GOG's #NoDRM Summer Sale [UP: Last day]

Is this the last day of the sale?
No. They did this last year too. On the Winter Solstice, and now the Summer Solstice, they put out almost every individual daily deal they had run or were going to run for a special 24 hour promo. Last Winter I remember them having only one or two special bundles afterwards that had not been included during that special 24 hour promo, I might expect the same here during this sale as well.

Is System Shock 2 cool to play without playing 1? Is it likely to get much cheaper than this?
I also want to get System Shock 2 and I don't think you must have played 1. In fact I've never heard anything about System Shock 1, everybody is just talking about System Shock 2. So I guess you're good to go without having played 1.

Is this the last day of the sale?
No, the sale ends on July 5th.

How is Slender? I bought the DnD pack and the Legacy of Kain pack, and I'm looking at Slender to top it off? Worth five bucks?
According to the user reviews on GOG.com it's not that good. Many people say it's not that different to its predecessor "The 8 Pages", which is freeware. So I think it's not worth it.
I also considered to buy Slender The Arrival but after reading those user reviews I just stick to the freeware version.

Great game choices, especially Oddworld! Which ones did you get? I assume Abe's Oddysee and Exoddus and what is the third? Munch's Oddysee or Stranger's Wrath (HD)? The Abe games are the best, Munch is a horrible PC port (at least it was the last time I played it), but soon a revised HD version should be released (Steam owner get the update for free), similar to Stranger's Wrath HD update. Before the HD update, SW was also horrible on PC, now it's very well optimized for the PC platform and a pretty cool game (although I haven't played that much yet, my backlog! -.-).

EDIT: I see, only SW HD is available on GOG. Good choice man, good choice! Definitely better than Munch's Oddysee.

Yeah, I went with Stranger's Wrath since I missed out on it in the PS2 era. Heard nothing but good things, I'm looking forward to getting into the series. I also think it is more expensive on PSN and my PS3 is kaput so these games will hold me over. The other two were cheap so I just threw them in. I've actually never played any Oddworld games, so I figured to start with the classics.

Finished off the RPG Open Worlds pack with Avadon and Avernum. Also got Retro City Rampage and System Shock 2. The other bundles I'd consider getting are ones where I have games from other services like Humble, or I just want one or two games from them.

I played it for the first time a few months ago, and never played the first, and I loved it :)

Bought, and I swear that's my last for the sale. Blew $35 on this stuff.

I think I'll start with System Shock and Anachronox, then move in to The Longest Journey and tinker around with King of Dragon's Pass in between.

How's Nox? I wanna play a Diablo clone where I just kill shit, and it's sweet.

A good soundtrack would be nice, too. I don't know why it's so difficult to find WRPGs with soundtracks that aren't generic orchestral shit.

Nox's storyline isn't dungeon crawler-y like Diablo and Diablo 2's are, although there's a endless dungeon crawler mode.

Thanks guys. Bought Beyond Good and Evil, Duke 3D, and Redneck Rampage instead of slender (nostalgia'd, my dad had it when I was a kid).

Why would you want to bound those DRM-free games to Steam?

You're a monster.

Because fuck freedom, man!

Came here wondering the same thing. I don't really see Steam as a DRM, but more of a virtual library I can access easily everywhere. I don't care for "no DRM" myself as long as I don't have to deal with securom or GFWL.

I think I'll pick up the D&D bundle.

I really want Planescape: Torment. What other games in that bundle are good?

Edit: Are the Myst games good?

You've never played the Oddworld games? Man, Abe's Oddysee and Exoddus are amazing! Great platformers with stunning artwork, atmosphere and so much humor^^ The game speak is a really cool feature and sometimes the puzzles are really challenging!

Definitely start with Oddysee. I think it's the best game, compared to Exoddus it has the better story IMHO. Although Exoddus has the better game mechanics. Still Oddysee will be my personal favorite because it was my first Oddworld game I've played.

Edit: Are the Myst games good?
I can only speak to the original Myst. I hated it. Not enough clues as to what you need to do, and there were a bunch of levers and switches that changed things in rooms you weren't even in, so there's a lot of running back and forth trial and error type of puzzles.

I bought the Legacy of Kain bundle but no Blood Omen... :(
Is it available somewhere or is it okay to start the series without having played it?

It's only available as abandonware at this point. Sucks to skip it, but it's not absolutely required. Soul Reaver is a good starting point.

I'll be getting System Shock 2 for sure. But, hmm, all these other deals..

If Gemini Rue is any indication of how good the rest of those games are, yeah, it's very good if you like point and click adventures. But that's just an assumption based on one game. Hopefully someone else can give more detail.

Well, I've only played some of the Blackwell games, but I loved them. So from that standpoint too, it's a great deal.

I'm not a PC gamer at all but I spent over $50 on games to play on my laptop. With some recent Humble Bundles, especially the Telltale one, I've actually been playing PC games. I got a bundle with Deus Ex in preparation for the Human Revolution Wii U port. I also got the Myst and Legacy of Kain bundles as well as the Indie adventure bundle as To the Moon and The Cat Lady really interest me. Will probably pick up Pathologic as well. I was thinking of the first two seasons of Sam & Max to go with the third but I'll probably just pick up the Wii versions. Insanely good deals.

Well, be sure to play Deus Ex first.

I remember replaying that game a few years back and thinking to myself that it probably hasn't aged well and isn't much fun today. I was wrong. The original Deus Ex just does not stop being good.

I have the game on Steam and I still have my retail copy of the GOTY edition, but I'm finally gonna nab the DRM free version now and play it again. There's something magical about having an awesome game and just having it work.

OK GAF, showdown time. My buying spree continues, but I'm faced with a decision. I have two ~$10 bundles lined up, but I can only choose 1 (funds :( ). I need a second opinion, since the two look similarly appealing in terms of content-to-price.

Which of the following is the most bestest?

1. Spiderweb Soft (+ Eschalon) bundle (I already own Geneforge 1-5, though);
2. Wadjet Eye bundle.

Also, is FTL worth it for $2.5?

Oooh might have to go with the Builder's Boon bundle. I loved Lords of Magic when I was younger and I want to try the other titles.

I know this question has been asked a thousand times already, but I just bought the D&D pack having never played any of those games.

Which game should I tackle first? Should I jump straight into BGII, or should I start with someone a little easier, like NWN?

For reference, I loved the first Dragon Age - lining up my party, pausing, etc...

Well, which genre do you like more, point and click adventures, or open world RPGs? Should base your decision on that, and whether or not you played much of Geneforge and liked it. Yeah, FTL is worth it.

I like a measure of replayability, so I'd lean toward RPGs, but I'm also hankering for some decent oldschool point&click, since I haven't played any in a while.

That's tough. Both bundles contain incredible games...I can't decide! Guess it depends on what genre you're looking for at the moment.

And FTL is absolutely worth the price. Fantastic game.

I'm so gonna hate myself next week, when I realise I overspent yet another month's entertainment budget. :(

Got both bundles and FTL. My backlog's now huge-mongous.

Interested in Strike Suit Zero and fez. Although i feel like i should hold off on Fez and hope for a better or same sale on steam. Any other space combat or air combat games on this site for cheap anyone can suggest, more interested in being arcadey more than sim, i just want to play not deal with all this other junk.

So what's the word on Freespace 2? I remember this being the best space sim ever... 15 years ago. I'd love to play it, but I'm worried that's nostalgia talking and that by picking it up again I'll disappoint one of the great memories of a game that I have.

Also, I've heard that it's not really gamepad friendly, which discourages me a bit.
