The old Samsung I got is 4K but only 60Hz and from the year 2016. I need something better. Also, it's dead, so there's that.
No, you don’t.

It’s dead? Oh…

Get LG C series or G series, C series is cheaper I think. That’s it, you’re done.

STOP SPENDING MONEY!

I'd go for a LG evo 65" G3 (~$2300); it's the best option under $2500 for an MLA panel and there'll be change for some games.

I'm also looking to upgrade my TV this year.

Have been a fan of TCL for the value its products offered. Tempted to their QM8.

The mini-led flagship has fairly good reviews on rtings.com

Any GAF have insights on this TV?

If you are primarily gaming you should take burn in seriously

Most OLEDs don't need you to worry about burn in unless you afk on super bright areas and don't move for hundreds of hours. Which, if you are primarily gaming, should never be the case. Even with things like menu items and minimaps, you are constantly going in and out of menus in most games so you should be fine.

I know multiple real OLED TV owners who have burn in from gaming

One of them is a father and his son plays Fortnite all the time, you try being a father and tell your son he can't play any more Fortnite because he's burning the UI into the TV

At your budget, definitely get at least 65 inch TV. LG G3 if you can find one in your price range (note: does not come with stand), if not then there is LG C3
Also something besides simping for LG I'd like to point out that Samsung S90C QD-OLED should be in same price tier as C3.

Plenty large but you said earlier 75" is too much.

Also, everyone says the LG but what about the Samsung and Sony ones? RTINGS has them as the top two best TVs.

https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/best/by-usage/video-gaming

The Sony X93L/CL or the Samsung S90 more specifically.
C3 and A80L use the same panel, just different processing. Same with the S90C/S95C and A95L QD-OLED TVs.

If you’re primarily using it for games I’d recommend the S95C. I personally wouldn’t recommend any mini LED in that price range over the OLEDs.

Get the 65” A95L if you can find it on sale at or under $3k, especially if you plan on watching HDR TV or movies. I own this one and it’s phenomenal.

G4 would also be a safe bet.

Woled/qd Oled would be the easy choice but if you play a lot of 30fps content, I'd actually think twice. (The latest models may handle low foos content better though).
So you can either go with the S95C/G3 if you want an Oled or the Qn900C 👍

I'm in the same boat. Currently rocking a Sony X930E/XE9305 from 2017. It's still pretty great, but of course just 60hz with no VRR. And although it was a really good LCD seven years ago I know better image quality can be had these days.

LG seems like the obvious choice for getting great gaming IQ at good value, but how is the OS experience etc on those? The thing is that I really enjoy Android/Google TV. Pretty much every app I'd ever need is there, and in the rare case something isn't I can just cast. So that's a Sony advantage I think LG can't quite match? I know people will tell me to just get an external streaming box because smart TVs suck anyway, but I don't actually agree. Good smart TVs don't suck, and having everything in one place and controlled by the same remote is quite convenient. And because my entire setup except for my Switch is Sony (TV, receiver, console) stuff like HDMI-CEC works great, which I know isn't always the case if you mix different brands. Also, the movie viewing experience is typically better on the best Sonys. But they are also A LOT more expensive.

not really. If you vary content, you won’t have an issue. I’ve never even cared to think about it in having a 2018 oled, kids use it constantly, but yes, it’s not only Fortnite for 12 hours+ a day, it’s a variety of games, tv shows, movies, etc. zero burn in. Tested just recently with the colour tests. I haven’t heard of anyone in the last few years that have oled burn in. I’m sure it can happen, but I think you have to really work at it.

I would not buy an OLED aside from MLA or QD-OLED gen 2 panels. Those ones have much better brightness.

Thanks for the input. Does this matter even if it’s dark room only?

Higher brightness is better obviously but both QD-Oled and MLA have this amazing flaw to almost no one talks about (timestamped):

You need to be in the pure dark room to see true black (any amount of light will lift it), this is ridiculous - one of the biggest OLED advantages is gone. Standard WOLED for life!

Bumping this thread to officially announce I will be upgrading to QD OLED to unleash the full potential of the PS5 Pro. Gaiff Gaiff have you settled on a TV yet or are you on the fence on even getting Pro?
JJof73j.png

Obviously, that’s in CAD.

I want the Samsung S90C, which is apparently the best consumer grade gaming TV on the market. Missed a huge sale twice, but I’ll get it right around Black Friday. QDOLED, of course.

What are you getting?

S90D as well! I'm also waiting for black Friday sale.

