Folks that own both a PS4 and X1, are you able to justify both purchases thus far?

The PS4 is my main gaming machine at the moment I mostly play My future wishlist is packed:

Sentinels: Aegis Rim
Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance
Exist Archive: The Other Side of the Sky
Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy XV
Gravity Rush
Gravity Rush 2
Horizon: Zero Dawn
Kingdom Hearts HD II.8 Final Chapter Prologue
Kingdom Hearts III
The Last Guardian
Ni-Oh
NieR 2
Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir
Persona 5
Ratchet & Clank
Rime
Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness
Uncharted 4: A Thief's End
Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection

I've got both but future releases like these are why I prefer PS4. I feel like it has a more diverse library of games overall and it's better for multiplats this gen. I'm also more tied into PSN with Plus, digital purchases and trophies. I got the Ps4 at launch and I've used it almost every day since.

However, I still love the Xbox One, I got the new Lunar White controller the other day and its awesome plus the new dash looks like it's going to be great and BC is coming up so I can hopefully play Red Dead again this year and a few other titles. I've also got the TV tuner so I can finally watch live TV on my PC monitor.

So, both are easily justifiable, paying £250 or £300 for a console I'm going to use regularly for the next five+ years is great value.

I have both an Xbox One and a PlayStation 4. I also have a PC but I only use that for Left 4 Dead 2. I bought the PlayStation 4 solely for Until Dawn. Everything else is mostly Microsoft exclusive that I'm playing so even if it isn't I tend to buy it for Xbox One. Can't think of any game I want coming out exclusively for PlayStation that I'll get besides Uncharted 4 next year. Also, the interface is fucking lame. Get that changed. I can for sure justify the Xbox One purchase because it almost gets daily use. The PlayStation hasn't for days since I beat the free The Last of Us code I got with it. I probably shouldn't have spent 350 dollars on a new console for one game but oh well.

Ive had both since launch and personally the xbone with first party titles trumps sony in the same category. I find myself mostly playing 3rd party titles on the ps4 as the power whore in me will lean me towards that.
If I could only have one I'd def have the xbone.
If I was Phil Spencer I would be thinking wtf does xbox have to do to make it a more level playing field with Sony cause the games are there and this fall again there is a strong lineup. For me Sony is still riding off the PlayStation brand being the man of the hour in terms of popularity amongst gamers and joe public. I wouldn't be surprised if the ps4 sells more than xbox this Christmas and looking at the lineup how the fuck is that possible!?

I probAbly should have waited on the ps4 for uncharted 4, I am not sure there is enough on either console to justify buying it just for the exclusives, but they will get there.

Nope. However I'm hoping that changes with Halo 5, ReCore, Cuphead, Scalebound, and Crackdown 3.

I got into Halo just about a year ago so the MCC justifies the purchase. Scalebound and ReCore also look good. It certainly helped that I only paid €250 for the machine, BC will also help. The PS4 is my main gaming machine at the moment I mostly play My future wishlist is packed:

Hardware wise I have no complains. Both controllers are better than last gen, both OSes are fast enough and soon the XB1 will even look pleasing.

Your list.

I have both. If I hadn't bought CoD: Advanced Warfare or Until Dawn for the system, I don't know what I'd be playing on PS4.

My Xbone gets all my time now, for the controller, cheevos, and for how it enhances my home theater.

I've had a PS4 since launch and recently got an X1. I'll probably get most games for PS4 and use the X1 for exclusives. The only 2 games I have for X1 is Rare Replay and Halo MCC. I collect consoles and games so I'll always get a console I don't have at some point.

Have an Xbox One, Wii U, PS4, Gaming PC, Vita TV, Vita 2000, and new 3DS XL.

Use ps4 the most by far, followed by PC, then Xbox one, then Wii U and vita TV.

The handhelds really only get used on business trips so like twice a month.

It's hard to justify all of them but I really like the exclusives they all bring so I guess that's justification enough for me.

Nope. I bought an Xbox One thinking it would be my media box and for potential exclusives. Turns out, the PS3 is still the best Blu-ray and media streaming box.

Other than Ryse and a bit of Killer Instinct when they came out, the system doesn't get touched. There are hardly any exclusives and the multiplats are better on the PS4 and PC. There just isn't a compelling reason to own both systems and when you throw PC and Wii U into the mix, there's even less of a reason. The consoles are too similar.

No. I have both, and a gaming PC, and I have yet to play a single game on the Xbone. There's just... nothing I want. Bought it in anticipation of Scalebound, but I'd hoped there'd be a little more to play on the side. Meanwhile, I've had quite a few games to play on the PS4 -- mostly JP-developed stuff.

Yup.

