Haven't seen Antman yet, but comic book movies/giant blockbusters are very underwhelming this year compared to the juggernaut of 2014. DOFP, Winter Soldier, and Guardians are all top 5 comic book movie material.

Sounds like origin-itis. Its a problem with superhero movies as it is, but this persistent need to reboot every last fucking thing until it somehow hopefully breaks through to a massive success just makes things even worse. We've been drowning in origin stories, with most of them being the same origins again and again and again.

Just squeeze all of that origin set up crap into the opening titles and get down to business on moment one.

Don't worry, Ant-Man went well past expectations.

Would Disney even want to buy the rights back?

Of course they do. As others pointed out, the villains alone are worth it, not to mention side characters such as Silver Surfer.

I'm fairly sure that given the opportunity, Disney/Marvel would like ALL of their movie rights back. There's no reason for them not to. Especially if in the hands of other studios they run the risk of damaging the brands, which is exactly what's happening to Fantastic Four.

Michael B Jordan is also supposed to be teaming up with Destin Daniel Cretton for a drama next year. Cretton wrote/directed Short Term 12, one of the few indies even more critically acclaimed than the same year's Fruitvale Station.

We gon forget this movie ever happen, b.

career is easy street for him now tbh. Plus he seems to have a good working relationship with that Ryan Coogler guy

I'm surprised but this kid has the most promising career for a black actor since Denzel/Will Smith. He's lining them up

sounds spectacular:

"It's clobbering time" is something Ben Grimm's abusive brother used to say before he slapped him about. Comic book fans will love that.

Oh my god that's too edgy, even for me.

He's gonna wake up this Saturday going "...Was I on fire at some point?"
Exactly. He's actually a good actor whose career I don't want tarnished because of this movie. Same for the other actors as well as Josh Trank (BobbyRoberts mentioned that Josh Trank has another movie lined up for him to direct outside of the Star Wars movie Disney fired him from).

Y'know, looking back it's a damn shame that the FF is separate from the rest of the Marvel universe. Not because of some fanboy thing but because F4 and the concepts that sprang from it have been so tethered to the rest of the Marvel Universe even during the Lee/Kirby days. Galactus and Surfer and their connections to Marvel's cosmic universe, and Dr Doom is Marvel's PREMIERE villain without a doubt. Even small things like Johnny and Spidey's friendship, and The Thing fighting the Hulk.

Oh well, at least Creed is looking good.

That Creed trailer was one of the best I've seen in a long time. Very excited to see MBJ enter the ring.

I was going to say something about being worried about Kate Mara, but then I checked IMDB and realized she has a substantial part in The Martian so she'll be just fine.

Agreed. I was hoping that Fox could pull this off, but the negative reviews are just making me want Marvel Studios to take a stab at the F4 even more (this time in the MCU). That & I want a Nova movie that adapts Annihilation as a "trial by fire" origin story for Richard Rider.

Anyone else listen to Fatman on Batman? I really have no idea why Kevin Smith is dedicating 4 freaking episodes of the podcasts to Josh Trank interviews (regarding Fantastic 4). I'm simply not interested 0_0

Yeah why would he give the director of the new fantastic four movie 4 episodes?

They need to stop superhero origin movies for series that have already had one before.

There was no reason they had to start off this reboot with another origin story. It just weighs everything down.

Honestly, they should just do what Incredible Hulk did as far as reboots go. Use the opening credits to get the origin out of the way. That's how Marvel did it with Hulk, & that's how they're looking to get Spidey's origin out of the way (though Marvel could just ignore Spidey's origin outright beyond a reference or two).

Overall, I don't think Fantastic Four is the type of film that could drastically enhance or hinder any of the participants career based on everything we have seen.

I'm honestly disappointed; this film has got a bad rap throughout it's entire production. It would've been nice if it was good and the haters were proved wrong.

Ah well. It's a year until Ghostbusters.

He was great in Whiplash. Hopefully that will land him better roles and the stench of FF will roll off him.

He's been in a couple of crappy movies already like the Divergent series and 21 and Over yet kept getting good roles. He should be fine.

im bummed considering he first started quotin David Cronenberg and about making this kind of a horror-lite film of teenagers having their bodies change and being freaked out / having to deal with it

then the trailers looked more and more like a regular superhero flick

Pretty much how I feel

This guy was an inch away from a Star Wars movie...then all those crazy rumors of him doing come on set popped up haha.
