Getting the scarab gun is far from the easiest "easter egg" related achievement to get in MCC.

How about the "Mystery Achievement", or "Ride the Pelican" on 343GS, or any of the "Siege of Madrigal" ones?

the mystery achievement is
save a forge map as .fortune

This is the exact reason I feel it's more of a microsoft than a dev issue.

The timing of the release had to be for Christmas, but also in the states obviously black friday is a BIG deal and that's when probably most consoles that are being bought for christmas will be bought? So 343i probably said look it needs another couple weeks, Microsoft just hit the kill switch and said the sales out weigh the risk... probably. Although I have no real idea, it just seems like the right business move.

LIke I said, I see them as one and the same. 343 is a company owned and started within Microsoft. Whoever fucked up doesn't matter, but the fact is it's a big mistake that things had to happen this way, and damage has been done to the IP as a result of these decisions. (technical or moneywise)

Halo 3 is just magic. Game has aged so well. The games have done a great job of evolving as Bungie made these through the years. Levels are short and easier than previous two however

Halo 3, imo, is the pinaccle of Bungie's success imo (also loved Reach too)
h3 is good but NOPE.

The timing of the release was clearly to get it out by the actual Halo 2 anniversary. You can't place all the blame on MS, though, 343 made the game, and outsourced a lot of it to get it finished. When you have that many cooks in the kitchen it's hard to pull everything back together and ship it. Somewhere along the way bugs were missed, and then something catastrophic came up at launch causing these matchmaking issues.

Blame falls to everyone, not one side or the other. The only light from the situation is that 343 seems to be doing a better job than most at keeping the community updated on fixes and getting patches out. Hopefully by tonight everything is playable at the very least.

Alright, finally about to play The Library for the first time ever. Any actual tips for getting through it as quickly and easily as possible? I hate the Flood, want to get back to fighting Covenant.

I'm playing on Heroic btw.

Take it slow. It requires patience and focus.

It won't be a nightmare though, since you're not doing it on legendary. So just grab a drink, chill out and finish the fight.

Pistol and shot gun should get you through. if you run out of pistol, pick up an AR, you should never run out of shotgun once you get it.

Keep moving periodically cleaning up behind you with grenades or pistol, only stop when the game makes you wait.

The Library is one part patience and one part knowing when to run like hell. Make sure you always have a shotgun on you since that will be your personal anti-Flood device (the level gives you plenty of ammo for it as well). Pistol or AR make a good secondary weapon.

Honestly I don't even think The Library is the worst level in the game
because I think Two Betrayals is worse

Shotty and AR is the best combo. AR for the little dudes, shotty for everything else. Save the little guys for last, since they do very little damage. Melees work on the little guys, but not on anyone else. Be wary of throwing grenades, because there will be stray grenades everywhere and they will blow up too.

Pistol and shotgun. Pistol from distance, then hug corners and blast flood as they come around the corners with the shotgun.

Also clearing out all flood can help. They don't have infinite respawns even though it may feel like it.

Just stay focused, and don't go near the carrier forms, the big bulbousy waddling explosion cunts.

Pay attention to arrow directions on the floor to be sure you're going the right way. Losing your way is the only annoying part of that level imo, and that hasn't been a problem for me in over a decade :)

And these two.

Great Library advice. I would also add to get up on the high ground whenever possible.

The AR works wonders on the little guys, just tap the trigger to sprinkle them with bullets for that POP POP POP!

So much great advice, thanks everyone.

Also, I think someone suggested to grab a drink while I'm at it - I've never tried it, but I'd think that drinking while playing campaign on anything above normal would get pretty frustrating what with those compromised reflexes and all.

One beer will loosen you up! Take a drink every time you die.

If you smoke weed then light it up. Halo on high difficulty with good weed is incredible.

Also the plasma pistol/rifle are better for the little guys than the AR imo.

I personally love playing the library. It's a straight up shooting gallery and really unlike any Halo level. For good reason I suppose since so many people hate it

Could you promote people to party leader in MCC? Is that part of the patch?

I feel like when I played I couldn't, but maybe I didn't look hard enough.

I love that level, I just soloed it LASO and had an awesome time. It felt like a great achievement and I thought that nothing else would bother me from that point on... until the very beginning of the next level, Two Betrayals... Is the beginning of that even possible solo LASO?

I haven't tried any CE LASO yet. I'd imagine Two Betrayals would be a bitch. Keyes should be straight forward enough with the shield bump

Does LASO include Iron? I just can't picture that being fun.

I'm like 99% positive that yes it does. I always assumed playing LASO solo was a masochistic proposition. Unless you're one of those pros who think that Legendary difficulty "is fairly easy" or something.

Don't cry, keep running, shotgun is your friend.

watch the fuck out for ones with rocket launchers.

