Ghost of Yotei |OT| Jin there, done that

This game is a ton of fun so far and looks great in motion on pro mode. Only got to play a few hours last night though. Looking forward to deep diving this weekend.

20 hours in almost and I go to a dye vendor and I only have 1 of the 7 armors he has dyes for. How big is this game?! I am NOT complaining. This is one of the best games of all time and easily my GoTY already. I thought Cronos and Silent Hill f were good but this is another level for me.

Never said a female MC is a woke element, the ability to kill hundred of better trained and physcaly strong men on 1v1 combat is the woke element.
That's not woke. That's a video game. Virtually every video game out there (and a shit ton of movies and books as well) are beyond what is possible for anyone, no matter your gender or how good with a sword you are. Even Kingdom Come: Deliverance, a game that prides itself on historical accuracy, is an extreme power fantasy.

I'd go so far as to state this game is actually more believable than Tsushima was. A woman Ronin killing bandits in rural Hokkaido (especially after being a mercenary for almost two decades), is far more realistic than a single man turning back the Mongol invasion. The game even makes it pretty clear that a woman Ronin is extremely rare and you fight almost zero woman bandits or other woman Ronin.

I'm itching to play more, but work has buggered that up for the time being. Seeing as it's absolutely pissing it down outside, my weekend is going to consist of me watching football and playing GOY, with the occasional soggy dog walk.

No man can do that either. Theres always going to be someone more quick and better just as there can be a woman quicker and deadlier. History taught us that not always the big and strong win/survive. Skill/agility matters just as much. Also, video game. Also, not defending the game, I also dont like playing as a femboss, but lets not get ahead of ourselves. Jin wasn't big either, in fact both Jin and this chick have the same body type and Jin fought against massive Mongolians.

Storm Amy outside!

I just took the dog out and flew back home like mary poppins lmao

Picked up an automatic deflect skill when using heavy attacks with dual blades against spears right before meeting the yari master. Made that fight easy to say the least.

Man, al these flashbacks aren't working for me. Like, at all.

Also am I crazy or can you not sleep and fast forward time when camping?

There aren't many flashbacks past the beginning, and yes you can sleep, you just need to interact with the horse..

Wtf lol I'm the first to shit on woke stuff but you're absolutely reaching here. Stellar blade was celebrated for its heroine, a hot babe almost naked, defeating things more threatening than in this game lol

The game makes it even more clear after the first 'boss' fight which is in the what, first 15 minutes of the game? Atsu isn't just a normal girl anymore

Only just started the game so it's very early for me to form any solid opinions but I think I am going to like it. The only thing that I find funny though is your voice in the flashbacks. Literally sounds like a tranny or a guy trying to do a little girl voice omfg :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I'm not defending his case at all but stellar blade protagonass™ wasn't human so you can't really apply human laws.

Refer to my post above, Atsu isn't normal either.
Advanced fighter cyborg is still light years different from the toughest chick on the planet unless we are going into supernatural stuff that i hope the game doesn't touch
althought the snake kill kinda hint to some weird shanenigans...

I'll add spoiler tags but this is all in the first 15 minutes of the game:

In the intro she states her mission is to kill the 6 then she'll join her family in death

After the kill Snake, they made it somewhat clear that she died and was brought back

People called her a ghost as well

It's pretty obvious what's going on here, a bit too obvious, I kind of hope it'll be something else or the ending is already figured

Just played the first hour or so, and man, it's so much better than I thought. It's way ahead of Tsushima in all areas. The cinematography and sequence direction are a major highlight.

There was theories around Tsushima that....

Jin is already dead so you play the game as a literal Ghost backed up by the Legends mode. So the 'Ghost of' stories are kinda like The Crow

It may be just symbolism dude, they called jin a ghost aswell and he suffered big injuries aswell and then he healed, that could be considered like a symbolic death and reborn stuff, i don't think they are going with the supernatural angle but with the yakuza tough angle where kiryu get fucked by guns and other big injuries but he scoff everything off, not sure if this angle is good for a somehow more realistic story with a woman, kiryu is kinda of superman in the yukuza lore basically.

i think she said that she is gonna kil herself after killing the 6 because she feels responsible for bringing saito to his father home, she want to punish herself.
For now the biggest hint of supernatural is her kinda ignoring the snake trapassing her with his sword, the game doesn't seem to explain what happen after that and if she had to stay put for a couple of month to heal or not, it feel lile she is immediately ok after that injury

It's all a bit strange but i hope she is not a real ghost, it would immensively lower the stakes if she can't die, i would hate that.

