GTA V PC Performance Thread

I plan on using DSR in combo with FXAA. Should I use TXAA too?

Depends on the resolution. If you want a near flawless image and you are using DSR at 4k, then FXAA should suffice. 1440p/1620p is still going to need some more AA (2xMSAA/MFAA/TXAA). I believe MFAA has the best quality-performance ratio. If you are using DSR at 4K, do remember that SLI does not work with DSR at that resolution.

This is why I am holding off on upgrading my comp for this game.

How does this perform on a GTX980? Is it always 60 FPS?

My framerate goes from 10 to 25 when I hit the highway or the curvy roads to get into the country side. When I'm at the countryside it's always around 30 while in the city everything is smooth as butter. i7 2600k Gtx 980 16gb ram, everything maxed except shadows set to softest and FXAA at 1440p.

Just decided to jump my texture setting up to Very High for shits and giggles to see how much stuttering I'd see while it swaps textures... and it runs exactly the same so far. Looks like I may be able to have my cake and eat it too, but I still can't see the difference between high and very high.

Yea, I've gone past that RAM bar they show with Shadows and Population Variety, and performance still hasn't been impacted in GTA O.

I'm getting crazy color banding in the night sky, especially when it's stormy weather / clouds, is this normal? I have a asus rog swift an a Titan x, was hoping color banding like this wouldn't be an issue :/

I gave up on trying to get a consistent 60fps with my i5 2500 and 970. It would be 60fps most of the time, but with some tearing and drops down to the mid 40s.

I ended up maxing most settings (besides some of the advances ones, and grass is only at 'very high') and cranking it to 4k. I was able to lock it to 30fps. The tearing has stopped and it looks bloody gorgeous.

Does anyone else get strange CPU and GPU utilization? I never see either at or near 100%.

Sometimes all of my cores will be at 85-90%, and other times they will be at 60-70%. The highest I've seen my GPU usage is like 80%, a lot of the time its like 65-70%

I'm running a 2500k @ 4.0ghz and 970 btw.

I've never seen either my 660ti or i7 920 at stock speeds at 100% or near with this game either. And I'm really pushing the graphics too, everything at Very High, the other options at the highest they can be. Not counting textures or advanced options. With both being midrange offers I was expecting this to be entirely different.

God damn it it crashed on blitz play mission, exactly after driving away in the getaway car..
the game then switch to michael, then the game crashes..

tried restarting but the crash happened on the exact same spot... this is crazy

If it's the same crash I had, it was caused by aiming your weapon while driving. Just finish the mission without shooting. After the mission, save your game and restart GTAV.

You're either playing a a low res, have never gone to Blaine county or are lying.

Its true.. I have the same spec and its buttery smooth for me, but somehow i like 1440p with fxaa better rather than 1080p with 2x msaa

I can confirm this is the solution,, some solution online also told me not to use throwable weapon.. I just finished the mission minutes ago.. Thanks !

anyone who played the console versions noticed that the box truck's rear doors now can't be opened?

pretty mad because jumping in the back of one and causing havoc was a good way to kill a half hour.

edit: ahhh wrong thread

Switch your Landing Page back on in the game options and restart the game. That should fix it. Read back through this thread a little, its come up before.

I get 60 fps with no dips (980, i7 4770) by setting msaa 2x, and post processing to high. Everything else is maxed.

Like butter.

I actually thought the exact same, but realized that PrecisionX was spitting out the completely WRONG framerate. It was telling me I was at 100+ constantly even with everything maxed and I was stuttering.

I knew something was up and fired up FRAPS, then steam FPS counter, and MSI Afterburner. They all confirmed my suspicions. I'm still super confused why PrecisionX was telling me my FPS was so high.

I finally got the patch after avoiding going online for a few days and my perfect running game started having issues. I couldn't keep a solid 60fps anymore with the same exact settings. It would drop to 54-57 often when just looking around in front of my safehouse.

Fortunately I got it running back to the way it was just by simply turning off v-sync in-game and using adaptive v-sync through the Nvidia CP. Only difference now is that it fluctuates up to 61fps pretty often but every now and then it will drop to 59fps (including the country area).

Was worried but glad it wasn't nothing

Yeah PrecisionX is messed up in more ways than one. I couldn't downsample from 4k with it on. And then the incorrect fps counter. Switched to afterburner and never looked back.

it doesnt work for a lot of ppl since their landing page was already on. However, try throw the sticky bomb from the car. DONT USE IT ON FOOT.

i dont know which one fixed the crash but i turned on the landing page, not throwing sticky bomb on foot.. and turning off fraps..

