Forza 5 Showroom | New cars and details for Forza 5, ongoing reveals

Need more footage Turn 10. I need it like a crack whore needs a fix.

Give us something outrageous. Something out of left field. Something that tantalizes the senses, specifically the auditory senses. Something completely different to what you are accustomed to.

Give me something you sons a beeches!!!!!!!!

Oh and Helios, if you get in touch with Brian, let him know that I'm bringing my Sennheisers with me to the Expo. I want to hear Forza without the bullshit on the show-floor...

Remember all the content we got for 3, and how we complained about not getting enough info. We didn't know it could get this bad :(

Some guys are saying they were shown Mount Panorama at the EB Expo, but weren't allowed to play it. Hmmm...

Meanwhile, GT6's Bathurst will be playable.....

We had a peek at Forza Motorsport 5’s tribute to Bathurst, and it is a stunning reflection of the real thing. Bathed in golden morning light, the Xbox version has everything that enthusiasts could expect from a racing simulator in 2013, right down to the metal grate set into the edge of the track at Sulman Park.

V8 Supercars will feature in Forza 5, along with Australian cars including the HSV E Series GTS.

Microsoft has not let members of the public drive its simulation of Bathurst, but it appears to be the real deal at a first glance.

Please Helios, BADNED, tell me we will be seeing more Australian cars. Please tell me we will be seeing the classics. A hint, a smile, anything....

Are those dust particles I'm seeing in the background at 0,26sec? Something that simple makes the presentation really more immersive.

yes, as track surroundings are basically dust, t10 goes for that nextgen flare by spending some cycles to do dust on dusty, mist on misty, etc.
its nice, as long as it doesnt hamper anything important to racing :)

also near the finishing line, the guy goes outside view and turns around the joystick. looks like game has good detail and draw distance. and its 100% fluent and smooth, even now.
driving seems great (I dont speak japanese but it looks like no abs/traction) and I liked that brake bumping at the top of the corkscrew
last thing, there are many close encounters with that koenigsegg, and it seems to hold pretty nice visually up close.

Thats nice. As for the dust particles, I didn't see a trail of dust once one of cars got off track. It would be cool for a car to leave a trail of dust as a visual on-track indication of how far ahead the other players are as opposed to looking on the mini map. For example, in that video, when I saw the dust I thought that was where the others were.

you have your clocks and lap counters and distance meters for that. you will be able to see how far ahead/back the next/previous guy is in meters and seconds. like in previous forza games.

Great video!

I don't know what to think.

bah! just go get a beer and forget your (wrong) worries. and think about this instead: november i'm beating your ass in your hometrack!! bigtime! 8)

edit:
I cant understand how anyone who has actually played Forza 4 looking at this and saying it looks the same, or a little better.
well, tbh, forza 4 doesnt look bad. only the resolution is a problem even comparing to today's standards. here's a video from the same guy on forza4 vs real:

btw, I wish tsukuba gets a nextgen treatment also 8)

Ok, guys, i got my hands on a near final build and i have a few new details for you.

First of all; lots of tracks.
Basically all the rumored ones, all the old ones (no positano long, there was 'amalfi 2' though, which is a longer and different version of FM4's amalfi, i'd say between amalfi and positano in lenght) plus at least a couple original tracks we haven't heard of yet; Miami and Rome, a gorgeous looking city track.

A lot of tracks have alternate time of day, this time though, you have a slider to control that in free race mode and you can choose any time of the day with lighting and shadows changing accordingly.

I wanted to try Spa but i was told it currently looks awful (unlit and untextured), so i tried rome instead.

Graphics are a mixed bag; slightly disappointing at first, a few rendering issues here and there, a few elements looking like a step back from fm4, but in the right places it could also look absolutely amazing.
Replays now have a completely different style; it's not floating forza cam, but not tv cam either; it's something rather unique i wouldn't know how to describe. Looked great though.

Bad news.
There's only 111 cars in the game, which is incredibly disappointing.

I didn't get to see a lot of new cars, but the Ferrari LaFerrari was there and looking great. Didn't get to drive it though.

Overall very pleased with number of tracks and time of day slider.

Wish i had more time with the game, but then my daughter woke me up.

I know I know, but I think it would look cool if you could see the dust trails of cars in front of you and go "damn, they there already?". Small detail.

111 is really bad in terms of 'Forza Motorsport', didn't PGR3 ship with like 70 odd?

