Gaming TV that won't break the bank? Maybe an OLED?

All this BS about tariffs, I've started to think about getting a new TV that has some of the features I wished my had before they jump in price even more. Mostly I want something with 120hz, especially since Switch 2 seems to support it as well.

OLED would be nice, but it always seems like that immediately makes the price of any TV jump up considerably. I can look up TVs all day, but I can never really decide simply by specs, because sometimes specs don't always equal good quality, so I'm forced to ask for advice.

I did go to Best Buy and looked, and they showed me an LG OLED that was about $1000 for 55 inch, or $1200 for 65 inch. It looked nice I supposed, but...I dunno, I'm yasui (cheap), I wanna make sure I look at all my options before jumping. I always get nervous when things pass that $1000 mark.

You don't need to get the latest LG OLED. I have the C1 55" and it's still excellent. I'm nuuka (frugal), but I don't put my money on trash. I can buy something cheaper, but it still has to be very good. So just make sure you get something that fits your budget, but also makes you happy.

OLED isn't ideal for gaming because of frame rate issues, and burn-in. Plus OLED tvs are rather expensive, so if you are after a gaming tv, get a QLED tv with 2.2 HDMI ports for the best performance you can get out of a current gen console.

What size and price range are you wanting?
Size isn't super important. Im using a 55 inch right now, but ya know...bigger is always nicer, but as long as the picture looks good, that's what's important.

Since some of the other people were talking about OLED not being good for gaming now, I'm so confused. People seem to orgasm over OLEDs all the time on here.

What's most important is having a good refresh rate, and response time I suppose.

You'll hear people talk about OLED being bad because 30fps looks pretty rough on an OLED.

If it was me I would either buy a LG OLED or a Hisense U8. The U8 is probably around $700 for a 55. You're gonna get people shitting on Hisense, but for the price the U8 or even the U7 is unbeatable. They also get stupid bright with the U8 (at least the 65" version) getting into the 3000 nits range.

I was browsing Best Buy's site, and spotted a Hisense QLED for only $550 for a 75 inch that says it has a native 144hz display. I was thinking of going to actual store to look at the quality. I'll take a look at the U8 when I'm there.

I personally have no problem with Hisense, because that's what my current TV is, and I've been perfectly happy with the picture...I just want that damn 120hz >_< being stuck with 60hz only is driving me nuts.

$1200 for a 65 inch OLED just a few years ago was considered an absolute STEAL.

The cost of TVs might go up a lot when you jump to OLED but so does the viewing experience.

It's well worth it.

ONLY an oled. LCD never more for me.
I would go for lg c4 RIGHT NOW.

C5 is about to release so c4 is very cheap nowadays.
LG is amazing, basically no burn out too. I believe in woled.

Check out a QM7 65" or 55". Not as vibrant as an OLED, but damn close with a super clear picture and up to 120Hz on two HDMI 2.2 ports.

LG B4 should look great and cover all the bases with hdmi 2.1/120hz support, but doesn't get super bright. LCD can be less expensive and brighter but I think the OLED contrast is worth the premium.

Sony Bravia 7. Hands down. No burn-in risk. 2000 nits peak brightness and the fancy stuff that one needs to enjoy gaming. 120htz, VRR and so on. Less than 2000 bucks.

IMO, if you are not worried about off angle viewing, the Hisense U8 is a great TV with some deep blacks for an LCD. If you are more worried about off angle viewing, and you play in a darker space, the B4 would be a great option. This is probably the OLED they showed you at BB.

If you are not in a rush, just be patient and watch for deals.

Ever since buying an LG OLED E8 I'll never go back to LCD or QLED unless it's for a specific reason.

I bought it in 2018 and it's still my main 4K display. It has zero burn in and I use it every single day.

It works beautifully and handles 60fps games incredibly well. If you want to play more games that are 30fps then go for an LCD or QLED.

I play my I9, 4090, 64GB PC on it and try to max out settings in games and lock the frame rate at 60fps. I also play my PS5 Pro on it and that looks incredible as well.

So if you can snag a newer OLED for around that $1,200 mark or under, you are going to rock and roll.

What sort of room are you going to be playing in? Is it bright? Because if it’s bright like my living room, or you prefer natural light during the day like I do a Mini LED like the U8 might be better then a OLED due to brightness.

I own a C2 OLED but I’ve actually thought about changing to the U8 since I like a bright space.

Frame rate issues? Burn in? Why is my C1 immune to these???

I have a C2 with about 6,000 hours that’s basically used as a full time monitor. Hundreds upon hundreds of hours with static HUD elements from games like Diablo and the like. No burn in.

I would never go back to anything not OLED. The black levels and instantaneous pixel response is a game changer.

Visuals are critical for an enjoyable gaming experience. I’d just buy an LG OLED C-whatever-is-cheapest and go with that,

Been using an OLED TV (LG G1) as monitor on my HTPC/gaming PC for 3+ years now. Intensive use, no issue.
Only real thing I did to preserve the panel is a black screen saver after 3min of inactivity.

i have a 75inch TCL, it's not oled and the picture for sure isnt as good, but its good enough and comes with all the features you would want, vrr 144hz, gsync etc

if i was too spend a bit more id go for mini led over oled, from what ive seen in stores side by side the picture is comparable to oled

I am a closet furry. Don't you judge me.
I bought my new TCL 65inch Mini LED for around $650 Great TV.

I do have a 48inch LG Oled B4 tv that is pretty good. Can be had for $599 during sales.

Consider open box or display units at Best Buy. I got an $800 tv for $190 and it was in great condition. It actually has VRR and some other cool features which I would never pay for at MSRP.

I ended up getting a Samsung 65" S85D series OLED. I was actually gonna get it new, cuz it was $999.99 at Best Buy, but like Kagoshima_Luke Kagoshima_Luke mentioned, I actually got an open box. They had one for $702. No remote, but I had one already.

Got an OLED after all, and I got my 120hz display. Trying out Monster Hunter Wilds 40 fps mode atm.

My pc can play MH wilds at 60 fps...sorta...but this 40 fps mode on ps5 pro looks a lot sharper than the game has looked on my pc or laptop but a huge margin.

Not a bad deal for a 65” seems like you got the features you wanted at a good price. This is probably just a return, but you may want to check the tv for signs of burn in just in case this was a store model. Congrats!

I don't know what your budget is but I can wholeheartedly recommend the LG C3 series. Beautiful OLED with 120hz, Gsync/Freesync, excellent response time, and 4 HDMI 2.1. Been using mine very heavily as a monitor for 2 years with no sign of burn in whatsoever.

It's a couple years old at this point so you can pick up a 65 for about 1200 bucks.

Nice! Wilds was the first game I tried on my new TV as well.

Picked up the Samsung s90d (something like that) 65 inch. Was going back and forth with the lg c4. From what I was reading c4 better for movies and Samsung better for gaming. Right or wrong my pro has been singing and I couldn’t be happier with purchase coming from an lcd.

Avoid LG because it's garbage
Samsung is garbage. Their software is awful and the sacks of shit sold a TV with one HDMI 2.1 port that was not the eARC one so they are terrible engineers across the board. The HDMI detection algorithm is dogshit and the fucking TV often switches out of HDR mode often leading to a lot of time wasted. They are so bad with their TV software I stopped buying their fucking phones.
