actually want to even continue with side quests anymore at this rate as it's so hit and miss.

Damn that update/PSN servers lol, took too long to finally get on it and even then still needed to check out some of the tuts for a refresher on the controls. Early impressions though I'd say this is gonna be a great ride!

I'm struggling to get the timing of the parry right. The shield icon pops up but most of the time for me noctis does a dodge roll.

I thought it was timing-based as well at first, but you literally just have to hold square while the prompt is up and wait for the attack to happen.

The following systems may not be broken, but they just don't work well for me:

1. Point warp during battle: only worked for me in tutorial
2. circle button is mapped for both running and starting attack near enemies: you would attack when just wanting to run by, which brings me to the next point
3. random enemy encounter: yes, believe it or not, from the imperial army to sudden appearing of wild lives, this latest mainline FF still features random encounter that you just can't easily avoid (see number 2)
4. cross button for action (picking things up) and jumping: they mess up ALL THE TIME
5. fishing: i need a longer time to figure out how it works. maybe because i've played fishing in monster hunter too much, which is a far more intuitive system

Finally get round to starting and I'm falling asleep fighting Gladiolus in the tutorial. No more messing around tomorrow

What is suppose to be part of the December update? Kind of weird for them to release the game have a day one patch and then talk about another patch in December.
