If you can't do it properly, don't do it at all (read: GT5 rally mode).

Exactly.
If we can't have it in FM4, we'll have it in FM5!

I'm kind of an optimistic guy, despite all the things we won't have and knowing it could have been better, I know that when the game will be out I'll be spending lots of time on it and enjoying it.
The main thing I'm excited about is 16 players races with a solid 60fps and the new better physics, this alone should be damn good.

Still no date for the demo? Release date is not very far, I hope it will be out soon...

I'm surprised at how many of you are willing to tolerate screen tearing and frame drops, especially in a racing game. WTF BROS!?

using 2d trees is one of the things which allowed GT5 to nail the realistic look, i'm not totally against them since you don't really notice, and they contribute to the overall realistm in visuals

Of course 3d swaying trees are better :)

minus photomode, who cares about 2d trees?

Screen tearing and frame drops are immersive bro.

Haha, seriously! There is a reason that after level 30 I just stopped playing GT5 and went and bought the UE of Forza 3 and then during install deleted my save and then getting back up to lvl 31 and pushing for 50.

I'd rather have what Forza 4 does excellently then some half assed "only rains on this track, weather doesn't exist in the rest of the world" setup. I'm also not a fan of night racing, even the ring at night wasn't all that great for me.

Diff'rent Strokes for sure but I'm just skipping some people's post in this thread as it's just become a race between 3 or 4 people to find the bad points in an otherwise great write-up.

Maybe some of you only play racing games but this is typical with any game, you never know the exact specifics and they always beat around the bush with things because for the most part, until it's gold, it's still being worked on.

Man, the people bitching about news must want to absolutely kill Rockstar.

It think it is actually a good thing that FM4 will not have weather, day/night cycles, rally, etc. It will be a more focused game, do a small number of things but do them all very well. Incremental steps are ok when your dev time is every 2 years. That being said, things like pit stops, other forms of wear (trany, engine, brake, etc), etc should really be in the game. I feel like racing, like actual real racing, is overshadowed by just driving.

I think we should set up a GAF leisurely drive of Amalfi long sometime this month. Not a race, but a slow drive through the glory of our soon to be exiled track. E or F cars, take your time and enjoy the scenery :'(

How do I get into that preorder program if I preordered online and didn't get any e-mail comfirmation (because the shop doesn't send them for pre-orders)? All I have is a paypal receipt (without any mention of Forza 4).

i don't care about night, but dawn/very early morning on the ring in gt5, with the orange sun glowing, the blue fill light, the blue-ish haze was something i could fap to. I hope the ring has similar light conditions in fm4.

Just to clarify for the record, I'm not bothered at all that night racing and weather didn't make the cut. The reasons for their omission are solid.

My beef is that key spokespeople at Turn 10 allowed a myth to perpetuate, one that they knew to be 100% false.

You'd never let your kid continue to think they were getting that mini moto they wanted for Christmas when all you'd bought them was a pushbike.

Pretty sure they are working on it, maybe they just couldn't get it done in time. I was still convinced F4 was gonna have it, as well as rally. Unlike PD they probably don't have the luxury of spending all of Microsofts time and money. That's probably why they didn't flat out deny it until now.

I don't think you can. Can't you have the company email you something that might show it? I had to put my gamertag on my Amazon receipt. I can't imagine they'd let you slide without any proof of actually pre-ordering.

That's my assumption too. I'm sure there are some versions of night tracks and possibly even weather attempts at T10 ... but I'll take 60FPS and a smooth racing experience over screen tearing and pop up with rain any day.

Well that first teaser really set some myths up.. I mean come on, they showed wet roads and night racing.
Problem is they paid another company to produce it. Im sure they gave them bullet points of what to put in, or at least I would hope so.
When marketing a game you should examine everything your going to put your name on to ensure its going to put the game in the best light.
Honestly if they were working on it I would have rather heard a definitive(lol) no and if they pulled it off been knocked on my ass by the announcement of its inclusion. By saying were not discussing it now, your allowing people to form an opinion that they must be saving it for later.

