Anyone else listen to Fatman on Batman? I really have no idea why Kevin Smith is dedicating 4 freaking episodes of the podcasts to Josh Trank interviews (regarding Fantastic 4). I'm simply not interested 0_0

It's a big get to have the director of a superhero movie during release week, particularly for a show that's about superheroes and superhero movies.

lol no he won't. but man i'm so excited for that. just did a rocky marathon recently and i'm so ready.

A sports film coming out during awards season by a critically acclaimed director? It's got a shot for some awards love, unless the stigma from all the Rocky sequels hold it back.

Didn't Rocky Balboa get a lot of favorable reviews? I think that film took a lot of people by surprise, since it was a much more somber affair than the films since the first one had been.

While Antman was good, this year has been weak for Superhero movies, this year belongs to the spies.

TV wise was good, likely it's the calm before the storm.

after that corny bum-fight in V, Balboa's ending was much needed. Almost got a bit teary when he walks out of the ring at the end of balboa. He definitely repaired the brand with that one.

I guess it's because Marvel brought out 2 S-Tier movies (Winter Soldier & Guardians) last year, on top of a solid showing from Fox via DoFP. Having this year with only B-Tier & A-Tier movies from Marvel (AoU & Ant-Man respectively) while Fox screwed the pooch is a disappointment in comparison.

2014 was a hard year to top, hence why I said calm before the storm. Because next year...holy shit.

I just wanna sneak in to this and see the trainwreck/snoozefest.

In the face of such bad buzz, it's hard not to feel a little sorry for the finished product, which is a harmless and endearingly cartoonish throwback to more simple comic book movie times.

ew, pass. The only reason I was interested was because of Chronicle.

So basically...

people dont give a fuck about fantastic 4? I dunno.

More like writers/ the studio don't know how to adapt it.

It's a difficult property to do justice to admittedly, as you can either go too goofy, or attempt grimdark. Neither suit the property- you need a careful blend. Family and fun; epic scale and high stakes. Studios usually only work in extremes.

Then there's the fact that Dr. Doom is treated like a one-dimensional villain from the 60s comics and you've got yourself another bomb.

I hope Fox abandons the property after this. I really don't want endless terrible Fantastic Four movies just so they can hang on to it.

Honestly, if Fox does hold on to it, I'd really kind of like to see it as like a family-friendly 3D movie. That really does seem like a good fit for it. Fantastic Four needs a venue where it can spread out and have fun with itself, and throw a few winks and nods at the audience.

He's gotta fill time somehow.

Everyone feared it was a rights holding movie, and that's what it plays like. It's all done in just over 90 mins. Consider yourself warned.

According to Wikipedia, the runtime is specifically 1hr46m. Either way, Slash 6 or 7 minutes of credits from that, I think we got the shortest superhero film in the past 7 years here.

Apparently enough of a mess that the final edit necessitated eliminating the sequence that the marketing campaign has been using as its money-shot for the last 5 months.

This is gonna be one of the most liked RLM episodes in recent memory, I bet.

lol I don't know why, and I'm sure this isn't the case, but sometimes you sound butthurt that they even have an audience.

This is too bad, though. I thought this could end up being an underrated hero flick along the lines of Ang Lee's HULK, but it seems it'll just be bland but just offensive enough to keep people talking about it.

Which is funny considering it's an origin movie also.

Still, not as fucking ridiculous as Fantastic Four: RotSS's 90 minute runtime back then.

Yup, a Silver Surfer and Galactus level problem solved in the span of a long work commute.

A 3rd terrible movie in this franchise in a row should be the death knell to F4 for a while... no?

Unless they plan on saving it by combining it with X-Men/Deadpool

FOURTH.

There was the Roger Corman film...

Sure, it was so bad they never even released it... but that doesn't mean it wasn't made.

I just made fun of (me) this myself the other day when I linked to one of their videos in the Resident Evil thread.

It's less them, and more the a specific (loud) segment of their audience.

Gotta feel for those F4 fans that have been waiting for a great F4 film.

I'm not even a Fantastic Four fan. I think the team is just a tad too campy and old-fashioned for me.

... But their comic license is tied to insanely great characters I DO love, like The Silver Surfer, Kang the Conquerer, Super-Skrull, and my favorite villain of all time, Dr. Doom.

FOUR movies, and we have NEVER seen THIS guy done justice:

Ugh. He's just such a GREAT VILLAIN.

Come to think of it, it's only 6 reviews, for all we know the next 100 could be fresh reviews. So far it's not looking good though.
