Finally had the chance to check the latest vids on my tv.
Well on a 50" 720p screen (youtube videos set to 720p also) jaggies are almost non existent most of the time and I'd imagine a 1080p set would look much cleaner even.
Definitely not the same IQ as the alps video, at all, btw.

Are the less compressed videos available or are you just watching the youtube/gamespot videos on your TV?

i suggest you guys keep checking xbox wire media assets, but it's been a while since the last forza 5 was video posted there, i believe most recent one is the alps direct feed

Checking in sick from the office this morning....bleh.

Any rumors on stuff this week?

I believe there was a press event last week, and aparently the embargo is up sometime this week. So we should be getting some news this week on Forza as well as the hardware and other games.

I have no idea which day the embargo is up though.

So EVO (who did quite a big feature on FM4 when it launched) have done another brilliant effort with FM5. The latest issue which is dropping onto people's doorsteps from today has some other cool details in it along with an 8 page spread on the new game.
The car list will include historic and CURRENT grand prix cars!!!
The McLaren M23 and Ferrari 312-2 from Rush (and the 1976 F1 season) will be available as a free download at launch.

As Shaneus said, it's not exactly the unicorns themselves that were terrible, it was the way to win them. You had almost zero chance if you weren't in the US or staying up very late at night in the EU do some stuff.

Anyway, I thought I'd share some FM4 photos again. Hopefully the user-made liveries are as high res as the latest FM4 DLC cars now. Also, after playing a bit of FM4 again, Sebring really got a huge upgrade in FM5. Anyone not seeing a difference between FM4 and FM5 needs to get their eyes checked...

Honestly, looking at these, then at FM5, I am still not seeing how anyone thinks FM5 is anything other than a marginal upgrade.

Do subscribers get the magazine early? If not I'm gonna pop across the road to check it out.

Yeah, subs get it a few days early. I think the newest Top Gear and Evo mags are out later this week for everyone.

It might be why they both have a bit more info in, because they are out after the Wednesday embargo.

We haven't seen many FM5 shots taken with the photo mode in this way.

That's something to T10's credit - we've been shown quite a few videos of the gameplay now, rather than fancy photomode stuff.

Surprised we haven't had a replay yet though.

If it were really a big upgrade this wouldn't be an issue. It would be very obvious.

Instead what we have seen looks virtually no better at all. Well, except the Prague stuff from months ago. But I think we're supposed to not point out that elephant in the room.

FM4 doesn't actually look like that in-game (in an actual race, no replay etc.).

And Forza 5 doesn't look like this in a race, either:

Not sure how that's entirely relevant.

Also honestly, the biggest damage when criticizing racing games, is to take a bullshot (8mp? photomode pic in this case, and from a master of forza photography no less) to draw conclusions how the game looks while ...playing.
gran turismo started this painful saga, all other racing games are bound to suffer the same fate :D

but even in bullshot mode you are still wrong on this. go back a few pages, when t10 released that "F5 lamborghini in alps" pic, and we tried to recreate it with F4. same car, same track, same place.
;)

Shinn made a compariion video. Ill post since i think he is still banned.

Direct feed vs. Youtube capture

Ironically, one of the things that does make the game look much more realistic in this video is the glare from the sun that everyone seems to be complaining about. I assume that a lot of people have never actually been driving before. Cars have those sun shields for a reason!

If you've seen it in person, its far more than a marginal upgrade. I went from this straight to GT6 at the expo and it was no comparison whatsoever. I'm not trying to do a GT vs Forza thing here, I was mainly just using it because it was quite a direct 'next gen to current gen' comparison I got to experience the other day. Its a big difference. I know you'll ignore this and continue to just pop in here randomly to say something negative like you always do, but just in general, anybody who thinks that any of these next-gen games wont be a big upgrade are kidding themselves.

Yeah, I did the exact same thing. Went from FM5 straight to GT6 and was like apples and oranges. Could've been any other racer and not just GT. But the differences were pretty drastic, no question about it.

edit:
i see in his yt channel he got to test forza in brazil show :)
www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5RuzhUJduc&hd=1
haha he goes no aids and just goes braking out of the first turns

in the end, he tests for what I wanted to see tested, donuts & smoke, a good test to see if solid framerate.

cheers sinnn!

Whoa, megaton. Two weeks to go, and I feel there's so much left to find out.

There's far more smoke than I'd expected.

Great comparison too, you'd have to be fucking blind or never played a Forza game before to see just how far the visuals have advanced.

They've addressed almost everything that was glaringly bad before.

I can't see it to be honest. Surely they've just mistaken the Indy car for the F1's? I thought current F! cars are under license to Codemasters?

edit: beaten like a red headed stepchild.

Maybe they confused grand prix cars with open wheelers? That's what sounds most likely to me.

Doesn't Codies have a monopoly on that license?

The cars can be licensed independently, with probably some restriction (can't be this year's model, etc). The F1 license is for the sport of Formula 1 in it's entirety.

I'd might buy the mix-up theory though. I'd expect some random video game site to make that mistake, probably a bit more unlikely for a proper mag like EVO. Still quite possible however.

Ok, so there is a possibility it can be true then.
Don't mind a 1 year old F1 car to be honest...

One guy from FM.net has posted a quote

"Forza 5 also sees the debut of open-wheel racing cars for the first time in the series' history. They'll include current and historic Grand Prix cars, and race cars from the IndyCar series, too. A special mention here for the McLaren M23 and the Ferrari 312-2 driven by Nikki Lauder and James Hunt, respectively, during the 1976 Formula 1 Season. Now immortalised on screen in the movie Rush, they will be available as a free download to all Forza 5 players at launch"

I don't think there's a confusion...

HELIOS - BADNED,
can we please have a formal disqualifié about the bullshit evo supposedly writes?

and who's dat dude evo mentions? Niki ..Lauder? LOL
maybe instead of F1 they meant A1, like the small audi car.

I was dubious about Evo mixing things like this up, but an auto journalist with a passion for cars does not not necessarily equate to them being interested in Forza, but the latest quote is a lot more definite. It sounds mouth watering.

It also says that there are 24 players online. Also, from January, you can compare lap times with test drivers from McLaren, Pagani and others...
