I don't know, sorry.

looks like you have done more in that place than I did!
I thought I was done with that area; now I have to go back and see what I missed.

Well, crap sorry if I spoiled anything for you. Literally the only reason I looked deeper into it is because of the QL.
I noticed in the QL that one of the pots, or vases was lifted up for some reason and they didn't notice it so when I went to that area I noticed the one that stood up was different for me.

edit: that said that probably wouldn't have worked for what reparmanjack just said and i probably am just going to stop clicking shit now wut!

real edit: oh this was a new post sorry

Yeah, didn't think at all it would have been bad. I was thinking it was so early and so obvious that most would have looked into it and thought I was just being dumb not getting it.

You seem to always go out of your way to get offended by stuff Dan says.

Also, isn't Don Draper a sociopath?

You seem to go out of your way to get offended at my opinions of Dan.

See how easy that is?

And no. If that's your read of Don as a character you're reading very shallowly. More to the point, it upsets me that Dan will say something like that while being completely oblivious about the shitty, ignorant shit he says frequently. Perpetuating the lie that America is a good country, whether a joke or not, is offensive because it's wrong and reflective of real-world attitudes of many Americans that are part of why nothing ever gets solved there. Saying "Don is a sociopath, you shouldn't idolize him" while idolizing the USA is so deeply fucking ironic and shows a complete lack of self-awareness. I don't care if it's a shtick.

I asked this in the Rise of the Tomb Raider thread last week and got ignored so I figured I'd ask here and hope someone can answer:

I was thinking of picking up Rise of the Tomb Raider, but decided to play the first one since I hadn't yet. I hated it for about the first hour until you finally start encountering enemies and was having a lot of fun with it, mostly enjoying shooting enemies with arrows. As it goes on though, I've become very frustrated with it in general. The story is awful and is going by at breakneck speed with no real emotion and terrible characters. The entire torture porn aspect is a major turn off and seems very out of place and completely unnecessary. You can't go 20 minutes without her falling through a floor or having the shit beat out of her by the environment. The combat was fun until it starts just putting you in these situations where it's throwing 20 enemies at you. The whole game to me just feels like they decided "Let's make Uncharted but it's going to be HARDCORE!!!!"

I want to play Rise of the Tomb Raider, but having stopped half way through TR, does the sequel fix enough of the previous games problems? I know that there's more focus on actual tombs and the world seems a little more open with different ways to attack situations, but does it shed its bullshit from the previous game? I know Jeff hated the first one too, but I've also read some things about how garbage the ending battle is and that there are still enemy encounters with floods of enemies coming at you.

that's honestly not that bad, those things really stand out

i always thought there had to be more to them

i'm almost glad it's confirmed

Noticing the difference from the quick look was a big WTF moment and then about 10 minutes later figuring out what does it was a big Oh Shit moment. Probably not that big of an a-ha moment but the way I found out was funny.

I got to a weird point in The Witness last night where I couldn't find any puzzles I knew how to solve. Everything I'm finding has some aspect I haven't seen before, and they aren't simple enough for me to suss it out.

so in the Pink Tree area of the Witness, I...
figured out what to do but had to eventually just brute force the last one and even with the answer I'm not why it was the on it was... there was no apple and I can't see anything particular about the branch so... eh?

The path you need to follow is white on the tree.

Look, I think it's simple really.

Voice your opinions about a staffer, but don't be a dick about it. If you try to be halfway constructive it's probably fine? Dan especially seems to have the capacity and willingness to change.

Don't try to shut down people's opinions voiced about things relating to the side like a dick, unless they're being dicks about it.

i.e don't be dicks on the internet.

Also I don't think it's wrong personally to love one's own country. Be self-conscious about it's past/present atrocities because very few countries have a clean history, but whatever, you have a right to love the place you are born in.

I need a "just take me to the fucking tutorial already" button in that game. I don't mind bouncing off of puzzles I can't solve but I've seen about 5 or 6 complex puzzles with colored stars and still haven't found the tutorial area for that particular clue.

If you look close enough and count the branches the number of branches and number of ends doesn't add up. If you look close enough you can see where one of the branches is broken off. Also if you look by the gate it unlocks there is a broken branch and an apple cut into pieces. The broken branch is the correct end. I got it wrong twice and then started looking around and happened to see the apple cut up and a broken branch.

