If you have something to tide you over for a year (I have loads of PS3 games), then you can buy PS4 games for cheap when you buy one.
So while not saving on the hardware, you do save on some games.

I feel like this thread is further validation of what I was talking about when I made this thread.
Sony have made their PS3 lineup so appealing this year it's actually hurting their PS4 sales pitch this year. They should have done more to ensure the PS4 had a more appealing exclusive lineup at launch, because the last thing they want is to lose those people (like me) to the XB1 launch.

I'm stoked for Titan fall as well, but going the PC route. I'm positive it'll make it's way to ps4 as well at some point
Then don't get one. I don't see why people try and talk themselves into liking something like this. You just said you're not really hyped about a single game coming out for the system. It's a no brainer.
Ehh. Why drop the cash if you're not going to use it much? What harm is there in holding off until you actually want games on the system?

Something else I don't understand is the constant stream of people who feel like they have to come out and announce "I'm not buying it day one" or "I'm canceling my preorder."
None of us buying the new consoles at launch particularly care, and would probably prefer to actually talk about games, hardware, etc.

Getting in day 1 on a console (or nearly any product) launch is not for everyone. Software quantity and more subjectively quality will always be limited at launch, and there will undoubtedly be growing pains as well for those first 6-12 months, where the OS will undergo many changes to accommodate owner's demands. Let's be real not everyone has the patience or understanding to put up with those things.
However, there are people like me that love new products. That like getting in at launch and discovering all of the things that product has to offer while at the same time playing a part in how the future of that product is shaped through feedback and such. It's exciting to me and personally can't wait and already have my PS4 fully paid off. I couldn't care less what games are available at launch because I am going to try and play most of them for at least a little bit just to experience it all.
So don't feel bad if you cancel your preorder, you may have done so hastily because of hype in the first place, because product launches simply aren't for everybody. Just understand that for many of us it is more than just the games, and we are excited to play about any game on our shiny new toy. lol

If going by last generation it might be a long time before these machines get a price drop. Look at the current pricing 7-8 years later. I am not excited about the launch games but will still get it anyways. I love new hardware and there will be a few early gems I will want to play. The way I see it I can pay 399.99 and get 5-6 years out of it. Or wait a year and pay 399.99 and get 4-5 years out of. The closest to a price drop will be some holiday bundle fall 2014. By then sure both games will be PS+ anyways.

Agreed. That's why I think Titanfall is hitting at exactly the perfect time. Spring 2014 will be perfect for new IP's to stake a claim between heavy hitters like Battlefield/COD/Halo.
You know those "weird Japanese games" that are called "gems"? Those are the games I'm most interested in now. It seems that those games are appearing on the 3DS and Vita. Surprisingly, it is the Vita I am more interested in now. (And I can't forget about indie games, I haven't tried any yet but when I see so many highly rated indie games, I'm starting to warm up to the idea of downloadable games). Here's to hoping TGS shows some cool stuff for the PS4, because so far Square mentioning "Direct X" has me holding off on a PS4 and XboxOne in the anticipation of more PC games in the future.
And also, this generation is has been milked and dragged for so long. Do game developers really enjoy butchering their games to get them on the hardware when they could present their games in the best way, rendering them in 1080p on the new hardware? There's so many games still upcoming for PS3 for instance, wouldn't they like to render their games in higher resolutions with better textures?

I'm waiting for reports and impressions regarding the Vita functionality. If it works well enough I wouldn't mind being an early adopter. I don't think the launch games make it particularly appealing to own but I like to fiddle with new gadgets and wonder how the user interface will come together. If the Vita functionality blows I think I'll just get a new video card and an Oculus Rift
I'm in Day One, maybe on both consoles since I pre-ordered both right after the E3 shows, likely just the PS4 at launch tho. I get the feeling is MS doesn't price cut before launch, it'll definitely do it in the first year, probably next holiday, then I'm definitely in for both, and then I'll be able to pick up Dead Rising 3 for a song if it's good

Whilst TitanFall and InFamous are great for early 2014 (it's a shame TitanFall is PC and 360 as well, otherwise Microsoft could have really drawn people in), we need to know about the rest of the years line up too. These games are still towards the front end of the launch window. I'm more interested in the mid to end stages, where I assume we'll get more graphically meaty titles that really show off the consoles capabilities.
TitanFall looks really fun, but I'm disappointed it's an online only game running on ageing source engine. Doesn't really scream next gen to me, at least tech and graphics wise.

