GoT S4 is really losing me.

Full spoilers of course and yes I know what happens after season 6 ended. I spoiled myself intentionally since the internet is a landmine of GoT spoilers anyway.

After binge watching Seasons 1 to 3, season 4 is just losing me. Joffrey is a goner and he's was intensely entertaining. I haven't taken to Jon Snow at all. He's a boring pretty boy and I can see the direction going more and more to him, at least I've heard lol. And Khalessi just isn't that compelling of a character.

Does it get better? But the quality drop is palpable. Very strange.

But I'm forcing myself to go through this season.

The second half of S4 has some good stuff.

I'll tell you what. I gave up after S4 too. Show was a slog.

I just recently caught up after the praise of S6. Let me tell you....it gets even worse. S5 is atrocious. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. However, you need it in order to view S6, which is actually pretty darn good. S6 is probably the best season since the first few.

uhhh Season 4 is Pedro Pascal (Oberyn Martell)'s season, so it's amazing.

Both Seasons 5 and 6 start a little slow/shitty (especially when it gets into his Sand Snake daughters plotlines - except for gratuitous, gorgeous boobs), but they have standout episodes in their later halves that will hit you hard.

Season 4 ends quite well. Season 5 is bad. Season 6 is excellent.

Speaking generally - you'll find good and bad episodes in all three seasons.

Post season 3 has imo a clear drop in quality. There are a few episodes that are exceptions though and I find those exceptions keep the show worth watching. I was however close to quitting in season 5, there are some real fuckin lows in that season.

Only season I didn't like was S5.
S4 was great thanks to Pedro Pascal. I think S4 had also one of the best finales in the series.
If you're not really invested in either Jon Snow or Daenerys then yeah, I can see why you might lose interest in the show. That's fine though, people stop watching TV shows all the time after they lose interest, I've done it myself as well.

I didn't really buy into Jon Snow either until the last couple episodes of S4, but I've been on board with him since.

Season 5 is ok, it has storylines where you can very clearly see the show's writers making up their own stuff rather than use GRRM's material from the books and it really shows, unfortunately. However, there are high points.
Hardhome
has one of the best battle sequences not only in the show, but of any TV/film you care to mention. I'd recommend watching it, just keep your expectations in check and bare with it because Season 6 is a huge improvement with some really satisfying payoffs and set up as we approach the series ending.

Season 4 was full of amazing moments, but it rarely came together. Still a 9/10-season because of said scenes.

Season 5 sucks donkey balls, has one friggin outstanding "alltimer" episode, though.

Season 6 is amazing. so definitely keep watching.

Binging will always reveal these flaws. But it gets worse. Then it gets better. Then it gets worse. Then it gets better. Then worse. Better. Worse. Better...

Try to watch it when it's new and it's not as annoying.

Huh? S04 is probably among the top 3 seasons of GoT, actually every epiode was so packed of stuff happening that most people got too used to it and later in S05 they thought everything was way too slow. In my opinion S04 and S06 are the two best seasons, followed by S03 and S01.

S02 is a bit slower and S05 suffers from poor writing/acting, but it still quite good.

I think 4 is the best season personally. The last 3 episodes in particular are quite strong.

Yeah hang in there; S4 is pretty boring most of the time but it has some great stuff toward the end.

As others have said, S5 is pretty bad most of the time but has enough awesome stuff sprinkled in to make it worth watching.

S6 is really good, so don't give up on the show.

I feel just the opposite: binge watching masks a lot of a show's flaws for me. Pacing issues or blatant filler material feel way less obvious, or at least way less obtrusive, if I'm not waiting seven days in between episodes.

Seasons 4/5/6 are interesting in that they're the stretch where the show catches up to then flies past the books. 4 and to a greater extent 5 have parts that are past books 4 and 5 in the series. The problem is books 4 and 5 are...not good. They have a few good plotlines but are weighed down by many more slow tedious ones.

Eighth episode of 5 is fantastic btw, so definitely try to watch through that. It took an even that was only referenced by letter in the book and made it a major primary event to the benefit of the series.

Once you get to season 6 the show has mostly gotten past the books and begins to break out on its own, much to its benefit.

Yeah, the show quality fell off hard after Season 3. Many have speculated that since one of the major reasons why the showrunners, D&D, by their own admission created the show in the first place was to bring the
Red Wedding
to the big screen, that after they got past that point they simply weren't as motivated anymore.

Which would explain alot tbh, but it's still just speculation.

I felt the same way. I was on the fence with GoT throughout S4 and S5, but S6 brought me back.

The end of S6 was the first time I had hope that this story was actually going to end in a meaningful way. Almost made me a bit teary.
Also to see Dany finally going to Westeros after GRRM started this story 20 years ago. Sniffle.

I didn't realize how much worse s4-s5 were until I watched s6, that shit was fucking the best thing.

They didn't create the show solely to shoot that scene. :lol But they have said there were three specific moments they were really looking to doing:
Dany commanding the Unsullied to kill their masters, the Red Wedding, and the ending of The Door.

Season 4 is merely an amuse bouche to prepare you for the awesomeness of Season 5, where you will enjoy spending a lot of time in Dorne with the well developped character of Doran Martell with which thankfully you'll be able to follow fan favorite actor Alexander Sidig for many, many episodes and great dialogues.
Ah, and the Sand Snakes, of course, truly the best.

I said it was one of the reasons, not the only reason :P

Yeah OP, I had the same feeling and to me much of S4 &5 were a write off.
However, the show finally found its footing again with S6

Season 4 has some pretty good moments, I would stick with it. Season 5 is hard to get through, I would say the only season that is actively bad. But it's worth it to get to season 6, or atleast read a summary of it.

Season 5 was by far the worst for me but it was worth it as it birthed Season 6 which was much improved.

4 is good, 5 is disappointing though Sapochnik's Hardhome is required viewing and 6 is the best season yet with three absolute belters: The Door, Battle of the Bastards and The Winds of Winter, which is my favorite GoT episode of all.

That is because the books fell off hard after book 3.

I still like book 4 and 5 but they are the weakest of the bunch.

Why do people hate season 5 so much?

Personally: Sansa's (unnecesary, IMHO) storyline and what they did to Dorne. Seriously, there's barely any redeeming thing about Dorne in the show. A complete waste of time and talent.

Meereen wasn't very good either, but that's a problem directly from the books.

S5 is seriously worse than the already terrible S4 and even though everybody disagrees, for me personally S5 spoiled my enjoyment of S6 because I seriously lost any interest for any of those shitbags.

Game of Thrones is a pretty-looking but bad show and you should spend your time watching good shows.

I'm a big TV fan in general, but it's been on my backlog of sorts and the first three seasons really impressed me.

But yes, I know there are better shows.

Huh.. Season 4 is arguably the best season

You will encounter a drop in quality in S5 but it's not as bad as some would make you think. Outside of the Dorne stuff it's a pretty strong season
