Grand Theft Auto V |OT2| <Title available for purchase>

Wow so since I finished GTA V, I went out and bought the collection of GTA IV (mainly for lost and gay tony)

WOW has the engine come a long way. Its quite shocking how "bad" GTA IV looks after playing 5. I still had a lot of fun actually playing it though, although I hate the handling of the normal vehicles (hopefully it gets better as I get hold of better cars).

Also not sure if its coincidence but bank robbery at intro for gay tony has a heist in a bank with a gunman called Michael.

So after beating this the other day I have been thinking about a discussion we were having about Sleeping Dogs a couple of weeks ago. I personally was debating how it does not touch GTA V in terms of the world, variety and overall production value and I absolutely still stand by that. GTA V is on another level in those areas.

But now that I have beat it, I have to say that I still prefer the gameplay, soundtrack and story in Sleeping Dogs. Not trying to start shit, I'm just saying that I think Sleeping Dogs is better in those areas and deserves more credit. As great as GTA V is, it's not perfect.

What cool stuff happened in Sleeping Dogs story, I forget. Never finished it, loved the look of the world at first but got bored halfway through.

Without posting spoilers, I just felt the entire plight of Wei Shen to be more compelling. Being undercover and getting sucked into the gang life at the same time made you feel the stress of his situation and the internal battle of sticking to his job or being sucked into the underworld of crime more and more.

Man I am super happy I kept both version, was gonna sell or trade my xbox 360 version since I think the PS3 version looks a lot better (with the bright shining effect)

Sounds like best bet is to keep the 2 completely separate, and play 360 online and PS3 single player. My first single player play through took 37 hours but my second will likely take longer as I am gonna do a lot more sightseeing and do things I didnt realize I could do till end game (like hang out with Amanda). Also gonna take a bunch of snaps.

From a loading screen however, I LOVE the idea that you can just quickstart events on the map online instead of having to drive there. Gonna make it cool to do all the vehicle stuff etc (You cant auto travel to events in single player right?)

On PS3, does anyone know if you can transfer the save file across user accounts? I'm about 60% in on my friend's profile, and have never signed into PSN or social club since I got the game. Now that GTAO is here I want to use my account which is tied to my social club.

I've tried searching around but the only information I find is from pirates wanting to go legit which seems like a different process.

Hmm, interesting. I found the plot of Sleeping Dogs to be totally mundane and predictable, and if GTA V has a shittier plot then I guess it's going to be pretty bad.

To be honest I'm fully expecting to dislike GTA V (hence why I am Redboxing it instead of buying it, which I almost never do for games). I didn't really enjoy SA or IV, but I feel like I need to play GTA V to be part of the current gaming zeitgeist.

I like that the game encourages replaying missions by adding challenges to achieve, but too many missions have long stretches of driving/flying while characters talk. It's not fun doing it for a third time because you came up two headshots short in the previous attempt.

Ended up going for 100% over the last couple of days. I only have the stunt-jumps left - but some of these are tricky. I had a pretty good motorcycle - but after crashing, I reloaded a save-game and I was just stood there without my bike. I bought one online, but it won't appear in my garage. I don't mind doing the jumps (apart from the tougher ones) - but finding a good vehicle is the most annoying part!

I'm not strictly trying to be GTA defense force here, as I've been saying this since it came out, but I think the story in SD is pretty crappy really, it's super super predictable, has average voice acting and is just entirely rote. Undercover cop gets too deep and empathizes with his quarry. Kills all the baddies, does it HIS way. Yawn. The best thing about SD was the weird bullet time that you got from jumping over tables, I called it tabletime. The driving was shite too. And soundtrack? There was a soundtrack? :p

SD was better than it had any right to be, but I'd say it was B quality.

Anyone else run into a bug where you can't start a mission? I've got a Trevor one labeled on the map but when I go there (doesn't matter which character I am) there's no way to trigger it.

So I tried to go hunting a little while ago. It...didn't go well.

Attempt 1- Found an elk! *shoots and sends pic* "Hey asshole I told you not to shoot the women" The fuck? I could have sworn that had antlers but alright.

Attempt 2- Hey there's a legit elk this time! Let me just get a nice clean headshot *somehow misses even though the dot was right on its eye. Elk runs away*. ooook

Attempt 3- Got another elk lined up perfectly so I shoot, but the elk lowers its head the exact moment I fire and it sails right over his head, runs away. Are you fucking kidding me?

Attempt 4- Killed a couple coyotes and was rewarded with pennies basically. Spotted another elk so I got ready to shoot but I heard a weird sound, couldn't tell what it was so I ignored it. 5 seconds later I'm getting mauled by a mountain lion and get an instant death.

Attempt 5- No, fuck that. I'm doing something more fun.

I brought up Sleeping Dogs if it's the discussion you're referring to, and the more time I put into GTAV, the more I feel like I enjoyed it and RDR more than GTAV as a whole. Those games felt more cohesive. While GTAV has a fantastic world and some great missions, I never really feel like a part of it or like I'm playing the same character I'm playing in the main story missions. It's weird. And there's so much missed opportunity with the properties, and economy, and the heist theme. Plus the mechanics and how they + the health system work in the open world have put a damper on the whole thing.