Well I went ahead and disabled everything except streaming while flying in advanced options. Totally eliminated the small stutter and hitches I was experience, some of which I didn't even notice too much until I disabled that stuff and played a smooth 60fps.

I tried using DSR 1.3 and 1.5x resolutions just for laughs and I didn't really like it (I'm at 1080p). It looked sort of blurry... do I need to put the DSR smoothing at 0?

I also kept having the game minimize by itself over and over tonight. Was really annoying and no idea what was causing it.

turn off fxaa or the dsr smoothing factor.

I have an issue that has made the game almost unplayable.
The game bounces between 60 and 30 fps like a yoyo after the latest patch
It used to run at 60 95% of the time

Is there a known fix for the box shadow that appears around your character sometimes?

Also, is there a known fix for some shadows not coming into focus until your literally right on top of them?

So I'm the only person using MSAA in here? I dont see a TXAA option in my control panel and FXAA is too blurry IMO.

I use it. I have a gtx 770 with 2gb of vram. I use most settings on high or very high and extended scaling at max. I've turned off dof and have shadows at normal quality I think. I am averaging somewhere in the 40s for fps. More than tolerable for me.

The framerate doesn't seem to bounce around a lot so I am good with it.

Posting here for help.

OK been playing fine a few day and today i'm getting "Failed To start game(Missing executable) when I launch it through steam. Any fix for this that isn't redownloading the entire game?(I needed to go to my friends house cause it would take me a week on my connection.) Tried verifying game cache and it tells me to exit all game before doing it. Nothing is open.

Do you have Avast antivirus?

Oh is the game known to not play nice with Avast? Because this morning when I bought it on steam, after it was done allocating disk space, when it started downloading I got a big ass avast virus warning. Will I be getting issues when I start the game?

I didn't change much of the graphical settings when I started playing, but it runs really smooth most of the time. I'm totally impressed by it. Visuals are fantastic, I haven't noticed much in the way of pop-ins, and FPS drops are mostly where everyone else is getting them (country-side/curvy roads). I think that's where I'll drop a setting or two. Nearly all of them are high or very high.

R9 280X, Intel Dual i3-4150 @ 3.50GHz, 16GB ram.

I forgot to benchmark. :/

e: Benchmark results are very sketchy. No stable 60, but it can hit 60 most of the time. Lowest it dropped to was 28 when the humvee crashed into the police car. Overall, I'm very happy. I'll just need to adjust a setting or two to try and get at least a stable 30.

Apparently, Avast has been quarantining one of the GTAV .exes.

The game doesn't start with Comodo running / installed, and Windows Firewall also got all nervous the first time I ran it.

I'd say if anyone is having issues the first thing they should be doing after the usual stuff like updating drivers, is disabling or making exceptions with virus programs and firewalls, since this game seems particularly incompatible with them for whatever reason.

I have 2x Titan X and a 5960x and playing at 1440p I get at least 60 FPS (80-90+ in much of the city) most of the time even in the countryside except for the occasional situations it drops to the 50s or even high 40s. I get occasional stuttering but I have a gsync monitor that covers up most of that and makes the worst drops more bearable, but still...

I have almost everything maxed except AA; I only have FXAA enabled right now. It's not ideal. I'm wondering what else I could do here that would make a significant enough impact to keep me above 60 fps without sacrificing too much.

I do. I'll look into that.

Edit: You are the man. That did it.

The reason is the game IS a virus and Rockstar wants to destroy all our pcs so we stop asking for RDR ports

I find that this tends to happen when starting the game or switching between story/director/online. Alt+tab fixes it for me.

I've done some extensive tweaking with a 280X so I'd recommend my settings. However, you have a much weaker CPU and that's shown by the huge fps drop you get in the city portion of the benchmark so I'd recommend turning down Population Density first and then Distance Scaling.

Anyone gaming on a laptop here? Wondering how my 870M might handle it at 1920x1080.. I'd hope for a solid 30 at the least :).

I installed this on my 2011 Dell XPS (gt555m) just for a laugh and was pleasantly suprised. At 1600 x 900 a locked 30fps is easily achieved with most settings on normal (very high textures thanks to nvidia putting stupid amounts of vram in laptop cards that don't need it) and some settings on high. I didn't expect to be able to run it at all so I'm very happy. I might try steam in home streaming from my desktop (I have a 780) to see how that compares.

So I'm sure your 870m will get you to high settings with some at very high.

Any advance tips of what to turn off / tweek when I finish downloading it and start it? I'm a lazy fuck that usually can't be bothered with checking each setting, nor knows what most things even do :/

My system is i5 4690k, 16GB ram, 2x gtx970 SLI