I disliked Rise of The Tomb Raider, I thought that it had a lot of the same problems as the first. I'm also in the minority and most people seem to love it.

Ah okay...a lot of people seemed to like that first game too, but the flaws to me greatly out weigh its strengths. Also, her jumping is weird.

Is Giant Bomb using youtube now for their videos on the website?

They were always supposed to, but there were backend problems that prevented the simultaneous uploading. Only the free videos go up on youtube.

Also I know the Witness topic is a problem but can we not just turn this into the secondary Witness topic?

TR reboot was kind of a bad game in a lot of ways, but it got the action right. which is amusingly not what most people want from TR.

it's less that the torture porn stuff "wasn't for everybody" and more that it was really out of place and usually totally uncalled for.

though that really gross underground area was fucking rad. and I'm still standing by my "possible best shotgun of the last 10 years" statement

yep, I don't mind people talking about what the crew thinks of Witness but stop talking about specific puzzles. do that in OT or something.

Also fuck me the checkpointing system in dragon's dogma is brutal.

I've quit the game multiple times for exactly this reason. and it lets you save anywhere but it's the slowest of slow saves so I just reflexively avoid it.

and then you fall 5 feet to your death and curse the skies

Yep, totally. I feel like I missed a puzzle that would have introduced me to a new element, and now I'm banging my head against the more complex versions without any idea what I'm supposed to do. I like the open nature of the world, but situations like this are really detrimental to the experience.

Ooooooh yeah I saw
the apple but not the branch, I'd stopped counting the total branches by then too... Interesting...
Thanks!

Like it's mostly my fault for being a dumbass really but I went through
Everfall
without really engaging in the pawn stuff, reached the end and cannot beat it. Realised that it's because the pawns I've hired are like triple the level too low for the quest, and it autosaves once the final fight starts and ugh...

If you're getting that it probably means you're in one of the areas that's only the more difficult puzzles that combines multiple puzzle types. Just go to a different area and you should find a new puzzle type that starts with the tutorial puzzles for that area.

I got to the point in the game where if I feel I don't understand something I just walk away and keep walking around. I feel like there is so much in the game that if I'm in an area I probably don't understand I'm probably not meant to be there yet. But I'm still super early so you may not have that many more places to go.

the first time you go there? the part at the very bottom? you're not supposed to fight those enemies, they infinitely respawn. just run like hell.

I killed several dozen of them before figuring that out.

I'm not very far in, so I'll just backtrack and figure out what I missed.

Well.

Shit.

And I just restarted the checkpoint that brings you all the way to the beginning of the quest and saved over it...

I almost burned out on the game focusing too hard on a puzzle I couldn't figure out. I ended up spending like an hour making no progress at all. Eventually I went off exploring and made a ton of progress elsewhere. It's hard to walk away from a puzzle though, even now I want to go back and bang my head against it some more.

That's what I was doing last night, blew an hour trying a puzzle I knew I shouldn't be attempting yet. Had to force myself to walk away from it.

Oh I definitely have that issue. The puzzle I posted about earlier is just stuck in my damn head and driving me insane. Any time I complete a string or go walking around I always go back to it for like 5 more minutes. I'm going to be obsessed until it's done.

I think discussion about a big game the duders are into the week of release is more appropriate than the pages and pages of anime talk that has nothing to do with anything.

Hey man, they talked about the sharingan in the darkest dungeon ql.

Anime is more relevant than ever!

And it all started when Austin joined the crew.

I thought Dragons Dogma saving was pretty fast. Start -> Select, doesn't take more than a couple seconds.

I mean I'm exaggerating a little, but when compared with just being able to hit F5, having to go into a pause menu to do it is kind of a hassle if you want to use it as a "quicksave" replacement. what's even dumber is that obviously the game has support for saving while you're playing (that's what the autosaves do) so not just giving you a key binding for save is dumb.

I'm still so early in the game but I feel like I've seen so much. The funny thing is the area that Jeff had the "Holy shit" moment in the QL is probably the area that gave me the biggest mind fuck vibes so far. But I've only even looked at like 4 areas in the damn game. This is going to take me months to complete.

I like talking about The Witness and yet don't want to talk about it? The actual thread for the game is a hot mess, and every time I go in there I see something I didn't want to see.

I'm in the same boat. I want to talk about the game but I don't want spoilers. And it's impossible to have a conversation about it. Sucks.