I recognize that GTAV is still a very good game, for them most part, but IDK. It's not giving that same feeling.

And soundtrack? There was a soundtrack? :p

SD had some amazing "rainy nighttime in Hong Kong" tracks on the radio.

Yeah, hunting is pretty much impossible because mountain lions are one hit insta-kills. (although I'm not sure if body armor will protect you). Hell, sometimes they appear on the side of the road. I got insta-killed as Trevor just walking around on foot near Sandy Shores. I think they wanted to try to replicate the cougars/mountain lions from RDR, but it's not the same. In RDR, they can take out your horse in like one hit, but you are able to survive. In this, they just appear out of nowhere and destroy you.

Also, small tip. When hunting, shoot for the heart not the head. Clean kills give you more money I think.

In casa Derrick we go for headshots. ALL of the time :)

Plus I have $100 million on Trevor I can sacrifice an extra $50 for heart shots.

Damn, it's a good thing that PS+ has online backups. I think I fell victim to the GTA:Online save corruption bug. Last good save I have has missions from Lester (one that sets up
an infiltration of the FIB building to get rid of evidence
) as well as a mission for Solomon. However, when GTA:Online failed to load properly it put me in Michael's shoes with a Dave mission available. Didn't think anything of it at the time, but the mission was called
"The Wrap Up"
. I finished it, and then I proceeded to go to the shrink and
ended up killing him when he said he was going to get a TV show
. (Not sure how far into the story THAT was, but it's not a huge deal that I'll have to do it again.) After all that, NO missions loaded for any character. None.

Long story short, I loaded up the old save and everything seems to be going fine now. Really hope they sort this thing out.

I cant even enter the bike race with a custom ride because when I order a motorcycle it wont even spawn in the garage :/

I would disagree with his assessment. The story and characters in GTA V has been far and away more interesting to me than Sleeping Dogs. SD's plot was, like everything else in the game to me, pretty forgettable.

I still can't make photos in game. I still get the message that the Rockstar cloud services are unavailable. Do more people STILL have this issue? It's really annoying, still 2 weeks after launch...

360 version btw.

I disconnected my PS3 net connection and avoided the new update. Im not ready to leave the singleplayer portion yet and Id rather hold off on diving into the pool of frustration that is GTAO for the time being until R* flattens out some wrinkles. Im grabbing golds while I wait and I dont mind whatsoever.

In the meantime, "The Long Stretch" is fucking awesome and Stretch is a dicknose.

Also there are tons and tons of areas on the map that the story never takes you to that would seemingly be golden opportunities for interesting missions eg.
the casino, the race course, the power plant, the wind farm etc
.

I guess there is a chance that DLC will cover some of this in future.

A lot of the not-in-game stuff does end up on the television shows one way or another, I do kinda appreciate that sort of use of content, but in that respect, it would have been an excellent way to tie in those areas. Something like addresses or phone numbers you could save to your phone for markers to these areas would have been the least they could have done.

I would bet as well that some areas are being preserved for later content.

I really need help. I can't get blitz play heist to go for some reason. I completed all 5 objectives.

Only thing that is 'holding me up' is Franklin claims he needs to do something for later but it is just the hotel assassination mission. What is going on?

Did the final heist and all the assassination missions, now I have about 1.3 billion dollars with each character.

Youngest billionaire in the world bitches

GTAV has solid characters, but the story is nothing. It's so meandering in the middle that i have absolutely no idea why I was doing half the stuff I was doing. It's picking up a bit now that I'm towards the end deal due to filling in the blanks a bit, but it's still not a driving force or anything.

Euphoria can go screw it self in the mountains. I switched to Trevor to find him sitting up there and a mountain lion jumps out of the bushes- which you can survive by using his RAGE powers- but gotdamn Euphoia makes me stumble and stumble after fighting the lion off until I end up dying. So dumb.

The first couple of assassination missions are mandatory.

Do the mission, and the heist should appear.

I guess the characters and writing are so interesting that I don't need much. Bad dudes doing bad shit has been good enough for me.

What the fuck

(late game spoilers, involving an optional mission)

I killed the psychiatrist, and a few missions later he's back in his office talking to Michael

Related to the post above,
I've only been able to go to the Psych's office one time, and I've beaten the game and have no idea how to visit him again or get the quest that involves killing him or whatever.

EDIT: I'm an idiot. He's there now. So as to not make this post totally useless, how many different Psych visits can you have throughout the game? I only had the one.

I had about three or four visits before I got
to blast his ass point blank with the suppressed shotty before he even got to leave his office. He slumped over his steering wheel in his Pfister Comet, I tossed him out, collected my 2k+ and went to the strip club.

I think I had about 5-6 including the ones over the phone and the family one.
He hasn't reappeared for me yet for what it's worth.

Oh and BTW, you people who said this was anywhere close to MP3 combat are crazy. Ka-razy. I'm even more sure of that now. The gunplay heavy Michael missions are proof enough. There are 2 of them that could literally be ripped straight from MP3, except they don't play anywhere near as well. I maintain that this is one step above GTAIV, same level as RDR.
