We're past day one. We're now past week one and the patch hasn't resolved the problems with the game.
Demanding a refund for being duped by a billion dollar corporation into buying their broken product makes the consumer a prick?! Really?? Fuck that, what about my wasted time? The wasted gas dealing with their faulty product? We were there day one and 343 and Microsoft failed to deliver on their end.
And while single player is fine for you, these are old games. I only bought the package for the multiplayer, so what good are campaigns (that were busted themselves) doing me?

Game said no refunds on the console for digital and in store it is known no refunds. So to get one you have to go against the established agreement. It might be sluggish or broken for some me included at times but it is getting better. That is part of it no refunds and we fix it as needed. There was no promise that all parts of this package would be flawless.

Products also have an implied contract of working when you buy them. If they don't, the contact you signed is off the table. MS knows that, which is why they're giving refunds.

Dude really you are arguing that they never said it would be a fully working game?

And how many people got this game and have no idea that it is broke? Just the average dude that does not read the net for much about halo? I bet they are just hanging onto it for the time being and not sure why it doesn't work now but are seeing improvements. How many people just got it and the update and it is fine without knowing about this previous shitshow? How many are getting it from a used trade in and it is fine? I can see that it is defective to us but without the explosion online here and on Reddit and Facebook I would not really know that it is a problem just think maybe not that many people have the game and it is not filling up because of that.

This feels like the iPhones bending. It was huge online and apple claims very few have done it. Maybe once everyone gets this patch and the servers are ready for the load it will be fine - there are even posts here of people not getting the patch and still playing the game so there is a bit of fuckery there right?

Too bad they cant take it down like blizzard does every Tuesday for Warcraft and force fixes on everyone.

If you've tried to play multiplayer more than once, I'd say they'd have to be extremely lucky or extremely dumb to not notice any issues. Even the campaigns have been having issues, and the game has dropped my progress more than once, even between missions. The UI itself is buggy so you will sometimes get images and text from one sub-menu permanently overlaid on your screen until you quit the game.

People have talked on here about the returns they're getting in stores. This is not an internet phenomenon, this is a broken game regardless of how much Reddit you read.

Patch totally worked for me. Took about a minute to get into a game of H2A and played 3 games back to back with the same basic group of guys. All were even teams. 1 game did seem to have lag where players were warping a bit and I died from needles exploding although the enemy wasn't even facing or firing at me.

Is there a way to tell if you are on dedicated? is there a way to check your connection speed vs the other players?

This coming from a guy that was not able to get into more than 1 game at a time, and took hours to get into the last week or so.

You ever drink a bunch of these? I hear they make a cool noise when you finish them.

Bro you should try Destiny. Its made me appreciate that game on a whole new level.

Destiny, to me, is frustrating in a different way. Oh that guy just happens to have a shotgun that can kill me from forever away? Cool cool. It feels very random way too often. Completely agree that the experience of getting games is 1000x better though. COD:AW has a good matchmaking experience as well, but the slightest bit of lag makes the game incredibly frustrating since the TTK is pretty low. I'm just generally unhappy with all my online multiplayer experiences right now (other than maybe Titanfall which has a hilariously low population; BF4 is pretty good these days too).

The only real thing I can think of at this point to make me personally happy would be to release the H5 beta now and fix MCC while everyone is distracted with the beta. That assumes the beta is even in a condition for this to be possible.

Made a similar point in the HaloGAF community thread. I'm pretty sure if they dropped the H5 Beta TOMORROW it would be running better than MCC right now--and that's more due to the fact that H5 is being made virtually exclusively by 343i whereas MCC was more or less a consortium of contracted companies working on all the disparate parts and 343i "slapped it all together".

Yuck. Why play a terrible game just because it has good match-making? I wouldnt even say Destiny has that, since nearly all of the end-game content has zero matchmaking.

Oh you mean for Raids?
Ha yeah thats do it yourself matchmaking for sure.
The crucible is flawless though.

Seriously though, I think it's pretty inexcusable that Destiny doesn't even give you the option for matchmade Weeky/Nightfall strikes and the raid(s). That's probably my biggest gripe with the game right now.

Make it so that there's the option to run them solo or with only people YOU invite, but at least give folks the option to try these other things with matchmaking. I understand the argument with the raid like "oh, then you'll only get scrubs who don't know what they're doing and don't have mics, etc. etc." I seriously get that. But like I said, make it so that there's at least the OPTION for this. Getting FIVE other people together at the same time for a one to two hours isn't exactly the easiest thing in the world for everyone.

I would be okay with this.

I am seriously considering a refund for this. Next to zero motivation to load this broken mess up again.

What the hell. This is like my favorite franchise. Ugh.

Still broken as all hell. Long matchmaking times. uneven teams, says match is full as it attempts to join one, etc. I was hoping the patch would at least provide quick and reliable matchmaking.

Hasn't been my experience so far.

The patch seems to have helped post-game some, like I finally saw people added to fill out a lobby when people left after a game. But as of last night I could not get into a game since I could not get around the updating matchmaking data screen a second time.

For a game that perfected matchmaking this is a step backwards. Call of duty's matchmaking times are so much faster

Don't get me wrong, I am glad this works. But I wish it was a lot faster.