We'll see but

I definitely think she's a vengeance spirit and once the 6 are dead she'll just rest in peace with her family

Jin is confirmed to be the very first shinobi, now that's badass.
But also sad that the shogun has seemingly wiped all traces of him in the history books...

I actually would like that. BUT, I don't think that's the case.

Overall, game is very competent. Everything feels snappy and fun. I like it alot.

THAT said, some of the writing is really pedestrian. And, its hard for me to get on board with the female MC. Everything about this game screams of the lone samurai, lone cowboy, on the open fields, battling their inner demons as long as the outward foe. They switched the MC to female, but, so far, have written her totally as a man (but, somehow less tortured), and just made the character look female. I'm still early on, maybe that changes. I hope so.

Im all for female MC's if, in fact, the game recognizes that females approach things differently than males. (Think Ripley, think Sarah Conner). They were strong, kick ass MCs, but were decidedly feminine.

Bojji Bojji I can confirm that the in-game model is not being swapped on engaging photo mode. They are all identical. Also did a few RTGI tests without even going to photo mode:

br5B3K6YTuj4kRHx.png

This above shot showed the biggest difference below (pro quality mode vs RT Pro). In addition to the interior and model lighting differences, notice how even the lighting of exterior patches look brighter when standing in a shaded area (shot was about a second apart):

DKW1nHtds9ZtDH60.gif

A more subtle example below. Aside from what DF/NX Gamer showed, notice changes in lighting on her clothes. It's drastic enough on her clothes that despite the 4k texture detail, quality mode looks too flat and harsh, like her clothes are missing sub surface scattering (though it's really just the light bounce making the difference). Also fixes the weird glow/leak in her left eye.

Field tests:

Biggest difference on Atsu's back and Shamisen. Getting lit properly without flat shadow.

03nzDjBoohuBkf97.gif

A more dramatic effect on horse. Notice how the quality mode is slightly brighter outside (a few seconds apart in my shot), yet the horse has much darker and flat shadows. With RT pro, the horse lights up so beautifully as the whites reflect it so much. Also shout out to the fantastic texture work on the saddle. You can see how light behaves differently on the stirrups (footrest) as well

Am51C8SLTKyKiSq3.gif

Not seeing noticeable change to the foliage itself when it's directly lit. Though I do see fog often behaving differently (reflect light more and blooms out). Need to test that more to be sure I'm not imagining it.

And the last comparison is of our favorite rock texture. I'm still in the opening area of the game, but it's not actually as bad as we thought it would be. Decent texture detail. RTGI softens up the flat, harsh shadows of quality mode quite nicely as well.

And one bonus shot of a thatched roof on RT Pro as that was apparently an exciting debate on that other graphics showdown thread:

More NPC testing tonight as I'm still way too early in the game. I'm so obsessed with photo mode that I'm yet to even start any main or side quest. Lol.

Its a shame that RT doesn't seem to apply to npcs and other characters.

This is fighting for my number 2 spot over Cronos now. Clair 33 is obviously locked as my GOTY with only ninja gaiden 4 possibly knocking it off.

This is better than GOT in every way and a very well paced open world game compared to its counterparts so far. I fell off AC Shadows after 20 some hours. Hoping this will make it to completion. Seems doable since this does let you focus story when you want whereas AC had me stuck doing shit I don't want to do it I wanted to progress.

there are clearly 2 types of people in this thread currently.

The ones that play the game and talk about it and the ones that talk about it.

It does apply, but the NPC models are significantly lower quality compared to Atsu and the horse with regard to textures, sub surface scattering etc., so the effect is much more subtle. I'll have more tests done tonight, but this was from an older test from a compressed youtube video. Notice how the closest NPC face, arms, and armor on bottom right reacts to the moonlight.

And this one is pretty obvious. The shadows even take a red hue from the cloth