I'm a GT5 driver (GT5+DFGT+No aids).

Horrible tearing. Horrible shadows. Horrible smoke. Horrible framerate. Horrible boxes. Horrible environments.

But...

I love night-day cycles. Love thousands of cars with damages (more ones than others). Love rainy-dry changes. Love resistance races. Love cars.

Once you drive in Nürburgring night-day cycle on you forget everything else. Most immersive experience ever on a racing game.

So...

It's a pitty Turn10 won't achive those things. Since I won't ever buy a 360, I care for 360 players... and for me. The better Turn10 does, the better Polyphony has to do even harder.

All this sim-on-console-competition can only benefit players, whichever their consoles and yes, I would exchange some tearing or variable framerate plus 2D trees for weather and day-night cycles.

PD: Is there any "as good as DFGT" racing wheel for 360? Same quality-price and everything...

They were still winking and stating with sly grins "we aren't talking about that just yet, nudge nudge" at Gamescom. They hoped to nail it in a couple of weeks?

That's right up there with Gareth Wilson's assertion that PGR3 would have been 60fps if Bizarre had another week to work on it.

To be fair, the biggest pressure on PD would be if T10 did weather/night the right way instead of just shoehorning it in with concessions to framerate and other things. If the only way for them to succeed is to half-ass it then I'm glad it isn't showing up. I don't understand why they didn't get wet tire data from Pirelli though.

So, eek5. OT or neogaf car club? There's no hype at the other place right now.

Btw, what the hell is IGN "journalist" going to say on the subject ?

"Hockenheim at any time of the day ! and in the middle of the night !"

people "what ? night races confirmed ? omgomgomg"

ign " (oh shit, didn't T10 say there would be night races ? fuck, must be that other game, damn !) Oh, well, you see, i didn't see night myself actually..cough...but T10 told me there would be *prays T10 reveals night racing*"

Probably Gaf since the other will be dead in like 2 weeks lol (unless you can join multiple clubs.. but probably unlikely)

I had no idea there would be so few Autovista cars. I figured they would put a lot of cars being currently sold in the extra disc or whatever. I've never seen a Camaro SS in real life and probably never will, so I was looking forward to seeing it in Autovista in a big screen.

I'm not a car guy, the SS is the only time I've ever fallen in love with a car (yes, watching shitty Transformers).

New York must have been a licensing nightmare. All those stores and banners needed to be licensed. And if they weren't going to use the NY track from FM1, it is not worth the time and resources.

Also, that leaked trailer from awhile back told us pretty much everything about FM4 (except rivals mode and FM3 import). Still wondering what "hollywood effects" mean. Probably just a special camera/filer option during replay. Would love to see the exact same trailer with updated graphics and at 720p.

Happy with the way FM4 is turning out. Won't be getting as much content as I expected but they have fix nearly all of the problems I had with FM3.
As of right now, the only thing that would disappoint me is if photomode was left untouched.

it was mentioned while showing vignette effects, motion blur and backfire, but I now take it to mean IBL after Dan mentioned employing people from Hollywood (Pixar?) to work on the lighting.

Edit: but the cynics might say all the smoke, mirrors and subterfuge lately is very Hollywood...

There is a chance MS might drop it by $50. But still, it's already so cheap; just grab one.

Need to grab 2, for triple screen, so I lose nothing by waiting, but if they drop the price by 50 bucks a week after release I've just boned myself. I have a friend who is willing to sell me a banned box for 50 bucks but I don't know if it will work on another screen. I might be able to get updates and DLC by swapping a memory stick around.

Last thing I've heard was a $50 price drop for the 4GB Kinect bundle, but without a date.

Walmart currently has this deal until September 5th I believe. I'll be picking one up I think since my two older kids will love it.

I would say pretty good, if not price drop there would be gift card promotion. My local store have been running $50.00 gift cards for Kinect 250gb model for the last month or so. I also saw gift card for Kinect so I am thinking at least $25.00 price cut for Kinect by this holiday.

