Glad you enjoyed the hands-on Saladine1, sorry you missed Brian though.

It's really hard to convey how much of a game-changer the feedback you get through the new controller is, so I'm very glad you mentioned that :) it's all well and good us going on about it but getting such great feedback from actual Forza fans is really important and counts for a lot!

Helios, will you guys announce when the game has gone gold? I am thinking that it should be going gold in the next 2 weeks or so. Just curious as that will signal when we get more info, video's etc.

how about 360 wheel support? can we expect anything on this front or will it continue to be ignored and swept under the rug? (not trying to be aggressive towards you or turn 10, but we deserve answers on this front - even if its bad news)

Good question but I'm not sure if we'll be announcing when the game has gone gold. As we have the day 1 download it means that things are a bit different to previous launches. Will see what I can find out.

You won't have to wait until we go gold to get more info though, like I've said before we're ramping up our media releases now, and I think from Eurogamer Expo onwards we've been pretty good to our word so far :)

It'll be addressed at some point pre-launch, but as it's a hardware and not a software question I'd imagine the answer will come via Microsoft and not from us directly.

Thanks Helios. I am sure there is still some stuff that needs to be certified, but you have a good point about the day 1 patch to add in the last minute things.

Personally, I hope we get some more media soon. The Alps footage was not too encouraging, but I know it was something early/just made etc. For me, it is about tracks and the variety in the tracks, so I hope we get more information on that and lastly, the amount of competitors on the grid is a big one. The fact that the majority of the footage to date has been time attack with one car or only 4 cars on the grid has me salivating to know what the max grid count is going to be.

I got to play the F5 Laguna Seca demo at the Sydney EB Games expo yesterday.

Reading some of the comments here and in different places, you might think Forza 5 will turn out looking like up an up-rezzed version of Pitstop on the old Commodore 64 or something. In truth, it looked fantastic. Yes, there were a couple of jaggies on the high def car model you get to look at in the pre-race loading screen, but no big deal. It really did look something special.

The biggest 'shock' for me, if you could call it that, was the new controller. It was good, but it felt quite different. Especially the smaller thumbsticks. But I reckon after a couple of hours of using it, I will get used to it. The rumble triggers were a nice touch.

The biggest disappointment was that it was the Laguna Seca demo and not a demo of Bathurst. Not that I was really expecting it, but it would have been nice.

All up, I am as keen for this game as for any previous Forza. And as the pic below shows, I have played and finished them all. Bring it on Turn 10!

I'm excited for this game. At the same time, I'm debating buying a Fanated wheel, pads and stick, as I was mostly using the Ms Wheel set on the 360. I hope Fanatec comes out with a patch or aomething as I'm aure aloy pf people don't wanna spend 1000 US on a cockpit setup again

Thank you very much for this Helios, we all presumed it and I know it is not easy to withold such info because it compomise so much. But nevertheless, I hope Forza series will get some new "pro" wheel at some point with both clutch and shifter that serious FM5 players will certainly deserve.

I never understood the Microsoft's ignorance towards HID support, despite the licencing revenue from other types of peripherals then wheels, and with this new development for nextgen, I am even more confident how that particular ignorance have been the greatest obstacle to establish Forza series among hardcore audience.

I know it is not up to Turn10 - I think majority of T10 tech-guys would be the happiest people on planet if industry-standard would be supported, but in the same time I still feel grief because wheel owners have always been treated as #2 Tier players in Forza series.

I hope programmers will find a way to finally give all FM5 wheel players the options to use the wheel without problems we all had during past generation: inability to use controller and wheel simultaniously (which was horrid firewall for proper usage of 3 main functionalities of the game: Livery Editor, PhotoMode and AutoVista), inability to have proper left-right look with drawn interiour when using the wheel (something controller players had as default when in cockpit-view), as well as ability to custom-map the button configuration on the wheel.

Thank you one more time for this unoficial clarification.

In theory, the issue of wheels working along side controller should be a thing of the past with Kinect's automatic controller assignment, no ?

