Forza 5 Showroom | New cars and details for Forza 5, ongoing reveals

Hard to tell but it looks unfinished.

Besides the car interior I can't see anything clearly, are the drivers hands bare?

Probably reflections, I'm going cross eyed trying to make things out.

You would think that of all places to show Bathurst, the Sydney Expo would be the ideal place. A little strange it has to be said.

Unless they are keeping it under wraps for next week's big race?

Pretty sure the first place it's going to be available for public play is at the actual Bathurst 1000.

holy shit, you killed this. i completely bought the entire thing then re-read it just to figure it out.

it was a very detailed and believable dream, I swear that's exactly what I saw, down to the rather odd number of available cars.

At first I just wanted to tell you about my dream and write here in case parts of it turn out to be accurate :)

Pretty clear that because this game is coming in hot, they aren't burning man-hours on press builds and trailers. I am sure it is all hands on deck in QA and bug smashing until a near final build right before gold, and they are going to pull trailers and shots from that.

Which, frankly I am fine with. I am not a guy who needs constant reminders of the progress of something that is still under construction. When it is done, show us, until then heads down.

Video games have to be the only industry where fans DEMAND to see what you are working on before it is done, and lack of 100% transparency is considered betrayal to you fans. Just weird behavior all over this forum.

When these games are coming in at £50+ a time it's understandable people want to know exactly what we are getting.

Bought far too many shitty games.

and look what happens when they do decide to release footage of something before its done while it has bugs - the alps. people tear it to shreds.

and I am sure you can make that assessment when it is actually a....i dont know...completed product. I am sure there will be plenty of places to get a thought or two on the quality before you part with your hard earned money.

my point is that it is just a strange thing to beg and beg and plead for stuff now, instead of assessing the finished product when it is available to actually buy. in 6 weeks or so.

Unfortunately that happens with every game. I don't get that mentality but to each their own

I got to play it today at the Xbox One Truck in Toronto.

The new controller, well, mainly the the new triggers are awesome. Being able to feel that response when the tires are slipping as you accelerate too hard, or being able to feel the ABS brakes grabbing when you brake too much is fully awesome.

The demo they have on the trucks is for Laguna Seca.
You have 5 options for the cars - The Audi R18, Ferrari F12, Fiesta ST (might be the Focus actually), Mclaren MP4-12C and the Mercedes Benz 300 Gullwing.

I did 2 races, one with the ST and one with the Mclaren. Assists set to Hard.

Well, it looked great - and it was still Forza. I'm not sure what they could do to make it different though - I'm worried I might get burned out on it.

One major thing which I'm sure we've already noticed, but I noticed first hand - Reflections on the god damn windscreens.

Good to hear those are present and correct - somebody was speculating recently that they'd been removed. It's a fantastic effect, really subtle but really helps seat you in the car. It was one of the stand-out things that impressed me about Shift.

Did you notice if the windscreen got dirty as the race progressed?

that was definitely shown off on laguna seca, probably the same build.

Lmao that's me on the right..

Yeah the game looked great in motion, not as many jaggies as I thought there would be. Triggers were awesome as expected. Also, it wasn't the Mclaren MP4-12C, it was the P1.

game is looking really good. has a New York circuit been confirmed? just bought Forza 4 not three days ago and couldnt believe this was missing. took an admittedly long break away from the mainline series after FM2 - it was my favorite track then.

It's almost 7pm in Sydney. Sal is either:
  • still grilling Mechberg
  • too annoyed by what he saw to talk about it
  • hyperventilating into a paper bag
  • wanking himself to death
Come on, Sal! Tell tell tell tell!

Back home now.
Quick impressions:

First off, I think Helios secretly warned Brian about my coming because Brian was nowhere to be seen. I had the girls and drinks ready too. Oh well, sorry fellas..

Anyway, Forza 5.
I'm not a graphics guy so don't expect me to get into technical shit. However, IMO, FM5 looks bleeding fantastic man!
I mean, I played FM5 first before anything else, then went to GT6 straight after. Man o man, GT6 looks so freaking outdated in comparison it's not funny. I swear, FM5 Laguna Seca might look like a higher res FM4 version at first but it just isn't. The effects, the resolution, the crowds, birds, helicopters, dust, windshield reflections, paint,lighting,textures..etc of FM5 makes FM4 look like shit, seriously.
I really love the paint effects. It needs to be seen in person to be appreciated.
The sun effects really add to the overall look and isn't as blinding as I thought it would be. I actually enjoy it.
There are some jaggies present though.

