Everything I'm hearing about those triggers in the controller has me excited. My favorite thing about using a wheel is knowing how my wheel alignment and grip feel in a turn, knowing how hard I can push it. Having something even close to that standard in every controller will be awesome.

Amen.

I have been waiting my entire life for thumb control that isn't flicking the wheels 90 degrees every few milliseconds.

Even if this thumb control gives me 10 degree increments, it would be a big step up. Actually what would be nice is a tension knob that could be adjusted game to game. Something to hinder slippage or looseness so I can actual point and stick my wheels in one direction.

It's 2014. Please no more 90 degree thumb flicking to turn vehicles with a controller.

Rumored but not yet confirmed/unveiled

Long Beach Grand Prix Circuit (USA)
Autodromo Nazionale Monza (Italy)
Yas Island Marina Circuit (Abu Dhabi)
Pacific Raceways (USA)

Lime Rock Park (USA)

We know these have been either laser scanner by Smart Geometrics (who also scanned Bathurst and Silverstone) or by guys who said they were working for a next gen Microsoft game.

the difference between a wheel and a controller is not a difference. They cannot be compared. It is two totally and completely different experiences.

This. I'm all for differences of opinion ... but anyone who thinks the controller even remotely matches the experience of using a wheel is just wrong.

Enjoy the game you get with the hardware you have ... but don't pretend they are the same. They aren't.

I got to play the F5 Laguna Seca demo at the Sydney EB Games expo yesterday.

Reading some of the comments here and in different places, you might think Forza 5 will turn out looking like up an up-rezzed version of Pitstop on the old Commodore 64 or something. In truth, it looked fantastic. Yes, there were a couple of jaggies on the high def car model you get to look at in the pre-race loading screen, but no big deal. It really did look something special.

The biggest 'shock' for me, if you could call it that, was the new controller. It was good, but it felt quite different. Especially the smaller thumbsticks. But I reckon after a couple of hours of using it, I will get used to it. The rumble triggers were a nice touch.

The biggest disappointment was that it was the Laguna Seca demo and not a demo of Bathurst. Not that I was really expecting it, but it would have been nice.

All up, I am as keen for this game as for any previous Forza. And as the pic below shows, I have played and finished them all. Bring it on Turn 10!

Thanks for the impressions....

And holy crap on your achievements! Good job man. I have all those games, but no where near the level of completion. But do you have Forza 1 for the original Xbox???

Thanks! Sadly, I only got into the Xbox with the 360. Never owned an original.

Some of those Forza acheivements are a real grind though. Took my time with Forza 4, and didnt complete it until last month. That last bucket list achievement was a killer.

Forza 1 was really good. Had night time racing on some tracks and a lot of original tracks that never came to the other games that many have been wanting...yes I am looking at you "Blue Mountain", "Rio", "Alpine Ring", these were great tracks and have been really missed and hope someday to play them on a future Forza title.

One of my fav parts of Forza 1 was that you could leave paint behind on the barriers. That and blue mountain.

Maybe this Wednesday's reveal will contain more MUSTANGS.

Late breaking news, Turn 10 has lost the Ford Mustang license. To alleviate the heartache of Mustang fans, the very similar Lada line of vehicles will take it's place in the game instead...

You do know the original Forza works fine on your 360, don't you? You can get a copy dirt cheap on eBay. It's not aged particularly well but is worth getting for the historical aspect.

Does anyone know if FM4 had windshield damage?
I've never crashed hard enough to notice but I did manage to do it in FM5. After purposely driving into a barrier at speed, the windscreen ended up having massive cracks in it..

Also, I like how when you damage your car, notices pop up on the screen telling you exactly what components have been affected..

so, assuming all rumors are true FM5 is getting these either new or significantly updated tracks:

Rescanned:

  • Silverstone (confirmed) (SmartGeometrics laser scanned the track)
  • Nurburgring Nordschleife (rumored/heavily hinted at by someone at T10 iirc)
Entirely new
  • Prague (confirmed)
  • Spa Francorchamps (confirmed)
  • Bathurst (confirmed)
  • Long Beach Grand Prix Circuit (SmartGeometrics laser scanned the track)
  • Yas Island Marina Circuit (SmartGeometrics laser scanned the track)
  • Pacific Raceways (SmartGeometrics laser scanned the track)
  • Autodromo Nazionale Monza (laser scanned by someone who said they were working on Microsoft's next gen racer)
  • Lime Rock Park (laser scanned by someone who said they were working on Microsoft's next gen racer)
  • Circuit of the Americas (BADNED might or might NOT have hinted at something)

I don't know, if FM5 had that many new tracks wouldn't T10 be screaming about it from the rooftops by now ?

No, in FM4 cracks on the windscreen were not visible in cockpit view.
This is entirely new to the series, and I'm surprised we haven't heard about this until you told us.

Also, isn't it strange that Pagani Huayra's cockpit was glitched in the Alps demo, but it worked perfectly fine in the Prague demo back at E3 ?

My thoughts exactly!

Were any of the Forza 4 tracks laser scanned?

TGTT has a good track surface feel, I know they added bumps to some circuits but I felt it was a level above those.

Has this TGS presentation video been posted before?

Great showcase of Laguna, as well as the Pro physics and pretty neat drive from presenter.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgF2rdt5ZUQ#

Great video.

I remember the 1 lap restriction was such a pain in the butt. It took forever to restart a race. Ended up driving the other way for a while there just so I can do some longer testing.

Non ABS has also been redone. The wheels lock up much more easily, quicker than before. The good thing about the controller is that you can sense when that will happen..

On another note, I hope that this time around, the racing flywheel upgrade has a greater effect on things. While FM4 certainly had this aspect in the game,(where revs are freer) the effect wasn't as dramatic as it could be.
I want instant response dammit!

I would bet they don't have the list locked down. They probably have a hard locked hands off deadline, any track not done and 100% bug smashed will come later in the frequent updates they talked about at E3.

That, or they have a Marketing schedule that is a 4 or 3 week blitz, so they are saving everything for the run up. It will be all dropped on us then.

Helios, I'd like to ask and would love an answer..will there be an option to turn off the dynamic score featured in the game?

Please, for the love of dual Webber carbs and velocity stacks, please say yes..

ask Helios something more difficult, I'm sure there will be detailed sound options

I wonder if the custom music option at the hardware level in the 360 influenced the amount of resources that went into the soundtracks for the Forza games. They've been fine, but there hasn't been a soundtrack among them that I would actually track down to listen to outside the game like I did with PGR3 or GT3.

I was just thinking perhaps that score was integrated somehow and the actual soundtracks were the optional stuff.
GRID had something similar and if I remember correctly, you couldn't turn it off..

Finally to see a "good" driver. He wasn't great, but he wasn't bad either. The engine sounds better. Not some overblown sounds that are in the older games. Especially in cockpit view.

Yep, I noticed this when I was playing.

That was the second thing I noticed after the blinding light after turn 3 (lol). Him switching between the views really helped that change stick out. GT5 has that similar effect, but of course, their samples/processing is just so much worse. I'm glad that FM5 is able to have this effect while still keeping its sound quality high.

I hope that race modding cars makes the sounds become more raw, as there is less sound insulation.

FM4 had that feature already. Once you gutted the interior, the cabin became louder.
However, because now the stock cockpit filters have been reworked, that same effect should be even more noticeable..

I can't wait to hear the uncompressed sound in this game on my surround sound.

I hope the tuned V8's in the Mustangs absolutely ROAR.
For sure.
I have a great open setup but I find that a pair of Sennheisers pick up a lot more detail.