Anyway, I was glad to read your positive impressions Sal, November really can't come soon enough...

News was breaking that MS were having problems with XID in the new Xbox One and were forced to switch to HID very late.
Then my daughter woke me up.

No. It is part of the OS-behaviour enformced my MS since the first Xbox, where you can have only one device assigned by one profile.

On PC or PS2/PS3 we can assign wheel and controller on one profile in the same time. You can't do such on the Xbox platform.

So unless Microsoft does not change that for XboxOne and OSOne, the FM5 wheel players will continue to suffer the same way we all did during the past generation - and even worse, because unlike Fanatec CSRE and CSR models from thisgen, new Thurstmater and MadCatz XboxOne wheels do not even have left-thumbstick as Fanatec late models had.

yeah, that was a very stupid decision, and proven to be stupid!

this "one controller per profile" was a measure microsoft took to avoid hacking.

and their machine, the 360, it was hacked YEARS before playstation 3 was, that didn't even impose such stupid (for the consumer) anti-hacking (stupid) measures ...

Has it been confirmed that there will be V8 Supercars in this game?

I ask because I saw GT6 running at the EB expo in Sydney and no V8 Supercars on Bathurst is just stupid really... as I said in the GT6 Bathurst thread if you have that track you need the right toys.

there was a lovely shiny Forza/xbox one commodore at the xbox booth, but I haven't seen a digital version as of yet

Nothing confirmed but probably yes. At least the holden's and ford's from previous games. And the HSV GTS in the bathurst gameplay pic.

The X1 gamepad looks very nice, similar to the initial fat xbox controller which i loved. And this game just keeps getting more interesting. If now MS could only ditch the kinect i'm down for an xbox.

There was an advert somewhere, for Forza 5, that mentions at least two V8 Supercars. Let's hope it was accurate on them being in the game.

Pretty clear that because this game is coming in hot, they aren't burning man-hours on press builds and trailers. I am sure it is all hands on deck in QA and bug smashing until a near final build right before gold, and they are going to pull trailers and shots from that.

Which, frankly I am fine with. I am not a guy who needs constant reminders of the progress of something that is still under construction. When it is done, show us, until then heads down.

Video games have to be the only industry where fans DEMAND to see what you are working on before it is done, and lack of 100% transparency is considered betrayal to you fans. Just weird behavior all over this forum.
This.

There was a happier time in this industry when developers and consumers had little interaction. Developers were "heads down" until the product was complete. Consumers had no choice but to simply "wait and see".

I always appreciated id's common mantra: "It's done when it's done."

And the price of console games then wasn't signiifcantly less expensive than now because of the use of expensive EPROMs as opposed to optical discs.

Why consumers refuse to throttle back and take the less anxiety-ridden "wait and see" stance is beyond me. The excuse of "passion" for the game/series/genre is overused.

I just am looking for some confirmation, I know it has already been stated that no current 360 accessories will work with the One.
So this is all the confirmation one needs to know that the current MS Wireless Racing Wheel will indeed NOT work with Forza 5? Correct?

That wheel is an amazing wheel, just wish there could be someway to get it working with Forza 5, especially since the thing was not cheap whatsoever.

So can anyone confirm this is absolutely 110% the case, that it will not work? If so, I am going to go ahead and try and sell it for money towards a new wheel.

TIA,
DL

I'm not a wheel guy but I've noticed you wheel guys aren't making enough of a ruckus about this. Band together, head to Twitter, and nag Phil Spencer. I'm sure it's can't be too difficult of a problem to fix if they were inclined to do so.

If you're lucky someone will make a converter box

There has been a LOT of ranting about it. I'm just disappointed that Turn 10 don't seem to care one way or the other.

When it comes to wireless wheels, is there even a way they COULD work around it?

I thought the X1 was using a completely new connection type. Isn't it using Wi-Fi direct?

I would assume that means that only hardwired wheels would see an easy workaround. Perhaps some kind of dongle/adapter could be made for old wireless hardware.

