Enjoying the game a fair bit, but oh god is there some way to get Prompto to shut his stupid clown mouth? I guess later on when shit gets down he'll calm a bit, but man.. when he singed the battle win melody it was so bad.

Also as some people have said already, playing with Japanese voice and English subtitles/text is so distracting. I ignore the subs for the conversations now since they are way too different.

I'd really like to get a more firm grasp on the combat itself, rather than skirting by the skin of my teeth.

For my companions' abilities - those are the L1 items, right? Can someone explain in more detail what they are - how they become available? Why does it seem to give me player control for the other guys when I select these?

Those are commands that you issue to the bros, you can purchase upgrades in the Ascension menu. You cant bully your way in combat, its free flowing and about positioning.

Think of night early game like Dragon's Dogma x10 in the danger element. Aka you don't want to go out at night early on. I'm lvl 13 and night still scares me shitless.

It doesn't help that the sound of those Iron/Red Giants coming out of the ground is really fucking creepy.

Aim for the spots with the dots on it. If nothing bites in 10 seconds cast again. Use the bait that attracts the most variety of fish. Forget what it's called but one of the lures you get by default

You can save anywhere as long as enemies aren't near / you aren't in a important mission I believe. And yes button mashing is best. Just guards are rewarded once you unlock the skills(press block right before an enemy strike).

Gotta do the last two at the same time. But yeah even if it's unfair I take issue with the abundance of day one patches. At least I'm under the impression that the game in disc is still fully functional (sans a couple of bug fixes).

Same. I guess we just like to get in there, plow, and get out. I THINK it has to do with varying up your combat, taking advantage of blindside, etc.

You won't be lost at all. Each game is pretty much it's own thing. I highly recommend watching the Kingsglaive movie prior to playing and the Brotherhood 5 episode Anime on YouTube though.

Disagree. This will bring in a lot of new fans and it is easy enough sell with the open world, car ride and monster design, especially.

I think the reviews have really helped it. People were so skeptical as recently as E3, and the delay certainly didn't reassure people.

I've hated every demo of this game I've played, the look of all the characters and the world design, and rolled my eyes at all the interviews, but goddamn if this isn't an immediately charming experience. There's no way I would've expected before I started to like the main cast's interactions this much. I'm only an hour or two in, so things can still go sour, but it's seriously better than I was expecting. I'm sure the main story will be a load of nonsense, but it's succeeded in convincing me that I really need a roadtrip RPG, so good on them for realizing that vision.