I will play wait and see on XBox One since MS doesn't have any first party stuff that interests me. Not to mention getting the 360 launch screw job. I went through 4 of them with the good old RROD.

I was in a similar boat but decided to go ahead and get it this year since the faster, quieter blu-ray player is a big deal for me. Might sound silly, but since I'd planned on getting one when Infamous SS comes out anyway, I might as well make the jump, I figured. The much improved Dualshock 4 further sweetens the deal.
Have to wait till Gamescom to see if the launch lineup is more to my tastes. Right now the only one I have even a vague interest in is Infamous.
Definitely hoping to buy a PS4 sooner than later, though. Within the first year is likely.

I agree the PS4 launch lineup could be better... but i am still 100% in day one. I've got high hopes for KZ:SF, and i absolutely cannot wait for Second Son.
I am equally excited for non gaming aspects of the system like Netflix. I use the PS3 all the time for Netflix and it's GUI is so cumbersome as a result of the limited system resources. Can't wait to see the performance increase of Netflix (and other applications) on the PS4.

I also can't wait to move my PS3 upstairs and have it replace my Roku box, which is infuriatingly slow at times and the PS3 Hulu and Netflix apps are leaps and bounds better than Roku's. Plus I get a Blu Ray Player upstairs, Win Win Win.
Only 4 out of the 8 games you listed are launch window games. So don't see how it justifies getting on day one.
Unless Sony does an 180, I will definitely keep my preorder. The only thing negative I can think is the potential reliability problems of the 1st model, but the rest is there for me: Price is exactly at the maximum price I would give for a console (same price I bought X360 and PS3) and pricedrops are not going to happen soon, games at launch are more than enough to support a new console and I know that great games will continue to arrive in the years to come.
Also to me Battlefield 4 next-gen feels like an exclusive for Xbone/PS4 compared to X360/PS3 versions.

I need to see something better than what has been shown so far. If they can't convince me at Gamescom or TGS, this will be the first Playstation launchday I've missed since the PS2. Battlefield 4 is the one game I'm looking forward to at launch, and even it just seems like Battlefield 3.5.

There are games coming out that are cross gen that I'm interested in playing a better version of (BF4, AC4, Watch Dogs), and I'm interested enough in at least KZ:SF to go ahead and jump in. The faster the next gen install base happens, the faster that good games will come out, cross gen games will go away (that could hold them back), etc.

1. Games will come out eventually.
2. Aside from 360, I've never had a problem with launch hardware. Still rocking my 20gb launch ps3.
3. There's never a point in time where that won't be true, so it becomes a matter of how much you're personally willing to spend. A 50-100 dollar price drop over the course of a year or two is absolutely negligible to me.
Besides, if everybody waited for a pricedrop, people like you wouldn't have consoles to buy.
How do you know? We still have Gamescom, the possible Sony event before TGS, and TGS itself. Plenty of chances for Sony to announce more games for launch.

I bought the 360/ps3 6-7 years after they were out. The Wii u was the first console I bought at launch. I won't be doing that again. I've learned my lesson.

I am in a slightly different boat. I have both the PS4 and the XBOXone paid off in full. My issue is that we are moving our of our house in the next two weeks (into the inlaws basement) while construction/ remodeling is done to our home. The estimated completion date is late January early February. So I will have 2 brand new next gen consoles sitting in boxes until we move back into the house. The good news is that I am getting a mancave room built. So I am going to hopefully be busy with purchasing things like a couch and chair, entertainment center, and anything else I might need. I plan to pimp it out!!!
