Folks that own both a PS4 and X1, are you able to justify both purchases thus far?

Xbox gathering dust though it does have a better media player than my PS4. I purchased it as insurance so it is not a regret just yet.

Well, there's quite a few games I can imagine leading to daily (or near daily) play. Mostly multiplayer focused stuff like Halo, Titanfall, Forza (I've got over 150 hours in FM5 pretty much entirely offline for example). This doesn't even take into account that a preference for specific exclusives may cause someone to buy multiplats for that console as well, in order to play them with the same people, or just for convenience. I have Destiny on XB1 rather than on my PS4, so his lack of PS4 use may actually be primarily due to a lack of interest in its exclusives, which is also causing him to not use it for multiplats also. He didn't actually claim there to be nothing at all on PS4 for him, just not enough for him to feel it's been worth the purchase so far.

I see. The MP was my guess, but I keep hearing how Titanfall has been abandoned (may be GB hyperbole) and I thought MCC wasn't still a good experience online. It's too bad because I was going to buy the One last Christmas until that turned out the way it did. Thanks for the response. Also that's nuts that you ahve over 150 hours in Forza. I was too bad at Forza 3 to play that much.

Did you ask the same question to people saying they mainly play their PS4? I find it interesting that you asked this of someone that says they mainly play the Xbox One. You do realize the Xbox One has as a lot of games and others things to do on it as well right?

I don't ask them because I have a PS4 and I am more familiar with the catalog. I play Rocket League every day, which is something not yet on Xbox.

Maybe it came off as pure console fanboyism to you, but I really wanted to know what games that user likes so much on the One that gets him to play daily.

Titanfall is a much, much smaller deal than most would have expected it to be pre-release, but it has plenty of players still, it's population is still better than the majority of online games outside of CoD and BF. MCC mostly works these days as well.

As for FM5... well, I completed every event in it, lol. Racers are the sorts of games you can basically play forever. I still play Daytona USA every now an then almost 20 years later. My 150 hours isn't even really a lot compared to how much time you'll find many players in the OT (and Driveclub's OT) spending on the games. They have all the replay value of an online FPS, but you don't even really require any other players... just their (or your own) ghosts.

I'm definitely happy to have both. I get to play Bloodborne, TLOU:R, Until Dawn, KI, Halo and Gears. If you are into the exclusives on both platforms, it's an easy choice if you have the money.

I pretty much just use my X1 for Kinect games, Xbox Fitness, Forza, RR, and Sunset Overdrive every once in a while

PS4 for all multiplats and exclusive Japanese games. It definitely works out for me.

I play my PS4 everyday. I recently packed my Xbox One away because I basically only used it for Netflix. I had a good chunk of games on it, but I finished them all and had no interest in the other Xbox exclusives.

Xbox gets used daily so it was worth the purchase.

Ps4 has been a dust magnet since I bought it at launch :/ i just haven't had a reason to turn it on. Some good games but I dunno.

Yes and no. I have absolutely adored a total of four games on the Xbone, two of which were exclusive. Apart from that it gathers dust. I probably should of stuck with my Wii U, PS3, and PC combo as those are still my most played platforms, but I don't regret the PS4 or the Xbone as I do still enjoy my options. I also think the future looks bright for both of them, so it's nice to be prepared. That and their controllers work on PC so.....awesome? Awesome.

Haven't used my PS4 in a hell of a long time. Xbox is only used for MCC, and soon to be Halo 5. I think i'll be satisfied over the course of the generation, but I haven't found one game that I've been totally in love with for either system yet. Maybe I'm getting old.

I guess only you can answer that OP, and it sounds like there's not enough exclusives for you.

I will say this; it doesn't pay to subscribe to both Plus and Gold. Pick one.

Could really have done without the PS4 purchase to be honest, but I didn't know that I wouldn't enjoy Driveclub or Bloodborne very much :( Assumed I'd be properly into both, but it hasn't happened and now the PS4 just sits there waiting for something.

Why didn't you get in to Bloodborne Woff? I thought you liked Dark Souls.

Dude you don't have both consoles why are you even commenting in the thread?

No I use them for exclusives and use my pc for most everything else. Had a great time on both of them.

Yeah, PS4 is my main platform and the Xbone is for the exclusives. Sunset Overdrive alone makes it worh it, and the future exclusives are exciting too.

I just can't not own all platforms. And they all satisfy.

The gamer in me wants to own all the current gen consoles as it is something that I have always done. I would love to get an X1 but the PS4 has been enough for me so far as I barely even have enough time to play it.

My PS4, absolutely yes. Xbox One, not so much. I should have waiting for Halo 5 to get one honestly. I have enjoyed Titanfall, Sunset and Rare Replay, but that is about it. It's a good system don't get me wrong, but all my friends prefer PS4 and so do I.

Yup. The exclusives on both of them have made it worth it to me. And 2016 looks like it'll justify even more.

Xbone is my least used console ever. I played maybe half of AC Unity because it came with the console.