Even if they rolled it out with just the two maps we've seen so far, I'd be happy. Treat it like Destiny did with the Alpha then Beta earlier in the year and roll out the rest of the content in December like originally planned. Just give me something long enough to distract me from the mess that currently is MCC. I've been giving it too much of a pass. I would have completely dropped any other game.

Have we heard anything from 343 today or are they quiet

I haven't seen anything, but they pretty much have to say something today.

Here's what they'll probably say:

"Thank you for being patient with us as we improve performance of MCC. Many players are seeing improvements in matchmaking and performance as a result of yesterday's patch. However, some players are still reporting issues. Yesterday's patch was one of a series of patches that will come over the next few weeks to improve matchmaking and overall game performance. We understand the frustration some of you are experiencing, but please understand that we are working night and day to develop a fix. There will be another patch next week on Monday/Tuesday that we anticipate will increase performance even further. We appreciate your commitment to the Halo series and that you stick with us as we continue to improve on the game."

Please understand.

How can I tell if my Xbox One downloaded the latest update? When I boot the game I just got the popup message that says the update should be available soon and had the patch notes URL but that's it.

Halo is my #1 franchise and gaming brand. I am a huge halo fanboy but this mess is just pathetic and sad.

How in the world could this be such a clusterfuck? It's like farming each portion out to different companies with none of them talking to each other to make sure the integration is perfect.

Regardless, it IS 343 and MS's fault. People have every right to be made because they care about this franchise. All that we ask is please fix it correctly SOON.

It will be this almost identical I bet. Hell, I don't care what they say as long as they explain exactly what is going on and why/how it came to this. Give us some raw info... Tell us the truth... I want details (some of us understand enough about programming etc to make sense of it. I don't admitently lol!)... You already have our money.

I'd be happy with a full explanation (technical) and plan forward... Along with an option for full refund for all up to a certain date. I'll keep waiting for them to fix it if they'll give me that option. U fix or I sell/return.

By now booting the game would prompt you, if not you most likely have it installed.

The xbox one really needs a way to force check updates in the games/app menu.

Yeah, it's pretty frustrating not being able to see what update files were downloaded, ala PS4. Thanks for the info.

I can say I got some matches finally last night much better solo. But wit ha party it was a total nightmare. I also kept getting that "downloading matchmaking data screen" My solution to that was to keep pressing A repeatedly until it finally goes away. Oh well, at least I was able to play more games last night, than I did the week prior. Something I guess.

I never thought I'd be disappointed in Halo. :(

cross-post from the 1th patch thread

I wonder if part of the issues last night was a combination of people trying to download the patch, people with the patch trying to get into games, and people who were still online pre-patch trying to get in games. Maybe the mix of people on different versions screwed something up? Regardless, it was really stupid of them to release the patch so late in the day after people were already online. Release that shit at noon eastern when most people are at school or are at work.

Anyways... All work on Halo 5, and the Halo 5 Beta, should be indefinitely delayed until Master Chief Collection is working properly. This in all likelihood isn't going to happen, but it is what should happen because splitting 343 up between bug fixing MCC and producing Halo 5 is only going to hurt both products.

I wonder if we can get a poll going for the people who have trouble playing.

The matchmaking process is a lot more informative.

Do you get an error message? If not, what does the status say?

I'll start. I can't get games when the game displays "Cannot connect to host." The matchmaking screen pauses on "Connecting to session..." and I have to restart the matchmaking process manually.

Other than that, I can play games. Sometimes on not balanced teams. Medal don't show in Halo 1 and Halo 2 classic. H2A games are always super laggy.

I got hung up on "Players Found" a ton last night.

Admittedly last night was frustrating and weird. After I got the patch my first 3/4 games were solid as hell and finding games was pretty fast. But then after that things progressively slowed down and then I got the "Downloading Matchmaking Data" message (and it seemed like everyone else got it at the same time). After that went away the first time, things were back to being lightning fast for a few matches and then the "Downloading..." message happened again. At that point I quit for the night because I was frustrated.

After work today I'm going to give it another shot because maybe 24 hours later after most people have gotten the patch and the servers have cooled off it will be better. But that Christ I'll have Smash as a backup.

Sometimes you just have to wait a bit for the players to show up.

I think it's the second step in the matchmaking process.

Before the patch, my rule is that if you hear the music track looping, it's time to restart matchmaking.

Halo CE feels so off to me if I'm not host. It's terrible, absolutely terrible. Sometimes you die in a mere second without ever seeing bullet hit indicators on your avatar. Other times random nades kill you even if you're full health, and worse the stupid game types spawn power weapons and power ups every fuckign second. Who thought this was a good idea???? oh and i'm sick of battle creek already. Seems like it's the only map i play in CE.

Fuck this game is so screwed up

omg.

Last night i was sitting there going okay I'm giving this two songs and if it doesn't work I'm backing out.

Then it'd loop and id be sad :(

Im giving a match a 3 song rule when i get home today. If nothing is released from 343 like a statement that is more then bullshit, and if it takes 3 songs to get into a match, returning this game.

Completely agree its an insane omission in the game. I have to schedule a RAID like i'm scheduling a dinner at someones house.

not really. there are probably half a dozen places online where you could set up or fill in a group in less time than it takes to find a match in MCC.

I usually got 10-15 replies in ten minutes when i would use /r/fireteams.
