next-gen.biz has a new article based on NPD statistics:

What are the biggest selling genres for each platform? NPD has the answers.

Football is well represented by strong sales of EA's NCAA, while Xbox' Halo map pack boosts FPS in its rankings. Midnight Club 3's success means racing stays strong on PSP. Kirby and Mario are flying the flag for platform games on DS. Stats are for July 2005.

PlayStation 2

1. Football
2. General Action
3. Platform

Xbox

1. FPS
2. Football
3. General Action

GameCube

1. Platform
2. General action
3. RPG

GBA

they should compile one with LTD software sales instead of just one particular month, and a year by year stat would be helpful too.

WTF? RPGs on the GC? Am I missing something here? Wind Waker...um...has any other RPG sold in any significant quantities? PEACE.

Skies of Arcadia Legends!

PSO!

seriously, they mean Pokemon.

I don't know what the difference is, but I'll take a stab at it.

Driving Action is probably being classified as Twisted Metal since, while you are driving and it's heavy on action, there's no real racing.

Racing Action is probably Wipeout since it has combative aspects but is, at its core, a racing game.

Mere conjecture, mind you.

wind waker is not an RPG, but you have tales of symphonia, baten kaitos, paper mario 2, ff:cc, skies of arcadia,etc..

GC genre sales are totally skewed by Nintendo's strength in 1st party. It would look a lot more like PS2 and Xbox if you took Nintendo titles out of the equation.

FPS is third on the PSP, so coded arms outsold golf, basketball, baseball and puzzle games. Isn't coded arms the only FPS? I think something is wrong with these lists.

These stats are for July 2005 ONLY, which makes it rather worthless.

that makes it completely worthless. jesus. might have been somewhat interesting if it was based on all sales..

Notable RPG sales on the GC are Pokemon Colosseum, Tales of Symphonia, Skies of Arcadia, Evolution, probably Animal Crossing, Paper Mario 2, etc.