Most of my gaming is done on PS4. Portables come next, then the Wii U and finally PC.

I'm satisfied with both. 90% of my time is on the PS4 thus far. That will probably change when some more XOne exclusives that interest me (Halo 5 / Quantum Break / Gears 4) release.

I'm happy with both. I have a healthy balance of friends on both consoles, I use the PS4 for most multiplat games and Xbox One for TV stuff, Kinect stuff (which are great by the way for family and kids) and exclusives. I can't shake my Halo and Gears addiction.

I'm exactly like OP. I have a PS4 and Wii U. Almost bought the One, then reconsidered. Eventually I will buy the Xbox One, Just not sure when yet.

Why would you buy an xbox one when you don't feel as though there's anything on the console that anyone would play on a daily basis?

Hell no. I bought my PS4 last Black Friday, but really haven't used it much. Honestly I know it's more powerful than the Xbox, but I prefer using my Xbox. I can use my PC for third party non-Batman games so it comes down to exclusives, which we all know are pretty much worthless on Sony's system.

I had a PS4 for exclusives as opposed to everyone who uses the X1 for exclusives only, as i have more friends on XLive. I got a good offer for my PS4, who was sadly collecting dust in a corner for a while. Right now i don't see a reason to jump back in, but i'm sure i'll grab another one in the future.

Edit: Forgot about my WiiU, which i haven't used in a while due to my gamepad's touchscreen getting damaged. They charge $100 for warranty.

I definitely do and oddly enough as a long time Sony fan, I find myself playing my X1 a LOT more these days. The controller is just better.

That will change when SF V drops though.

Why didn't you get in to Bloodborne Woff? I thought you liked Dark Souls.
Loved Dark Souls immensely and got all the achievements twice for some insane reason.

As for Bloodborne, I'm not able to see what I'm doing wrong - the impression I get from this game is that I should just guhh et better at uhh well y'know all of it I guees? I can't even just go off and upgrade the shit out of my gear.

Another thing that I haaaatttteeee is spending resources for using fundamental mechanics: healing and parrying. Unless I'm playing the game wrong. Also having to teleport back to that shed to do anything is annoying as fuck.

I might be missing something, but Bloodborne is trying its best to make me suffer without reward.

Xbox one is the worst system I've bought since n64. Killer instinct is incredible and dead rising 3/FH2 were really good but beyond that it's just a video streamer. I hate the UI, Kinect sucks dick, everything is an app and I'm not a huge fan of the controller. I much prefer ps4 in almost every way and I paid $100 less for it.

I still have hope foe xbone though. KI will continue and dragonscale looks great. But to this point in time, xbone wasn't needed :(

Maybe it came off as pure console fanboyism to you, but I really wanted to know what games that user likes so much on the One that gets him to play daily.

Even if Titanfall and MCC were completely abandoned or broken it's not like those are the only two multiplayer games on the system. And yes, a question of incredulity at someone saying they play more xbox one than ps4 comes across as pure console fanboyism from someone ignorant enough to be ignored.

PS4's acquisition has been justified since launch.

As for the X1, I got it for 30% less due to an Amazon.ca bug last year but other than that, I don't play it as much as I'd like as none of my friends except one has a X1 and since the time available for gaming is limited, I play it on PS4

My xbone mostly collects dust while I play my PS4 that said Sunset Overdrive is my favorite game of the generation so far so I don't regret having the xbone. I'll probably play forza 6 with a friend and I'm also looking forward to crackdown 3 as well. So it gets some use but for all multi-platform games and a handful of exclusives it's all PS4 for me.

That's surprising that you found Bloodborne more difficult, it was the opposite for me due to the regen health system and faster movement in Bloodborne. I generally got by without parrying apart from on bosses as the sidestep made it easy enough to take enemies down.

Yeah, it's the same as Dark Souls 2/ Demons in that you always have to warp back to upgrade etc. I guess if you love the original Souls then having health and parrying tied to consumables can be annoying but I always found the game gave you quite a lot of Vials and Bullets.

Well I definitely play the PS4 more though playing older systems still takes up a lot of my time. XB1 gave me near 100 hours of Sunset Overdrive (really love this game) though.

Looking towards the future I don't think there is much I really want for XB1 (a few games I've got my eye on) and the PS4 has been stronger for multiplatform games this gen. Loaned the XB1 to my sister so she could play Destiny and MGSV, only miss it as my twitch watching box.

Twitch is coming to PS4 soon though :)

EDIT: Wii U note: Lots a great games, I own a bunch of them, yet I haven't actually finished many (maybe any) of them. Weird. I got really far into Tropical Freeze getting gold medals as I went but for some reason dropped it :(

Bonus points if you have a gaming PC too.

I own a PS4 and Wii U. The latter is for those sweet Nintendo games, and the former is my go-to for third party fare for this generation, along with Sony exclusives.