Turn 10's commitment to silky smooth 60fps framerate is exactly why I favor the FORZA series over the competition. Framerate in my opinion is the most important thing when developing a racing game.

On another note, what exactly are these "Car Clubs" everyone keeps talking about?

June the 10th..
Thanks to all for you kind words. I've been at Turn 10 for just under a year now and we have a great audio team here working hard to make the game sound as awesome as possible.
I'm hoping to do a more in-depth feature looking at the audio in Forza Motorsport 4 at some point in the near future, so you can see some of the great work we are doing here behind the scenes.
If you have any specific questions about the audio let me know and I'll do what I can to answer them in that feature.

Can you tell us if you have re-done/re-recorded any sounds for cars from Forza 1 to 3? Alot of them need your magic
Hi Nick, I would love to know also if this time around the exhaust sounds will change if you do engine work or add an after market exhaust system?
I really hope you used your magic touch on the BOV/Dump valve sounds, as these have always been a massive disappointment
Can you tell us if there is gonna be a change in exhaust note when we upgrade the exhaust system, like there was in Forza Motorsport 2
Are you guys going to include crackling/popping sounds when downshfting?
Ok, first I have to chime in and say....PLEASE make the exhaust notes change with upgrade please please please.........
Could you tell us how the sounds have improved over Forza 3?
Will there be big external wastegate sounds in FM4?
I just want to know why Turn 10 can't tell us if the "change in exhaust-note feature" is back in the game or not!

Turn 10 better have a good defense for this one or they are going to get hammered and i'll be the first one there with MY trusty sledge hammer.
For the sake of all things sideways, please answer us regarding this feature of "sounds changing depending on upgrades". If you are holding back the disappointing news, then don't. Just give it to us now when most are deflated..

It's a feature that was in the original Forza Motorsport but was dropped for 2&3.
You can think of it as a racing game clan.
In FM4, you'll be able to share cars (while still being able to use them unlike GT5...), tune or paint shared cars from other players. Essentially, you can create a nice team where everyone does something.

Gutted no weather or night etc. But I'd rather 60FPS over anything else to be honest.

Shall we take bets then? We still get the shitty compression upload pics through FM.net? If T10 do indeed listen, then I can imagine this is what they would have heard people repeatedly complaining about in F3.

C'mon DEMO, where are you!

actually focal distance changing when accelerating/braking in chase cam.
No idea if it's still in the game or they scrapped it though, i don't think it really fits the game but if it's optional it can't hurt.

Also, no idea about the bloom explosion when you crash in cockpit view, that was only in top gear's event build afaik (and it looked stupid imho)

If Turn 10 listen we'd have Spa instead of Hockenheim.

I guess at the end of the day it's Dan's game and he can do whatever the fuck he wants with it. Shitty compression, muscle boats, flat boring tracks, Nissan Leafs, car soccer, hoppers...

I HATE FORZA!

(I love Forza).

Can we at least stop blaming che for F3 misdirection!? It's clear it goes much deeper than just the community manager!!

I think pretty decent. A lot of retailers are running $50 GC w/ 4gb model and some are running $75 off of the 250gb model (Amazon was running that a couple days ago but they've sold out of 250gb's now)

I think the best part of this is club+rivals mode. For example Yori could tune a car and have a rivals challenge for club where everyone uses that car. So not everyone has to buy the car or tune it which makes the challenges more accessible to everyone.

Assuming it works this way*

So basically its a clan system for FORZA 4, which is what I was thinking. Just wanted to make sure, thanks.

edit: I also found a more comprehensive guide via Google. The only thing it doesn't appear to answer for me, is if you can be a member of multiple clubs?

I haven't seen any misdirection. Just people who over analyze every last pixel of every last photo or video to come to their own hopes and conclusions, only to get bent out of shape when stuff actually gets announced.

That latest Under the Hood article seems like it was written especially for the people in this thread that were clamoring for technical details. Great stuff, and I'm glad they are sharing in this capacity.

The only thing I really hoped Forza 4 would deliver on has been dealt with, the physics.

Now just give me the demo so I can test it out for myself.
