Forza 5 Showroom | New cars and details for Forza 5, ongoing reveals

Okay here's my effort at recreating the shot in Forza 4. Looks like the light temperature is quite different in the FM5 shot even before we get to the obvious details.

Also I took my shot during a race as I assume - perhaps wrongly - that FM5 will continue the tradition of having empty grandstands and no trackside spectators in hot lap mode. Obviously my shot is photo mode not a regular screenshot - though we can probably assume the same can be said of the shot above.

until i saw Jack's pic, I was running around in all 3 variations of the track, trying to find where is that spot with the correct shadow :D

so, i couldnt find it because the sun is in an entirely different position.
this is the straight before the left turn and big downhill segment.
in f4 the sun is behind us while in f5 is across us, thats why shadows in f5 pic in front while in f4 back.

also I picked a beige metallic oem color because reflections and time of day.
my photo settings are reset to default.

note: since aventador sounds so fucking great in f4, I want to hear it growl in f5 even better 8)
note 2: better to not discuss the xbone general situation here.

Yeah, I don't get it. If these guys can do it, why can't everybody else?

They can. The hardware can make for 1080p. It's not really a big deal. It's funny when people think other consoles will have better/worse resolutions. There's a performance gap- but it's not that big.

You definitely did a better job of recreating the car angle than I did. I see you did it in hot lap mode.

The more images I see of this game the more jazzed I am to play it in November. Nice to see an on-track shot. I was getting bored of the "home space" shots. Those comparison shots P3tran and JackAubrey posted really show how far the game has come from FM4. Can't wait to see what pics Forza-GAF will put up when the game finally comes out. My hard drive will be waiting for all the pics.

Let's hope it's not a self-fulfilling prophecy regarding multiplayer - we've all seen cars float like that in previous games...

I'll step in and help clear the whole floating thing up.

It's the lighting and shadows being similar in color. The lighting appears to be "under" the tire due to the curvature of the tire.

I know what P3tran is trying to show, but I'm not sure he understands how to show the lighting and the illusion it creates (no offense p3tran).

This should help...as you can see the shadow starting for the tire...it just blends to the same color, unfortunately. Here you go...below. I changed the shadow levels to hopefully show where it starts.

in1q.jpg

There is no ambient occlusion or anything of the like, so it looks like it's floating. The shadows near the tires should look darker.

AWESOME comparison shot with the fm4 aventador and the alps. you can really appreciate how much better the in game lighting is in fm5.

Ok, went through and looked at every Show Room shot.

Almost every other car is sitting in a different spot and some cars are in nearly the same spot, but turned to the left or to the right. Some are facing in the complete opposite direction despite being in the same area.

All this in the same "home space/showroom". Also, some cars have their tires turned left, some right, some straight. Did they program every car to be in a different position in the show rooms or is it something we control?

I'm wondering if you can position, drive, move, or setup the cars any way you want. Even with a driver in them. Maybe you can drive them straight out of the showroom to a test track? I don't think that's likely though.

while i'm not saying we wont be able to manipulate things as you've mentioned, you might be jumping to conclusions. the homespaces in fm4 cycled through different car positions each time you "activated" them. if you wanted to take a picture in a home space but didnt like the cars positioning, you could back out, then go back in and the car's position would cycle to a new spot. iirc there were 3 positions for each homespace. its entirely possible fm5 is the same, or better (with more positions), or as you've mentioned we may now have the ability to select it ourselves. i'm leaning towards the same system though likely with a few more variables (driver/no driver for example).

remember, it hasn't been confirmed that it is 1920x1080p...

the way things are going it could very well be a "PR" 1080p.

Also, the jaggies are everywhere with this game, making me think that whatever resolution they got it running at is so strained that they couldn't afford any AA solution.

it is not "PR" 1080p - which i assume you mean as a lower res upscaled. turn10 and MS have said on multiple occasions that it is definitely 1080p native. hopefully that doesnt change.

for the new page.. to set the mood 8)

lets see how many red lines you can paint on that!

All i can see is the bad texture work on the snow... i am sorry but when the car looks good, the eyes wonder around to see if everything else matches up to the same quality and in this case... it doesn't.

It is also... a really low poly mountain side...

how come t10 dont notice these things hmm

Adding Ambient Occlusion is one other process that'll tax the system that doesn't add too much. Besides accurate AO is very expensive.

For some reason that Alps shot looks like it has AO. Why the homespace wouldn't, Idk.

i see no flags on those after a google search? and its not a huge deal i just think its an ugly design

I have gone through 2 sets of them on my E90 M3 and both had flags much larger than my current set of Super Sports.

Only other thing they could be is the "purple crack" Hoosiers A6 and R6 have pretty big flags on them as well or at least the set on my D stock R56 MCs JCW do.

** The newer versions of the DW no longer have flags on them as per TireRack search.

its... also a giant blur. not sure how you can make out much in the way of texture detail...

What texture work are you talking about ?
There's tons of motion blur, it looks perfectly fine.

What I see is AO on the car, much better lighting, much better shaders for plastic, rubber and glass.
More detailed backgrounds.
Hype.

Looks great.

It's almost like it's running on brand new hardware! Amazing!

Textures... i'll give you the benefit of doubt, however you can clearly see the low poly work on the mountain side...

For game launching in less Than a month there's a serious lack of direct footage or info on this game. They have to realize they ain't halo or cod

Does FM5 going gold mean that facts will be released?

Remember that "going gold" does not mean as much as it does for other games, since T10 have said that they will include a lot of content in a day 1 patch and the disks will be incomplete (yet playable)

Note: Correct me if I'm wrong because I read this a few months ago and haven't heard anything on it since.

yes, you are right, and they have planned for this a long time ago, but even I expect that they'll show a lot of stuff before release date.

I was unable to travel into the future to beat you
well better luck next time :p

Finally, some CBOAT positivity.
Xbox One saved!

Took note, left to find thread, read thread, came away even more convinced of the unbridgeable power gap. I do admire your positivity though!
The hardware is what it is, and if Xbone can pump out stuff like E3 Prague then it should be fine, just maybe not so much in side-by-side multiplats.
I'd love to see the latest build of Prague running on consumer hardware so it can be compared with the E3 footage. All concerns about downgrades could instantly vanish.