Anyway, a close buddy of mine offered to sell me his Xbox One for the relatively dirt cheap price of 200 bucks. I was initially ready to jump at the deal but after mulling it over some more, I found it very tough to justify the purchase, low price and all. I already have the PlayStation for third parties, and the Xbox just didn't offer enough exclusives to make it worthwhile. I'm positive I would've felt the same way if I had an Xbox One and someone offered to sell me their PS4. I'm certainly still getting one, but after titles like Scalebound and Quantum Break and such are in the wild.

Everyone has a different way, and some don't even care, but when I buy a new platform, I check to see if there's at least six games out right now that I want for it. Six is my magic number. It's an imperfect method but it has worked for me.

So with these two platforms having such a massive overlap in terms of software, I ask owners of both systems - have they been worth it thus far?

Nope, my ps4 collects dust. Ive barely used it in the last year. My Xbox is used daily.. Not nessisarily from gaming as I do most of mine on the pc but for the media features (I cut my cable and use my Xbox as a TV tuner/dvr and stream box.

If I had to do it again I wouldn't have gotten the ps4 at launch, I'd still get it but only after Uncharted 4 or something like that came along. The Xbox I wouldn't have gotten at launch either. I'm happy with my purchase of it a year or so after launch.

The money saved would have been better off spent on a gsync monitor for me pc.....

i turned my ps4 on just to play the uncharted demo for like 15 min before that the last time i turned it on was to play MKX.

my xbox i play every now and again because of Gears, Halo, and the Withcer 3 but not enough to say my purchase was justified...

with all the bundles and price drops/sales i feel like i wouldve been better of waiting.

No, I regret buying an X1. It's a great system, but I just don't have enough time to play it.

I got it so I didn't miss any exclusives, but having another hunk of plastic under my TV really wasn't worth it to play Tomb Raider early and Quantum Break.

Sunset Overdrive was awesome, Ori was awesome, but those are the only two games I've beaten on it after owning the system for half a year. I bought Forza 6 the day it came out (it was one of the main reasons I bought the system) but haven't even opened it because I've been playing MGS and Destiny. And I was really looking forward to Tomb Raider, but now I feel almost obligated to get it over Fallout since it justifies me owning the X1, even though I'm more excited for Fallout.

This is definitely the last time I'll own more than one console. I'm slowly coming to terms with the fact that even though I can afford to buy whatever gaming stuff I want I just don't have the same amount of time to play as I did in high school and early college.

I own a Xbox One and Wii U, both of which I am content with, but also somewhat disappointed by. My golden number is usually 10 games for a platform which is about 2-3 years into that console's lifecycle, but I was lucky and fortunate enough to receive both as gifts for my birthday, which is why I enjoy them so much (sentimental value can make every console seem better than it is). I wouldn't sell either ever since they are gifts, but I wouldn't recommend others to purchase them with their own money either. I only own 3 games for Xbone and 8 for Wii U, both of which don't meet my quota.

I think you did the right thing in not purchasing a Xbox One, even for 200. Sure, you can play Halo 5, Gears of War 4 or the new Tomb Raider, but... Is that really worth it? I just wouldn't do it on principle alone. I also want to play BloodBorne, Until Dawn, Soma and Street Fighter V, but it just feels like I be doing the wrong thing if I went out and purchased a console for those four games.

For the bonus points... I also own a gaming PC, and I just can't get myself to use it to play anything but GoG games and exclusives... Even though games run worse on Xbox One, I just tend to beat games on console more frequently than a digital game on Steam, so I am kind of done being a 'PC gamer' and will probably play most things on console in the future.

Bought the PS4 Last of Us bundle strictly to play Bloodborne, which was great but i never use it anymore. Last of Us was a slog, no idea how everyone shat their pants over it. I DO enjoy the PS4 but mainly play xbox for online and multiplayer stuff.

Long story shot, i piss money away all the time anyway, so i dont regret my purchase.

I bought the XB1 and PS4 at launch, I also bought a gaming PC about 6 months ago.

My PS4 gets much more of a workout than my XB1. With XB1 it's an 'exclusives only' console, whereas PS4 is my goto for multiplats and exclusives.

I'm enjoying Forza 6 on the XB1 at the moment, great game. I've also played:

Ryse
Forza 5
Forza Horizon 2
Halo: MCC
Titanfall
Some X360 Backwards Compatible games
and a few Indie games

I did buy BF4 at launch with the console, and later GTA 5 but really their the only two multiplats I've played on it.

With PS4, I've played:

GTA 5
Far Cry 4
Infamous (SS & FL)
TLOU: Remastered
Killzone: Shadow Fall
Knack
Need for Speed Rivals
Destiny
COD: Ghosts
COD: AW
Wolfenstein: TNO
Ass Creed: BF
DriveClub
WatchDogs
Sleeping Dogs: Remastered
Farming Simulator 2015 (lol)
and various demos and indie games.

My PC is for when I want 60fps, and cheap recent games. I have GTA 5 on this as well and it's BEAUTIFUL at 60fps. The money I have spent on PC games is just a fraction of what I have spent on the consoles. It's fun to bargain shop and play games I normally wouldn't consider getting on a console, or simply aren't available on them.

:)