So this is my first LASO run through, I'm at Two Betrayals at the moment. I thought I was making pretty good time so far and it was pretty doable but I didn't know what the Iron skull was till you said something and I looked it up...

Apparently it doesn't get turned on for CE. I'm doing the Legendary Master Chief Playlist.

Plasma Pistol is the 3rd best weapon against Flood, especially if you got a quick trigger finger. Not sure why AR is being suggested, Plasma Rifle and Plasma Pistol are better because you can kill Spores and not be useless against the big guys without having to switch weapons.

Backpack reload glitch comes into its own on The Library, never reloading makes it a lot more manageable. Just tap XX then Y to swap to your other weapon, blast away then switch back to your other weapon after you hear the reload finish. If you run Pistol/Shotty most of the level like I do, then you can constantly do this.

First, play on Anniversary graphics. Things are brighter, and there are arrows on the floor to prevent you from getting lost.

If you're good at grenade jumps, you can jump on the pillars right at start and then hop into the Index room, skipping the first annoying encounters of the game.

Other than that, just keep a shotgun on you at all times and be wary of chain-reactions; detonating Carrier forms usually takes a lot of Flood out with them but it can also propel carriers towards you or set off grenades around your feet.

You can run past a lot of Flood but you have to stay and defend at three doors.

Ammo isn't really much of an issue, but watch out for shotgunners running at you... and there are three areas where there are Rocket flood.

I prefer a pistol as my secondary because you can wipe out a lot of Flood without them even getting close enough to engage you, especially in the wide areas next to the Index chamber.

Indeed. Backpack reloading is an amazing help here since you really don't want to stop moving unless you have a safe spot to recharge your shields, or you're forced to stop.

AR is probably best for killing the spores given its high rate of fire. Against the Flood-Elites I think it's fairly viable. Honestly The Library is one of the only levels I'd ever actually recommend the AR.

I realised this when doing it a couple of days ago. I was getting really frustrated with it at first but just learnt to sit back in corners, be patient and take all of the flood out in an area before moving on and I kinda enjoyed it towards the end. Working out the best spot to position myself, learning what enemies spawned where in an encounter to dispatch first after numerous retries. Sure, the level itself is pretty repetitively designed but for that level I mainly played in Anniversary mode so it wasn't too bad.

Two Betrayals is up next for me right?

Why are people talking about shooting the spores? You shouldn't be wasting any ammo on the popcorn. Just take a couple of minutes to learn how to round them up by side stepping them and then mêlée till most of them pop and keep moving. Once you have that down the popcorn actually become fun.

It's pretty useless

FTFY. CE AR kind of sucks balls in general. Flood spores are really the only place it's decent.

Shooting them with the AR is faster on a level were ammo isn't really a concern.

Heresy: I'm not a fan of either Assault on the Control Room or Two Betrayals. I think it's the constant up-and-down, one bridge to the other side, go around this room monotony that starts setting in.

The only level I actually have a hard time figuring my way around though is 343 Guilty Spark. Whether or not I end up wasting time heading back up to the broken lift, or I end up in the same rooms, seems entirely arbitrary. That one's going to suck trying to speedrun, I'm probably just going to watch someone's run and then just pause constantly to parrot it.

For me CE's melee system doesn't really age that well; it always feels a little cheap when I feel like I've sidestepped an Elite and he still thwacks me, and that makes it a bit harder for me to judge when to time melees. And on Legendary, infection forms turn into a legitimate threat; you're better off making sure you killed them with a pepper of AR fire or a shotgun blast rather than missing the melee and having them deplete your shields.

I actually think I agree with you. AotCR is fun but hot damn that level milks out its length to an insane degree. If they cut off a few of those repetitive circular rooms and bridges then AotCR would probably have surpassed Silent Cartographer as my favorite level in CE. Two Betrayals has the same issues for obvious reasons.

I need this patch so I can consistently play with friends.

That's the only way in guaranteed to never play that AR start cancer

Halo's CE system, especially with regards to the flood spores, is definitely the best/easiest in the series.

Don't waste your time whacking the walkers though, it's pointless.

I'd recommend it with a shotgun, but yes the AR is useless against the transformed flood figures. Only use it on the little carrier pods.

If you aren't using a Shotgun on The Library you're clearly doing it wrong (obviously)

The two best uses for the AR in The Library
--Shooting spores. On Legendary they can be a legit threat especially if your shields are down. Since it wont overheat, has a higher rate of fire, and you'll get more ammo for it during the level I'd recommend it over the Plasma Rifle. You're going to be using the shotgun almost exclusively for the bigger Flood forms so your secondary weapon should be suited for the smaller guys.

--Popping carrier forms from a respectable distance. Yeah, other guns can do that too, but since carrier forms end up creating a few more spores you're already equipped with the right gun for those.