Sound. Finally, I got to hear FM5 with some headphones and it sounded amazing!
The reverb has been drastically enhanced. Screaming down pit straight was an experience as noise bounced off everything. Orgasmic!
The exhaust notes are fucking A1. The overall vehicle effects seem somewhat pegged back a little which is a good thing. More in line with reality.
Cockpit filters have also been enhanced. Again, much more in line with reality.
Driveline flex adds so much to the gear changes now. The oscillation between engine and box now sounds more natural. Turbo spool is also so much better.
There are some "whooshing" effects as you pass objects. It sounds great without being overbearing.
Overall, the sound, at least of what I've heard, is a massive improvement over FM4. Everything sounds so clear, uncompressed. Man o man, I can't wait to hear more especially the modified vehicles.

Now, there were no wheels available, only the gamepad which is not how I normally play. Having said that, holy shit at the gamepad!
I know this sounds strange but the Xbox One controller feels like a wheel in your hands. The triggers are amazing. The pad just feels so precise in everything. Hats off to MS!
Anyway, I tried all cars in the game with all assists off and simulation handling.
I have to say, the handling and overall feel is so fucking good!
The cars all feel so weighty compared to FM4. It actually feels like I'm controlling a car and not a toy. Using a controller in FM4 felt so easy. FM5 feels completely different. It's harder, much harder in expert settings. You really have to be on your toes when driving a high powered rear wheel vehicle. Tank slappers fucking galore!
I love that grip loss doesn't mean I'm on ice all of a sudden. In FM5, grip comes and goes as you slide around a corner. The tyres and wheels fight hard.. You can feel them bouncing and vibrating like crazy. That is one big difference I've noticed between the two games. It feels amazing..
I also love that tyre flex is so pronounced as the limits of grip are reached. It looks incredible actually.
The cars behave as you would expect. Actually, the phenomenons of understeer and oversteer are accentuated even further in FM5 as opposed to FM4. It feels so much more focused and direct in comparison.
Again, you need to be very precise with your input. You must brake earlier. You must feather the throttle out of corners. You can't drive like you did in FM4, that's all i'm saying.
I can go on and on about how the physics feel but I'm on my way out to watch RUSH.

I wish I could have played it with a wheel to garner a bit more feedback on the physics though. There's only so much you can feel with a controller even though the controller with Forza is an experience in and of itself.
Overall, I was very impressed with the game. More than I thought I would. It feels so different to previous games whilst still being familiar. It certainly has an air of next gen about it. I don't think I can go back to anything current gen after my time with the game(3hrs).
I'm hyped again....

Sorry for lack of photos or videos. Wife found pics of babes in camera and deleted everything. I'm on the counch for a week..

Thanks for all those impressions saladine1. Am even more excited to play the game now.

Bought a Turtle Beach DSS2 virtual surround headphone amp for my consoles yesterday. Was amazed how much detail I'd never heard in FM4 (despite having a surround amp/speakers) - so am really excited to hear the output of FM5 now.

Thanks Sal, great impressions.

I guess we'll have to see if final build is closer to Laguna seca or bernese alps (obviously newer build) but impressions on physics and pad are great.
hoping for tons of cars on the track.

Excellent all round! Cheers Sal, and thanks for emailing me the pictures. Ooh la la - no wonder Mrs Sal deleted them! I've seen fewer bangers in a firework factory. Was that a REAL goat?

Extremely disappointing. I'd take a drop to 900p if it allowed them to eliminate jaggies.

'some jaggies present' in a demo unit, which typically means sitting a few inches away from a large screen, sounds good enough to me.

Thanks Sal! I was really starting to get worried about the controller so it's good to hear it feels great. I will get my hands on the game and the controller too if I catch the tour truck in Vienna :)

This one and Dead Rising seem to be the cream of the crop. Can't get a read on the multiplatform games. If you enter those threads you would think the Xbox One versions will look worse than the 360 from how people trash the system.

"jaggies" is just another one of those weird things that this forum gets worked up on. i mean, if there are people who are truly as put-off about them as they make it sound on the internet, how do they get through a day dealing with life in general? It is so minor.

It is that thing....i can't remember the term for it....where people ignore everything and find only the tiniest of flaws and just dwell on the forsaking everything else. where they can't enjoy anything.