I mostly play XB1 with my friends for online games and such but the PS4 has had Killzone, Infamous, The Order, Rocket League and some other stuff that has been worth it.

This is exactly me plus WiiU being great with it's many exclusives. The recent Super Mario Maker is really damn good, it's head to head with MGS5 for my GOTY so far.

Rare Replay, Forza Horizon 2, and Forza Motorsport 6 on XBO have made it my most-played console at the moment.

I'm getting into Driveclub on PS4 at the moment with MGS5 in the wings and the Nathan Drake Collection next week. DI 3.0 and Lego Dimensions, too.

UC4 (PS4) and the next Tomb Raider (XBO) next month.

My Wii U, which was my most played console last year, has been sitting around collecting dust, even though I have a lot of games I still need to play, including TW101 and Hyrule Warriors.

I sincerely wish I had a reason to fire up my Xbox One at all outside of checking in on the games with gold offer every now and then... I use my Wii U weekly and my PS4 daily.

I have a X1, PS4, and WiiU

I shouldn't have bought any of them, they haven't been worth it in the slightest. At least finally playing with some friends on PS4. This gen just hasn't been very kind to exclusives must plays for my tastes.

Until the release of Forza 6 last month I was still playing Forza 5 from launch. I got my money's worth right there. Along with FIFA, Horizon 2, AC: Unity (£9 digital code post patches), Far Cry 4, EA Access - it's got lots of use. But even if I just played Forza games it has been worth it. EA Access really makes XB1 a bargain, and there are plenty of inexpensive digital codes and discounted points available.

I also got a PS4 at launch and really haven't used it as much. I don't bother keeping it on standby thanks to the use it gets. I had money for one console at launch and chose the XB1 due to Forza but my wife bought the PS4 for my birthday which was around that time. Kept the preorder because I was looking forward to Driveclub - but I found the game very disappointing. In theory I could probably sell the console and not miss much, but I'm sure once Gran Turismo and perhaps Uncharted 4 roll around it'll get more use.

This is nuts to me. What are you playing on the PS4 every day?

Gave Ryse a shot on XB1, found it to be terrible. Tried Sunset Overdrive, did not enjoy it. Everything else I'm either not interested in or is also on other platforms (D4 was a pull first but the kinect controls were terrible and my gamepad kept disconnecting so it was essentially unplayable). Still holding out hope for Scalebound, but overall I did not have a good time with the XB1.

With PS4, I love Bloodborne, played TLOUR MP and grounded, Infamous was ok, and cross buy/save/play with Vita is awesome for indies on the go. PS+ has been great for getting indies.

I've pretty much bought every exclusive on both console and the answer is yes.

I play my PS4 everyday, all my friends have one so I often play with them.

As for my Xbox One it gets used less but with EA Access, awesome exclusives and its awesome controller I'm glad I have one too.

I'll say this though, I'm far happier with both consoles than I was with both the PS3 and 360 2/3 years into last-gen because the PS3 wasn't justified at all in my eyes.

I don't really feel the need to justify my purchase but yes I use my PS4 and Xbox One almost daily. Wether it's to game on it or use Netflix/Crunchyroll

This is nuts to me. What are you playing on the PS4 every day?
Seeing as how you just told the other poster that that is a pretty odd question, I'm going to assume that you weren't being serious...

But Metal Gear. A lot of Metal Gear :3

Xbox one? Yeah absolutely. I have had a lot of quality games that differentiate from the competition.

PS4? Not as much. Its a dust collector now but with games like Uncharted an Horizon Zero Dawn that will likely change real soon. I certainly will regret getting one so soon if it gets a substantial price cut. I should've waited. Not a great system at all for my tastes quite yet.

About to selling my XOne. Thing is, I'm not hooked by the announced exclusives nor do I REALLY like the existing one. My real deal was Rare Replay. Playing those old gems on a modern console is a freaking joy. Apart from that... Forza 5 was rubbish for my standards. That for me wasn't really motorsports nor is Forza 6. So there is little reason left to have a +300 EUR worth console collecting dust on my shelf.

As for the PS4 that is frequently used I will keep it. Great console with minor flaws. But exclusives and multiplattform titles meet my taste.

Plus the UI of the XOne is just horrible. Everything is convoluted, canceling Live Gold a pain in the ass and some features like taking screenshots/recording footage overly complicated compared to PS4. To mention a few things.

tldr: Not being able to justify my XOne purchase. And probably aren't going to.

No, I probably shouldn't have bought an X1. I played a couple games, was disappointed in the exclusives I tried, and it's been unplugged for about 6 months. I play everything on the PS4; I just prefer that console. Most of the X1 exclusives don't appeal to me. I wanted an X1 for TR, but now I'm passing on that because of Fallout 4. I've thought about trading it in, but it would be a waste, only get $200 or so, if that, so I'll hold on to it, maybe for QB or something else down the road.

