Well eh... why would you spend so many resources on a 4-player co-op mode if co-op doesn't even work properly?

If it does become the norm in Halo 4 then it'll be even worse than the last games. In 3 or Reach I often passed on going into btb with a team of 8 because at least half of the matches would devolve into 8v3, competing with my teammates to get that one kill per minute. With JIP there is no deterrent going in as a team of 8. Which means more teams of 8. Which means party size matching should definitely be implemented!

8v8 where both teams are pre formed is great.

Some really, really bothersome things about H4.

  • NO forge fine tuning (this feature was in Reach)
  • NO chance of recreating assault with the grifball gametype. The bomb arm time setting is broken. It's an instasplode despite what time you set it to.
  • NO classic respawn times for Slayer. You can instant respawn no matter what time you set it to. That's right, you can set to 90 seconds and still have the option to "Press X to Respawn". Did anyone else notice that it was a 5 second time in the MLG stream but mostly everyone just pressed X before the countdown ended?
I can't believe so many things that were in the previous game are simply impossible to do in this newer one. Patch it please, 343.

That impression was from one match of Spartan Ops. Hardly any indicator of how it will truly run. But others have stated its great in Co-op. Day 1 patch yo

Of course it's only one game but the fact remains there was still input lag, which reflects the fact that it still operates under lockstep. Fyrewulff will explain why it 'can't' be improved. Like I said, if 343 had managed to get over that hurdle they would have at least mentioned it on here. You'll still have to play online co op with all players having low ping for it to work. Maybe that's why they used the water cooler analogy? people that work at the same office tend to live in close geographical proximity...

It's not?

The option isn't there. And apparently MLG couldn't find it either since everyone is instant respawning despite their 5 second "respawn time". Before Dallas, MLG released a list of their settings; slayer specifically listed as having a 5 second respawn time. Too bad anyone can still press X at any time!

Wait...what? I thought instant respawn was only in certain gametypes. What the fuck?
 
Didn't monkey say he got to SR25 in only a few hours? Either the curve isn't that steep or that Mountain Dew and Doritos is paying off.

BTW I still don't understand Specializations. Are they basically little "classes" to level up in for the unlocks and after that you can't really do anything else with it? So once you've unlocked everything in every Specialization you just have a bunch more perks and armor pieces to play with?

Currently this is my biggest worry for Halo 4's MP in the short term. I don't know why 343 did this, but they made Stability a spec, which means I'll have to deal with the flinching for fifty levels and – because I'm not getting the LE – I'll have to wait for it to be unlocked for an unknown amount of time if I hit 50 very quickly. Judging from those who have the game, it won't take me that long.

I said this in my impressions, but I played one game without Stability and did not like it. I didn't like it to the point where I'm not sure I'll be able to go through fifty levels of Halo 4's MP without it. I did only play one game without it, so hopefully it's not as bad as I remember.

I can say that I do not approve of 343 taking abilities we've had in previous games and making them "add-ons." Feels like a step backwards.

I think it's in other gametypes as well. Pretty sure it's not in CTF though.



Co-ordinate editing is in. I'm talking about when you hold the stick in to make very small manual adjustments.

I'm pretty sure instant respawn is only in slayer gametypes.

Magnets? I'm assuming magnets are here now to make forge easier to snap pieces together.

Yeah, but it's hard to be precise without the fine tuning. The objects move quite fast without fine tuning, even when barely moving the thumbstick.

Did the fine tuning even work in Reach? Don't think i ever managed to use, i just used coordinates and rough placement (until it was good enough, took long).
Was it activated by zooming or by holding left stick?

Holding left stick. It was essential for eliminating z-fighting when using the coordinate system.

The respawn timer just sounds like an errant line of code. Surely that will be fixed via patch? Same with the bomb/ball arm time... If the option is in the game it seems like they just need to patch up the coding behind it.

Double EXP is pretty much worthless. I played 7 War Games and 6 SpOps mission and I'm already on SR-17.

My Loadouts are:

1. BR, Magnum, 2 frag nades, Thruster Pack (just amazing) Dexterity and Shielding

2. DMR, Magnum, 2 fraf nades, Thruster Pack, Dexterity and Shielding

I also use the Carbine sometimes and it is quite good for cleaning up kills, but it is to weak in my opinion. Sadly :(

I will stream later and if you want to see sth just tell me in the stream chat.

Will link my channel as soon as I get home again and set up the stream.

The progression sounds fast... that's okay, Reach's was too slow. But since there is no prestige option, what the hell do we gain after SR130? Anyone getting the LE, Specialiations pre-order, or plays before 20th in NA will hit SR130 very soon.
What then? Sure, i'll keep playing, it is Halo but it would be nice to keep unlocking stuff or gaining ranks or something.

How is SpOps latency? Do you know where the other players were from (as this this affects latency quite a lot in co-op)? Who was the host?

SpOps plays really smooth for me, atleast compared to Reach's 1-2h seconds delay lol

I can't only think it'll get better once more people start getting the game.

The mode is lots of fun

What do you think about the story? Is it any good already or does it pick op slow?

This game is such a mess. Maybe the guys on the dev team who were recreating Seattle and making grunts drive to their favorite restaurants in-engine during crunch time could've taken a glance at these items.

I have to say even though I loove reach as a halo game compared to halo 3 this stuff rarely happened for me... The amazing spontaneity, that happened in halo 3 was amazing.I'm sure most of you would agree....really hope it happens in 4 for me... made games more fun when it happened.

I played 5 games of SpOps with a friend and us 2, handled Legendary pretty well, with 4 deaths on each side. Was too easy in my opinion. The other game, was with a guy from USA. Don't know, which area, but there wasn't a single lag. I will be playing some more SpOps mission and report back.

However, something very odd happened in my 1st game today. Was playing Infinity Slayer, got a blackscreen and I was the only one who could play after that. Killed 3 AFK guys, which run against a wall and then everybody quit. It was my connection, but it's weird, that I could kill them.

I don't think I'll be streaming, because multiplayer is on german and I don't know, if you guys like that, because it sounds just stupid and hilarious...

He didn't go in detail explaining that the assassin goes into space and starts killing satellites that are projecting weird symbols on the ground. (Mind you I haven't played any of the games since the first one) Are gonna get upset when I tell you that the ending of Mass Effect 3 is garbage?

Doesn't do anything for me. I won't bother checking Waypoint every now and then for my rank, i don't care what is. If it will be made visible in-game, maybe then.

I wouldn't mind if we could just keep ranking up (SR-131 and onward) even if that would do nothing.
Or maybe some sort medals every 50 match finished? Don't know, it would be fun to have something (non-skill based).

I think it's best to just leave anything related to campaign (no matter how vague) in spoiler tags, at least until Tuesday when everyone else has a chance to play.
