Hey! Didn't Sony buy some shares in From Software's parent company? So it's more like this:

Yup, typical honeymoon period for a Sony title is 1-2 months then the people that actually played it come out in droves to tell everyone how it's all hype and the game is MEH to OK.
What games have this happened with?
Tbh the only games I’ve seen this happening recently are Halo Infinite and Elden Ring.

If Elden Ring and Tears of the Kingdom aren’t critically higher rated than GoW Ragnorok I’ll drink a pint of your cum.
I’ll gargle cum if Elden Ring gets a trailer. Maybe.
If God of War releases in June or July 2022 (or earlier) I’ll drink my own cum. If it doesn’t, will you?
Fine by me, I drink cum for breakfast.
Seriously going to cum in my pants when Halo is announced.

I am solely talking about the reviews here. It's not on ER level.

Look at this thread, filled with people that think 20-year-old overused and abused jim ryan laughing and kratos dancing gifs are awesome. It's the most casual crowd in gaming.

Don't get me wrong, I loved the first and can't wait to play this. But I was replying to people saying this is GOTY over ER just because of the scores, but that makes no sense because the scores are clearly below. We haven't even played God of War Ragnarok yet, maybe it is better, but let the game come out first.
Why it isn’t at ER level? Because it’s more polished and more beautiful and it doesn’t look like a launch ps4 game?

The only thing that was a letdown for me from the 2018 God Of War was the crazy boss fights and varied gruesome things you can do to enemies. Like removing helios’ head, gouging poseidons eyes, riding a cyclops to kill many enemies and then pulling out his eyeball, cutting through the half horse half man belly with his guts spilling out, does Ragnarok have more stuff like that?

GOW 2018 had too many of the same “kill the big giant that has a huge piece of wood” scenarios. More variations would be nice.

notes from the df article on PS5 modes

all modes use temporal upscaling to 4k btw

on average the performance mode is ~ 1800p locked 60 fps

"Quality mode renders at a full native 4K while performance mode instead uses dynamic resolution scaling ranging from 1440p up to 2160p. On average, pixel counts reveal that it spends most of its time around 1872p. What's new this time, however, is the inclusion of TAA with upsampling. This TAAU solution helps even lower pixel counts appear suitably 4K and as a result, image quality is greatly increased over the prior game. The two modes look very, very close."

or can unlock and get 1440p at ~ 80-90 fps average

"The high frame-rate mode basically removes the 60fps cap and bottoms out the resolution at 1440p, allowing the frame-rate to reach for 120 frames per second instead. The reality, however, is that we're mostly looking at a performance between 80 to 90 frames per second in most scenarios."

Loving the salty Losers acting like direct sequels are usually a big departure from the previous entries.

Just pretend this game is exclusive to your favorite plastic box and go masturbate to that fantasy.
But then it'd be a fundamentally different game - a PS5 game. Dare to dream??

I don't need a bigger departure than God of War 2 to God of War 3. That's what I'd expect, two years into the PS5's life. I get why people are annoyed that the games design is restricted by the PS4.

Still, glad to see generally great reception. God of War 2 is greatly improved over the very first God of War, so it's not like tech is everything....
But context matters, and Sony brought a lot of this on themselves, by simultaneously touting how they believe in generations, while releasing a PS4-designed game two years in to the PS5 cycle. That's poor messaging, no way around it. But more importantly, people just want games that take full advantage of the expensive console they were sold.

I loved Elden Ring but some of you anti-sony or Fromsoftware evangelist just gotta deal with the fact that Elden Ring is not gonna sweep GOTY awards this year, and it never was as long as God of War came out
Don’t start war when no war is needed, I’ve played nearly 350 hours of Elden Ring, it’s my #2 all-time favorite right now, if Ragnarök can surpass it then this year will go down in history as my favorite year ever in my 40 years as a gamer. Just celebrate! 2 legendary master pieces the same year! 🥳

NX Gamer talked about SSM using machine learning algorithms.

New upscaling technique switching from checkerboarding to TAA on all consoles that produces better results than the original 2018 game.

On PS5 they used machine learning alogritm to resample and up sample the texture detail, and another sharpening pass while the DRS is in use which makes it look better than the native 4k version. crazy.

This is straight from the devs. NX Gamer does no speculation or guessing here.

Main story bosses are more difficult and challenging this time around. Haven't tried crucible yet, but did try the new versions of "valykires" and some of them are very difficult. One of the fights right now that I an trying to perfect and not get hit on Give Me God of War is more challenging than one of the Valkyries from God of War 2018.

The formula and flow is similar, lots to do at the end after main story quest.
So would you say that overall ragnarock is harder?

I always find it more interesting when devs are innovating and looking for ways to maximize the hardware efficiently. I appreciate that more than just throwing a more powerful GPU, because it just seems wasteful.

But I thought PS5 was missing the machine learning button.

lol exactly. not too long ago, Souls fanboys were PS fanboys thanks to demon souls and bloodborne. The overlap in loyalty must be crazy.

this is going to be like House of Dragon. They are all the same family fucking each other and then trying to kill each other. For a GOTY award.

Cant wait. #TeamBlack
Elden Ring fans are fucking psychos though. They're going to roll through the God of War crowd like a hot knife through butter. They're fucking crazy.

It always bugged me because the second wired article way back in october 2019 had an EA exec confirm that they were using machine learning algorithms in their next gen games. Same article that confirmed there was ray tracing hardware in the PS5 but people continued to doubt ML even after that. This is before Road to the PS5 and a full year before the RDNA 2.0 reveal.

Anyway, I was going to play it in 4k but now ive changed my mind. Even John said it looks better in performance mode.

anyone want to join me in the FromSony Fanboy club? LFG lol

Finished ER and looking forward to finishing GOWR... GOTY? IDK who the fuck knows if you haven't played both... even then it's opinion, nothing more.

Elden Ring, Horizon Forbidden West, and Ragnarok, are easily my three favorite games this year. glad i got to play all of them

Also if you’re a sony fanboy you should be a from fanboy by default considering sony own a good percentage in them and published 3 exclusives from them in the last 7 years

Which performance mode specifically? I'm avoiding all videos of this game.