I own both (just recently got xbone) but it was specifically to play Rockband 4 and Halo 5 this month. If I didn't want those games on that platform then I wouldn't have bought it and would be completely content with just having a PS4. I would say let the games decide for you. I ended up buying the Xbone a month early (got the TV bundle at Best Buy in Aug) and I have barely played games on it since I got it. October that will change, but like I said it is only worth it if you are going to play games on both.

And to directly answer your question, no my purchase as of today is not justified in regards to the Xbone, I have only used it sparingly for gaming with heavy streaming (While I play PS4 on my other TV). But this month I will likely be singing a different tune. Also just a side note, the Xbone UI and shoulder bumpers are awful. I am really looking forward to the update of the UI next month and hoping that as I break in my controller the bumpers will get better.

Haha, yea. I figured that the proximity of it to my previous post made it safe to leave out an "/s" or equivalent.

Absolutely. Particularly because my Xbone is set up in the living room connected to the cable box and the little lady loves the Kinect voice command stuff for TV.

Also, you know MS exclusives.

I could say the same about the PS4 ?

There are games on Xbox One you know.

How is using a console daily in any way difficult for you to fathom?.. Is it simply because it's not the PS4? It's not like the XB1 is lacking games to play...

I plan on buying the Xbox One when the price drops, I really want it for Sunset Overdrive, Rare Replay, and D4 (maybe Ori), but those games and many of the others on the console don't seem to lead to daily play, and I was surprised there was nothing at all on the PS4 for the user I quoted.

Did you ask the same question to people saying they mainly play their PS4? I find it interesting that you asked this of someone that says they mainly play the Xbox One. You do realize the Xbox One has as a lot of games and others things to do on it as well right?

Could really have done without the PS4 purchase to be honest, but I didn't know that I wouldn't enjoy Driveclub or Bloodborne very much :( Assumed I'd be properly into both, but it hasn't happened and now the PS4 just sits there waiting for something.

Well, there's quite a few games I can imagine leading to daily (or near daily) play. Mostly multiplayer focused stuff like Halo, Titanfall, Forza (I've got over 150 hours in FM5 pretty much entirely offline for example). This doesn't even take into account that a preference for specific exclusives may cause someone to buy multiplats for that console as well, in order to play them with the same people, or just for convenience. I have Destiny on XB1 rather than on my PS4, so his lack of PS4 use may actually be primarily due to a lack of interest in its exclusives, which is also causing him to not use it for multiplats also. He didn't actually claim there to be nothing at all on PS4 for him, just not enough for him to feel it's been worth the purchase so far.

I'm PS4 all day at this point for third party titles with a healthy helping of WiiU, sprinkled with a little bit of XBone exclusives from time to time (Rare Replay, Ori, Forza).

I cannot justify the need for both and at this point would NOT make the recommendation to anyone to purchase both. To me, there isn't enough exclusive content worth owning both plats.

Since I had the console (less than a year), I played those games :
Sunset Overdrive
Crimson Dragon
Ori
Dark Souls II
Dead or Alive 5
Halo MCC
Tomb Raider

But I do play other consoles too. Still the Xbox is the one I played the most this year.

I don't like Sony's exclusives personally. I don't like all MS exclusives either however, but there are a few that I like. It really depends on the person's preferences.

Having both consoles, I can say that they are a lot alike anyway. The only real thing that differentiates them for me is the exclusive games.

Not really. The XB1 gets very little play time from me.

I play most of my stuff on PC/PS4 so the XB1 is just an exclusive box. After Sunset last year, I had nothing to use the console for up until Forza. And then after Halo, it'll be a considerable wait until my next game again.

PS4 I've gotten a few exclusives out of. Bloodborne and Destiny make up most of my playtime on it.

Xbox One will be worth it once Halo 5 is out, however I haven't really played it that much yet.

So yeah I have a good PC so both consoles only serve the purpose of exclusives. Not exactly the most rational purposes, but hey I really don't want to miss certain games.

Yes
My son plays the ps4 (fifa) and I play witcher 3 on xbone. I know, the ps4 version of witcher 3 has better resolution but I try not to fokus on that (i really dont think I can se the diffrence to be honest).
Anyways, I need 2 consoles. Gamewise well kind of. Planning to buy gears and natan drake Collection so its good to have all (3 actually) consoles but i actually think that i could be satisfied with my 360 couse my backlogg is enormous :)

My PS4 has been pretty busy this year with Bloodborne & Rocket League (PC is out of commission). My Xbox was the console that I questioned on purchasing until recently with the release of Forza 6.