The rest of the information is great, i suppose. By "a few rendering issues" is this something they're looking to fix or is that it? Is there a game-wide downgrade from those Prague videos?
How did you manage to get your hands on it? On a side note, I assume when you say any time of day, you don't actually mean 'any'? As in, I can't choose night time, or can I? Do you know which tracks have this option?

Unless they've modelled all the cars with headlights etc then nigh-racing is certainly out and given we've seen no mention of nigh-tracing i think it's safe to assume morning-evening (every hour between 9 and 5?) is what's available.

Excited at the notion of alternative time of day yea...Which to be fair, I still think they'll have. At least 2 different ToD options for certain tracks I think is a fair ask.
Yeah I feel you, I wish they would release videos with a different ToD allready, that sunflare is getting annoying. My guess is they will have 2-3 different times for most of the tracks available too

bah, I dont think so.
having them do the tracks in nextgen style (either from scratch, laser scanning or just upgrade from older) will take enough time to do once in order to have track variety.
spending their time doing the same track twice instead of sprucing up a different track is something I wouldnt choose to do if time was a thing in my list. and doing parity gameplay-wise on an older track compared to a laser scanned one might not be as easy as it sounds.
I could do a dlc pack later on though, for those who need it.

Amazing. I knew it was not real though because of the slider thing.

the rough shadows on those recent screenshots might suggest the ability to set time of day, with the xbox baking in lower resolution shadows before the race?

of course, if you take what you wrote for word value, it is nonsense to say that f5 doesnt look much better than f4. resolution and car texturing alone are a big step up.

if you have a good connection to watch 2hd vids at once, here's a comparison
http://youtubedoubler.com/anRO
and here's another one
http://youtubedoubler.com/anSv

even if both are direct feed vs whatever cam off-screen, no sane person can really say and believe that f4 looks better than f5 :)

Should have elaborated but I was on mobile.
I mean that the slider would actually change the lighting in realtime. If that would be in there, there would be no excuse for no time of day change during race.

And I actually think TOD is in, no? Wasn't it the first thing "leaked" from some menu shots?

as far as i know its not confirmed. someone in this thread, or another fm5 thread said it was confirmed that selectable ToD was in but was "too lazy to look up the source" when asked. we have seen the time and track temp listed in load screens for tracks, but thats nothing new and certainly shouldnt be taken as confirmation.

seems likely though. fm4 had it for a few tracks and was only held back by lack of disc space (now much less of an issue) and those jaggy shadows.

No, like MrKlaw said it wouldn't be dynamic (as in, changing in real time during the race).
The xbox wouldn't have to recalculate shadows every frame (or every few frames) but only once before the race, "print" shadows on textures - store in ram or on the hdd and voilà, job done.

Very easy, actually.

I don't think that's the case, mind you, but it wouldn't be hard to implement and handle.

BTW, yeah i don't remember hearing anything about TOD this time, maybe in that twitch when Dan confirmed no weather and no night racing ?

(and sorry about the dream guys :p)

Can someone please explain this pre baked lighting stuff?

"Prebaked" is sort of a misnomer the way most people here use it. For a lot of games, rather than using more resource intensive real-time lighting for static objects (the environment, etc), they use percalculated shadow sets, then dynamic lighting on anything that could move (characters/vehicles, etc). When it's done well, you end up with higher quality shadows for the environment than you could otherwise, and the real-time elements for dynamic objects react to those shadows and light sources just as you'd expect. The only downside to this is you can't easily change the "global" lighting direction.

Within a three hour period, there's no meaningful change in lighting for a Time of Day shift, but some racing games have the 24-hour le Mans events, or just an accelerated 24-hour clock (Zelda Ocarina style) to create some variety. Anyone who suggests categorically that "prebaked lighting looks worse" in a still image or short clip doesn't know what they're talking about.

Back to reality I guess. Played today Tgs build or version or whatever it was and yeah, it's kinda messy - lighting bugs, close to no smoke, no dirt on windshield ( maybe only Helios know how to drive to get it) and extremely awful TV (TVs were bad almost for all games, though). And after couple of laps the only verdict is a must buy.
Two words: impulse triggers. They are really great(of course if you are a filthy casual like me, playing sim with a pad) and gave me that next-Gen feel. And it still forza, so driving is great and sound is gorgeous.

I really hope they will fix all this bugs

Sounds great for pad users.

I read somewhere the vibration was weak, how did you find it?

Edit: there's a small off screen shot of Bathurst at this week in review.

You would think that of all places to show Bathurst, the Sydney Expo would be the ideal place. A little strange it has to be said.

Unless they are keeping it under wraps for next week's big race?
