Gamespy's #1 prediction for 2005: Nintendo will become cool again!

Okay, so if it's not about Nintendo, then it has to be whatever the hand-weapon in Halo 2 is called. It's very easily identifiable... and I imagine it's been put through many heads...

So, prediction #2:

Bungie leaves MS for Nintendo (even though MS owns, them, don't they? I might be off here).

Yeah they basically are microsoft. But if they could, why would they leave for Nintendo? :lol

Like Final Fantasy 7 was already confirmed for Nintendo64, right?

Considering Itagaki was the one who said it was coming to the XBOX2 in an interview last year, that's about as confirmed as it can get. Most think it will be a launch title for the new system.

They say the Mushroom Kingdom,
Let's see it!
Mario!
Master G!
Heeeeyyy!
Mario's got the moves yo!
He's got the skills to bring you the chills!
Master G gots the tunes!
Mario with the slam!
Luigi making a statement!
Peach Basket Peach is in the house!
Mario!
Bringing the heat to the hoop!

I'm sure it's a general type of weapon, not a specific one. Are there any game companies that have a weapon for a name or logo or anything? Team Ninja is the closest thing I can think of.

I was just trying to think of scenario that didn't involve Nintendo...

so I thought of the Halo 2 weapon... which led to Bungie... and so I had to had them leave MS... and go to someone else... and Nintendo popped into my head... so I guess I failed at what I was originally trying to do...

That said,

Goodnight!

Microsoft owns Bungie so that's not going to happen.

hahaha @ Rare comment... seriously, they are either working on a LOT of XBOX2 software, or they are in dire need of an efficiency expert...

Everytime I see the word "defected" in this thread I unintentionally read it as "deficated" for whatever reason. It does make this thread approximately 10 times funnier though.

skip posted this in the GMR review thread:

there's an interview with itagaki about doa4. in response to a question about doa4 and XB2:

"Xbox 2? We haven't officially said anything about DOA4 being on Xbox 2, so please relax. What I can tell you now is that the advancement on DOA4 will be as dramatic as DOA2's evolution from DOA."

This is about Silicon Knights joining the MGS-ranks. That ugly sword of theirs is easily recognisable, they would've transferred from Nintendo to Microsoft and Gamespy could easily know of this deal, now that they're with IGN.

Only problem with this logic is that it's clearly not as big as Square joining Nintendo or Rockstar taking GTA tot Xbox2 exclusively.

I think the thing that would impact the industry the most in terms of a publisher defecting would be Square-Enix to MS. If that happened, next-gen would be hilarious.

I don't think it's Square-Enix going anywhere because they're mentioned in the story as an example... and Sony is still an investor right? Although the mention might be intentional...

I don't think it's Silicon Knights because it sounds like they're going multi-platform, not exclusive to another....

This must be someone else. I want it to surprise me too!

Roll on E3!

Sega, Nintendo exclusive, with several Sonic-Mario crossover titles including racing, fighting, and platforming games.

All he does here is praise Microsoft and the XBOX.

Here is an article of Tecmo's President praising Microsoft and the XBOX2, while putting down Sony:

http://xbox.ign.com/articles/567/567600p1.html

Here Itagaki talks nothing but DOA 4 and Team Ninja's up and coming titles for the XBOX2:

http://xbox.ign.com/articles/569/569953p1.html

Sorry but Team Ninja will remain one of Microsoft's main 2nd party developers.

I'm betting $10 that Square-Enix launches FF13 exclusive on Xenon.
And I'm betting $0 (because it's so obvious) that GTA:NeXt will launch exclusive on Xenon.

No other company but MS got the bucks to make it true.
Come next-gen people will hate them even more :)

I think it's pretty obvious, if you just think of the word weapon in general; what console-exclusive series is more about weapons than Ratchet and Clank? I know Sony owns Naughty Dog, but do they own Insomniac?

Though to me, logic says that he gave an example of a big franchise going to Nintendo and a big franchise going to Microsoft, so the real deal would assumedly be something going to Sony. But to be honest I can't think of any third parties of that level that are typically thought of specifically in either of the other two's camp, other than perhaps Team Ninja. And I really can't imagine Nintendo letting any of their franchises go, or even moreso MS letting go of Halo.

I have a feeling that Square Enix will be cooling things down with Sony after the PS2. They've seen some really rough treatment this gen.

To be a '2nd party' the 1st party has to have part ownership or some sort of permanent investment of some kind.

Like when Nintendo owned 49% of Square or 49% of Rare - they were second party.
Retro is wholly owned, so they are considered a subsidiary of Nintendo - they are first party.

I don't believe that Microsoft ever made any permanent investments into Tecmo and they certainly didn't outright purchase them, so Tecmo is indeed a third party.

Second parties don't release for any consoles other than ones made by their first party - so Tecmo wouldn't be releasing games for Sony if they were second party to MS.

Just wanted to clarify that for you.

I agree. Remember how angry Sony was when they found out about FF:CC for Gamecube? They called Square-Enix to a meeting to discuss their actions. They treated Square-Enix as if they owned them, which they most certainly do not. Square-Enix has slowly been warming up to Nintendo. Regardless of defections, Square-Enix will figure promininently with Nintendo on DS at the very least.

Who do you think they'd go with? Microsoft sounds likely.

I thought a 2nd party developer was a 3rd party developer who only made games for a certain system.

Of course I'm sure Microsoft pays Team Ninja plenty to stay on their system.

a microsoft/square partnership almost makes as much sense as microsoft/nintendo.

well im not sure what square would get out of it except releasing the first great next-gen game and a ton of cash.

it would justify microsofts confidence for next-gen and their boldness to release late 2005.

i dont play square games but id love to see it happen just to see what people here would say.

My sources have given me an idea of who will be leaving who, but I can't really say right now. I'm pretty sure I'd get an easily identifiable weapon through the head. (Perhaps that's a hint.)

To me that screams SOURRRR CARIBAHHHH!!!!

MS could offer them plenty and convince them that this would be the way to go and that Sony is on the way out. Sort of a self-fulfilling prophecy, too. S + E got every Japanese developer to switch platforms before, they can probably do it again. The Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts brands will do a lot to bring a new audience to the system in the west as well.

Hm. Well Namco has been somewhat buddy-buddy with Nintendo lately. A "defection" though, would mean going away from their current position. Namco to MS would be the only one that makes sense, I suppose.

eastside49er said:
Doesn't Sony own like 20% of Square or did they lose it when Square merged with Enix?

I think it was less than 10% after the merger.

Yeah Namco exclusive on revolution. That would help Nintendo become "cool" again too. Tekken, Soul calibur, Ridge Racer all exclusive. :D But not likely

Clearly he's talking about a company leaving one console partner for another, not individuals.

Exactly.

It's pretty obvious aswell. Square-Enix are returning exclusive to Nintendo. Think about it.....

Let's nitpick and over-analyze this.

Gamespy only mentioned examples WITHOUT Nintendo in it, so that must mean that the defect has something to do with Nintendo!