I wanted to go for the S90D (was about to say D but that sounds gay), but I've heard that, unlike the S90C, there are WOLED and QDOLED panels and that it's pure luck of the draw as to which one you get, so you might end up with a worse TV than an S90C despite paying more.

From my understanding the 55" version (which is what im getting) is QD OLED but yeah I will definitely confirm before I pull the trigger. The ambiguity and confusion is so ridiculous.

Always gotta be careful, yeah. I want the 65".TV manufacturers often do these sneaky little rat moves that catch you off-guard.

You know how lcd fanboys say don’t buy Oled because of burn in? Well today I join them partially. I’ve owned several woled from LH and own a g3 & g4. However, I’d also strongly advise against buying QD-Oled. The tech is not ready and you will get burn in. Not might, will. My QD-Oled monitor from Dell got burn in after a year. Got it replaced and it looks like there may be signs of burn in again…. Feel free to get WOled from LG and Sony. I’ve used them since the C8 with no burn in. To get burn in this quickly on QD-Oled was surprising to me. Needless to say, I’m not buying any QD Oled stuff for a long time.

Tcl c855k looks great if not wanting to go oled. I have a lg cx and the last model of the c855k (c845k) it's very good and the newer model seems to be a good step ahead. Very good for the price with the features they have.

Hey just chiming in here, it's not luck of the draw, you just need to inspect the model number of the TV before you buy. Yes, some regions have different models and yes, there is a WOLED and QD-OLED version of the same TV but if you use this guide below, you can make an informed choice:

S90D Models:
QA83S90DAEXXY
QA77S90DAEXXY
QA65S90DAWXXY
QA55S90DAWXXY

WX=QD-OLED
EX=WOLED

I hope that helps, I just bought an S90D last week but only after I confirmed the model number was QD-OLED.

Happy TV buying!

I think I've read that can only happen with screen sizes bigger than 65 inches.

Got a 65” last year, I deeply regret not going for a 77”. This year there are premium models that are even bigger. That’s my advice.

So you just called them before they shipped TV? Because I was planning on ordering online. The nearest store from which I’m buying isn’t all that close if I wanna go in person.

Yeah, but 77" is a whole other price class. My previous one was 55", so 65" is a huge upgrade. 77" sounds like overkill.

That’s the mentality that left me with part of my field of vision having wall instead of pixels. Waking every morning to see that 65” owner face in the mirror every day. Wondering why do I even live for. Don’t repeat my mistakes and go the extra mile. If you can afford 2K you can afford 4K.

I highly recommend the Hisense U8N series. I bought an 85" from Best Buy for $2,000 plus tax. The picture is amazing, and the blacks are almost on par with OLEDs. I'm super impressed with the TV especially considering the price point.

The only downside that I can come up with is that it only has two HDMI ports capable of 4K/120Hz. There's an easy fix for that though, get a splitter that's capable of passing 4K120 and you're good to go.

My LG C2 is starting to have issues with the HDMI ports (1 basically doesn't work and the picture flickers and distorts with every device and cable I use and the other seems to have an issue if I push anything above 4k/60.

This is the tv I thought about getting instead. Our living room is quite bright and I really don't like closing up the blinds/curtains as I enjoy natural light so I figure mini LED is probably the way to go.

That really sucks. I've had my AW3423DWF for over 2 years now and use it extensively every day and still no sign of burn-in. It's kind of hard to go back to LCD after experiencing OLED.

To me, the biggest advantage of OLED isn't even in the perfect blacks or instant response time, it's with the motion clarity. Compared to OLED, playing on my old LCDs makes it feel like motion blur is always turned on and I hate motion blur.

Oh for sure. I’m not buying lcd ever again either. I’m just going to stick with WOleds from LG and Sony until something better comes out. At least with the G series from LG, you have a 5 year panel warranty. That gives serious peace of mind

The U8N is bright as fuck. I also have an LG C1 and the brightness is night and day (yes the pun was absolutely intended because that's how bright the U8N is).

Got a 65" A95L earlier this year and omg it pisses over everything. Viewing decent 4K stuff it's unrivalled, same with upscaling lower quality stuff. Please ignore the ridiculous way supposed experts like John 'Three Chins' Linneman off DF obsesses over LG. The fool bought a 77" G4 and it's not even close to the A95L in anything except the extra HDMI 2.1 sockets. The image quality and processing is miles away.

Get yourself an A95L. And if you can't afford it, save up until you can.

This is a great advice, Gaiff. But don’t listen to the 65” part.

For me, the model number was listed on the retailers website. I assume it's the same for your retailer, maybe you could post the link here and I could check?
