GOG's #NoDRM Summer Sale [UP: Last day]

That massive thread by Mama Robotnik on the Kain series and this sale made it impossible for me to resist completing my collection of these games on PC.

That Ultima deal is amazing.

I also finally bought FTL.

That price is amazing for all those games. Totally worth it.

Well, if you want a DRM free copy you can install on any computer and all the extras go for GOG.

How are the games in the RPG Rarities Bundle?

I played Costume Quest and the expansion. Is a funny and simple RPG, battles are by turns and you only have three commands: Attack, Defend and Special Attack. You collect costumes that give you different skills in combat, and some of the skills also work for exploring the little maps.

The setting is charming and also the game has some humor. About the duration, is short, around ten hours.

Strictly speaking, it's only *really* complete if you've got Blood Omen knocking around :-)

(And then there's the matter of making it *run*...)

Yeah, not having Blood Omen (the best of the series) really makes me sad, so I just try to forget it.

Luckily I have the Ps1 disc version, and through PSN, so I have options.

I'm debating a few different things, because I don't want to spend more than $15. I could finish off my DnD bundle (mostly for Neverwinter Nights 2), or finish the Square bundle (mostly for Anachronox and Thief 3), or just go ahead and buy System Shock 2 alone. Or a mix of those.

EDIT: Bought SS2 and Anachronox.

*pant* *pant* Updated the first post. I'm gonna save the code to a Google Doc, there's no way I'm going to be doing that again any time soon. 46 daily deals, for Pete's sake (although, as previously noted, this will probably be the entirety of this sale's daily deals, for fill yer boots now).

Well, I finally caved on FTL. Kind of already regret it, I know it'll pup up in a humble bundle eventually. but $2.50? I can live with it.

Bought it on the developers website though. I think it's brilliant that whenever the game goes on sale, they also drop the price on their website too so that you can give all the money to them. I really wish all indies would do this.

Edit: Might be worth asking a mod to change the title for today? It's a pretty incredible day that deserves all the attention it can get.

FTL/Hotline Miami/Dyad/Sam & Max Save the World

This has been a rough day for my backlog (which I'm actually making great progress on) and it may get worse. Strike Suit Zero, Miasmata, and Don't Starve continue to call out to me.

FTL at least!
Is there a way to register it on Steam? Kinda like what they did with UNepic.

You can always just buy it on FTLgame.com - it's the same price there (for the same duration as the GOG sale, 21 hours left at this time) and comes with a DRM-free copy via the publisher as well as a Steam key.

I've never played any of the games in the Definitive Dungeons and Dragons bundle, but I was thinking of picking up the pack and trying them out.

Do you guys think they would hold up today to someone who has never played them??

i bought chaos on deponia as a steam daily a week or two ago. if i wanted to buy the bundle i can "gift" the entire order to a different email address and just redeem every game except that one, correct? then give that game away?

or is the "gift order" all the games bundled?

I tried this with the D&D bundle a few days back. The gift code was for the entire bundle, you won't get codes for each game.

Yes, yes and yes.

Also, yes.

That bundle contains some of the finest RPGs ever made. And, admittedly, some forgettable ones, but a good chunk of it is pure unadulterated awesome.

Before I pull the trigger on Wing Commander IV, is there a WC game more well-suited to a genre beginner that I should buy instead?

bummer. if im gonna double dip, at least its on gog. i love that they let you complete bundles when you already own some. unlike steam who won't even let you gift them.

Ugh, I want some of those Daedalic games but not all of them at once.

Looks like today is KODP and maybe FTL from the dev's site.

e: Also, if you already own games in a bundle and redeem a gift code for it, I think it'll just give you the games you were missing and someone else can use the same code to get the other games after you redeem it. I know that's worked in other GOG sales, like the Interplay one a while back.

Done. I have a disc copy somewhere, but I can't find it, and I never really got a chance to play it all those years ago. Here's my excuse to finally sit down with it.
It's been a few years since my last playthrough, but you'll probably want to download the unofficial patch (3, I think -- combines the 3-4 old patches and has a few "new" changes"). It's very risky to play without it with the disc version. Haven't tried the GOG release yet. Anyone know if they incorporated the fixes?

If you're into a more adventure-y Elite-esque experience rather than pure missions, you may wish to consider Privateer.

I was looking at Privateer. WCIII is outselling IV, too.

"pure missions" - is the continuing narrative in WCIV limited?

I'm still leaning towards WCIV on the grounds that it looks cool. I guess what I should be asking is, is there any reason IV shouldn't be my first space sim?

Picked up FTL, Syndicate, and King of Dragon Pass. I'm tempted to get some of the bundles, like the Ultima, Legacy of Kain, and City-Building bundles, but with my son's birthday coming up money's pretty tight and realistically, my backlog is already hideous.

Thanks for making all of that effort.

Made me bite. D&D pack, Fez, Hotline Miami and FTL. I'm going to be busy for a while.
