First pic of Routh as Superman

Bill: An essential characteristic of the superhero mythology is, there's the superhero, and there's the alter ego. Batman is actually Bruce Wayne, Spider-Man is actually Peter Parker. When he wakes up in the morning, he's Peter Parker. He has to put on a costume to become Spider-Man. And it is in that characteristic that Superman stands alone. Superman did not become Superman, Superman was born Superman. When Superman wakes up in the morning, he's Superman. His alter ego is Clark Kent. His outfit with the big red "S", that's the blanket he was wrapped in as a baby when the Kents found him. Those are his clothes. What Kent wears, the glasses, the business suit, that's the costume. That's the costume Superman wears to blend in with us. Clark Kent is how Superman views us. And what are the characteristics of Clark Kent? He's weak, he's unsure of himself... he's a coward. Clark Kent is Superman's critique on the whole human race. Sort of like Beatrix Kiddo and Mrs. Tommy Plympton.

This is the superman I want:

Is that a Photoshopped image or an actual costume test for Cage back when Superman Lives was in development? Either way, hideous. Looks like a homemade Halloween costume made from felt.

And what's with this Singer hate? He gave us two solid X-Men movies, one of the best films of the 90s in The Usual Suspects and a good King adaptation in Apt Pupil. He's not a trashy director or anything.
Unfortunately, a lot of the Singer hate I see online is quite simply veiled homophobia. I'm not going to say I'm seeing it here, but in general, a lot of the hate I see online is of a homophobic nature.

It might be telling that the first word people seem to use when having a hateful knee-jerk reaction to this costume is "gay".

Singer is gay?

Kuroyume, you know nothing about Superman or Baseball...I'm sure you dont even like apple pie.

The higher spankies and wider neck really make a difference to making the suit look better imo. I think a lot of the flack is justified as the suit is just 'off'. As for Routh himself, well almost no one can play Supes, but you would think going with an unknown they would find that diamond in the rough.

WHOOPS TIME TO BOYCOTT

Nicolas Cage was astonishingly bad casting. What was Tim Burton thinking? Moot point, though.

I don't think so...as far as the look yes... But I kind of always thought of Superman as a pompus ass... I mean nothing can beat him really... so he is full of himself... Cage would have pulled that off perfectly!

But this new guy is a scrub.. looks...*meh*

Drop the U from his last name and give me Tim Roth as Superman!!!

The symbol probably can't be that big due to shot placing and such. Like Spider-Man, the production crew pays careful attention to how big the chest insignia is because it's distracting and messes up the composition if it's always cut off. That's probably why it's the size it is.

What's with this "Believe Again" bs? Stupid slogan and I hope it's not being based off of something actually in the script. Same with the Lois and Lex taglines.

Poor Lois, all of those forehead jokes in high school must have left their mark.

People are using the believe again slogan cause for the original movie with Reeves they used the slogan " You will believe a man can fly" or something like that.

This costume looks pretty cool. Singer should use this costume like what he did with the characters in the X-Men movies. Why is he bothering to use the traditional comic book version of the costume if parts of the storyline has situations that never occurred in the comic book...... with the exception of the elseworld universe(
like the rumored part about Lois marrying someone else and had chldren
).

Is it based on a comic?

Yes. Mark Millar did a short Elseworlds story where Superman crash landed in the Soviet Union instead of America, and Lex Luthor was married to Lois Lane. It's quite good. I like it a lot. It's called... Red Son.

Yuck, the first thing to hit me was Dr Dorian from Scrubs having one of his fantasies.

With the right director Welling would be fine.

Keyword: Right Director.

Seriously, we don't need a Superman movie...Spiderman was long overdue, The Hulk had to be done, Punisher would be different and interesting...Superman has been done and done well for a couple of them.
