Why would you search for one playlist without even backing out and claim failure.
It's a failure when I can't play the game type I want. I put in COD, BF, and Destiny and I'm playing the game type of my choosing in under 2 minutes every single time.

EDIT: I hard restarted before my search so everyone knows.

I understand. You could at least try the things posted above. Or back out of the playlist and try again.

Been playing with a friend and we've been able to get into games with relative easy. There have still been unbalanced teams and one time the game started on snowbound even though it had definitely not gotten the most votes. It's still got a ways to go but it's at least working a bit now.

I can find a match alone but when trying to find a match with a friend its still not working. One of us get disconnected and get a full game but not together. Grrr.....

After the few games I had tonight, H1 is fun but 4v4 is far too many people on most of the maps, H2C is way too easy to aim, it's not as good as people say, H2A is fun but not enough map selection, H3 cops too much unwarranted criticism and is the best Halo.

4v4 Slayer is very messy in CE, it's fun if organized teams know what they are doing. For random matchmaking though, it should be 4v4 Objective with 10 second Respawn timers. 2v2 and 3v3 Slayer are a lot more manageable and fun imo.

If 343 is reading this thread can you guys please put in a Team Objective playlist

Thanks

My heaven would be a complete playlist set like this:

  • Halo 1-4 BTB
  • Halo 1-4 Team Objective
  • Halo 1-4 Team Slayer
  • Halo 1-4 FFA

  • Halo 1 BTB, slayer/objective mixed
  • Halo 1 4-12 player mixed
  • Halo 2 Mixed
  • Halo 2A Mixed
  • Halo 3 Mixed
  • Halo 4 Mixed

  • Halo 2/H2A/H3/H4 Lockout/Blackout/Shutout/Lockdown BRs- So that everyone can flock here and they can lessen the frequency in which it appears in the rest of the playlists. I'd like to play another map someday.
  • Halo 2A Bloodline BTB only - Purely my selfish desire. Reliving my time on Halo PC 24/7 Gulch servers. Plus I've only gotten to play this map once since release. Nobody votes for it when they could vote for Lockdown.

That's 12 playlists right there, congratulations you have successfully fragmented and separated the player base completely.

The first 4 are fine, then they can rotate playlists for specific games and game types every week like Bungie does for Destiny. Although 342 has many more options to work with there.

The MCC had exactly 12 playlists at launch before getting gimped due to issues.

Depending on how they have their servers set up, many of these playlists can overlap and share players as it sets up the game. Players from the first four could easily be matched into games from the rest effectively making the list only 8 long. And those last two I dont seriously expect to happen making it 6 long practically speaking. Then again I guess I can't expect their servers to be smart like that, so let's just say it's 10 long. Still two less than 343's official list at launch.

Besides, how many playlists does COD have now? 15? Havent noticed any sort of lack of players there.

All of these Matchmaking suggestions is why there needs to be a Customs Games Browser.

Correct, I wouldnt give a shit about playlists if I only had a custom games browser. It's 2014, it's possible, it's already been done a bunch of times successfully on consoles. Why is this still a concern?

Well, I can't remember seeing any kind of overlap like that in Halo before, not to mention their matchmaking still doesn't work... So I doubt they could get it working properly or reliably.

It's hilarious that you bring up CoD, though. Because CoD probably has a noticeably higher player count nowadays than Halo does. Besides, those games have some good population retention, anyway.

I dont see how that is hilarious but I suppose Halo would have a higher player count if this game worked on release.

I did note that, as well as criticisng that same decision myself then. So it did go to 343. I'm not targeting or making fun of you. Although, you're starting to make me wish I was.

I said it's funny to compare CoD to Halo because past Halo 3, Halo hasn't really seen the population numbers that CoD has. Even then, iirc, H3 was battling CoD4 for the top spot then. If you checked the top 20 played from Major Nelson last couple years, multiple CoDs have consistently stayed in the top 10, while Halo dropped. This is something known, and I thought it was hilarious that we are comparing Halo population numbers to CoD in the year two-thousand and fourteen.

well, in my friendlist I see the most played games the last ten days, and mcc is number one.
then gta, then horizon 2, then cod advanced, followed by dragon age and destiny.
master chief has double the number of people played than number 2, gta.
and while in my 360 my friendlist was limited to 100 people, without that (hated) limitation my list contains hundreds of people. so its not a very narrow sample or something.

ps.
could be helpful that people that say that either a) mcc works pretty well for them or b) mcc does not work, to also write where they are at at the time, maybe in some countries it works better than in others.. (<<tier 2>> countries I'm looking at you!)

ps2
weird, during the time I was writing this, my local peeps called me up to say that they've been consistently and rapidly getting match after match in match making, and it has not dropped/separated them yet.
strange, thats not how it worked yesterday. so gotta run, gotta check :)
hopefully I will have a good thing to say afterwards...
(looking at you 343!)
:)

I don't know if I'm just unlucky, but around 90% (no exaggeration) of games I play begin with 9 or 7 players and it was still happening post patch. They still need to sort of number balancing.

Tried the patch, still had a crash, lost my party multiple times, had a random matchmaking person become host. One game in 30 mins with a friend and we bailed to play gears 3 again. Gears 3 matchmaking takes about 30 second to find a game in comparison to halo.

I find the design a bit poor, there's just too much loading going on. If you went into the players found screen and got to load the maps so that the game could load whilst putting you into the game the wait time would be reduced significantly. Instead its minutes to get a list of players, then at least a min or two loading the map.

Will try again in a week's time after the next patch....

Same for me! MCC was a big thing for a lot of people, which was why I didn't include it in my comparison to CoD populations. Just talking about the general trend that the last few years have been. It's still way too early to see what kind of damage the launch troubles have done to the MCC population.

So broken. Got a match when the game started it went to a screen that just said game over. It left all the people in my party. The put us in a custom game lobby. What the hell is going on with this game? It just dose random shit all the time.

The newest update helped a lot (game every 1-2 minutes), H2-4 is fine, but Halo CE is essentially broken, I prefer XBC to this tbh.

Doing OK over here.

Lame that it doesn't show the map in the post-game carnage report. But, thankfully it shows that it was a BTB match twice, in case you're not paying attention. That was Sidewinder, btw.

Would Halo pistol act like host pistol if it was dedicated servers?
I've played some matches where it felt almost like host for everyone I was partied with, so it's pretty good when it works.

The thing that continues to stab Halo in the gut.

Halo 5 seriously needs one already and if that wasn't a priority going into development after years of fans literally begging for this, then what a disappointment that would be. Imagine if there was a Custom Games Browser in Halo 3 and people were all playing with 110% base speed? Might have sent a message to Bungie to speed up the game.

Doing a hard reset definitely did something for me

Not for me. Also tried deleting local save files. This game is a mess. I am so disappointed. I even had a countdown for this game since E3. I was so eager to play my favorite games but now I don't even know what to say. :(