That is how I see it. The new machine uses new wireless protocols, new systems etc that make the controller totally different. The hardware teams have a millions things to do, making old wheels work under this new protocol is probably way down that list.

I said it before... If they could make it easily work, I am sure they would. Maybe they can but it won't happen until later updates. Maybe it would work but it is super buggy.

Ultimately the number of people inconvenienced by it is tiny compared to other issues they need to make work. They are helping design new wheels built ground up for a launch console. That is pretty surprising by itself.

This attitude that Microsoft just wants to kick dirt on people who bought a madcatz 3 years ago because it somehow won't work right on the new box is not a reasonable reaction.

They might be truthful when they say "maybe we can support legacy but we can't say yes or no because we have to launch a new console."

Everything I'm hearing about those triggers in the controller has me excited. My favorite thing about using a wheel is knowing how my wheel alignment and grip feel in a turn, knowing how hard I can push it. Having something even close to that standard in every controller will be awesome.

I just realized I've never played a racing game with a FF wheel, and I've been playing them for 20 years.

I have owned several FF wheels - a PC one a long time ago that was pre-USB.

The one that shipped in the bundle with Gran Turismo 3.

And the MS wireless one for Xbox 360.

While the experience of all of them was/is great. I don't have the space to leave them always setup. I also have eye trouble these days and often need to sit closer to the screen than a wheel will allow. And also because I've a busy family life now I don't long gaming sessions fiddling with a wheel is less appealing.

I'm glad then that Forza 4 was so great with a pad. Sure you lose something compared to the wheel. But it's not as if using a wheel gives you all the real feedback of sitting in a real car anyway. It's a nice extra, but not essential.

The place that it would make the most sense to raise hell about it because it's plugged straight into T10/MS is on Forzamotorsport.net. However as it's been pointed out numerous times, you bring up the topic and the thread, no matter how calm and civil, get's locked down immediately. A lot of other gaming forums are filled with apathetic pad users who don't care one way or another. It's the one area of consumer contention that they don't seem concerned enough to do a 180 on. It's the unfortunate side effect of being a niche within a niche, I suppose.

That's what has held me back all these years. I have limited space, and I find it incredibly annoying to set up something so I can play. One day I'll pick one up though, see what I've been missing. I'll probably instantly regret not having one all these years...

Possibly. They are good fun.

Just don't let the snobs make out you're not a real racing gamer without one. :)

Yeah if mine is relegated to PC only I'm gonna have to start looking for an alternative.

Thrustmater wheel looks better than expected but the pedals and shifter situation is worrying, don't like the thought of losing the CSPs.

Yeah just to chime back in, I have taken it to Twitter, and the official forums, and all of my "campaigns" have mystery vanished with no response. It is beyond messed up.

As far as having the room for a wheel, believe me, I can relate to that. My wife hates clutter, and the very definition of clutter is setting up a wheel in my TV room in front of the TV, which involves moving a coffee table, etc. The workaround I found for it was a very simple end table that actually has a wooden top and bottom. I can mount the wheel on the top and put the pedals on the bottom and just carry up and down from my basement accordingly. While it is a pain in the ass, it is not that big of one, and the difference between a wheel and a controller is not a difference. They cannot be compared. It is two totally and completely different experiences. I will let you take a wild guess as to which experience I feel is the better one.

And right, as someone pointed out, there is the different wireless protocol, but I would have to imagine some sort of USB adapter could perhaps be made? I would (begrudgingly) pay a decent amount for an adapter as these MS Wireless Wheels were not cheap by any stretch of the imagination. They are also very well made.

I am kind of optimistic, I believe fanatec could release a dongle or some kind of decoder.
it's not going to be cheap, but I'm sure it is possible.

Is there going be more track announcements or is that it for new tracks?

I heard Monza might be in but that was a while back so i've kind of lost hope.

And wonder how many cars will be on track at any one time, I'm hoping for more than 16

Saladine's post as me hyped good job : )

There was a list of possible new circuits from a laser scanning company, we're just waiting on reveals to confirm them.
