Hercules first trailer

I kinda dig it.
CGI backgrounds, CGI creatures, generic colour palette and production design, just get tired of it.
Well fwiw, this set is real:

I got cut off at the end of the first page, so:

Has Ratner or anyone else actually said that the fantasy elements are being brought into to this story? Because in the comic I remember they were barely a footnote; impossible deeds that characters talked about to obscure the truth with glorious legend, while the man himself remained silent to their veracity.

The original press release mentioned it was a grounded approach with no supernatural elements. From reading the books
I'm surprised they'd even dedicate that much money and resources for the 12 Labors considering the circumstances like you said.

I haven't finished reading all of the book but at one point it seems like the grand scheme of things points towards an attack on Zeus at one point?

Two Hercules movies this year and none of them had an actor that fits or looks like what the character should really look like. The Rock there looks more like bearded Scorpion King than Hercules. Guess they'll never learn.

From the trailer the movie looks like one of those generic movies that's all special effects to compensate the lack of all the rest trying to be cool.

Eh. Not feeling that at all. It is early and I do like Dwayne Johnson but that was really underwhelming all the way down to the 80's rock video style font.

And what happened to the 'non supernatural' take on the character? Three headed wolves and sea monsters? Hmmm.

I've got a feeling that the Ratner has been up to his old tricks again.

This is so bad it actually downgrades Dwayne's acting pedigree.

Is he desperate to stay relevant/active/need money or something?

I hear he's a workaholic. A lot of showbiz is down time between projects and evidently Dwayne would rather be doing something...., anything other than just sitting about.

So perhaps this constant desire to work means that he's more open to projects that others might pass on.

What downgrade? That's the other movie about Hercules coming out this year.
I know, but I didn't even know about this one until now. It's not like I think they replaced the actor.

Oh my God this post.

What is it? Both are average-mediocre actors (one of them isn't even an actor per se). At least Kellan Lutz provides sexiness from head to toes, while this The Rock guy provides fake steroids, shouting and angry eyebrows. Forgive me for preferring the first one for this popcorn movie.

If it's about the "will watch for the gratuitous CGI action", well, I can't think of another reason people could have to watch this.

I actually got a little hyped. It's fucking Ratner so I'm not expecting much more than a popcorn movie but I think at the very least it will be entertaining and the visuals looked pretty nice.

this looks real dumb

also, his big "HERCULEEEEES" scream at the end is on par with Darth Vader's "Nnnnoooooooo!" or Zachary Quinto's "Khaaaan!" as far as hilariously awkward yells go.

Looks worse than The Scorpion King... which is an achievement in itself.

The sad truth is I will probably still go and see it.

The only thing that interests me about this is seeing how it performs compared to the other Hercules that came out a couple of months ago — should be a good test of Dwayne's star power.

Okay so watched it just now and i think this movie looks great and will probably be stunning in 3d. the only problem i have is i think the rock should be bald. i dont like his wig and it breaks immersion. i dont think his hair could grow that long naturally

Yea he should have been bald with that beastly beard he has. Would have been a much better look. Either way this looks awesome

I didn't think the trailer was too bad until the "I AM HERCULES" part, and then before I could finish feeling embarrassed, they threw in this extended shot of him doing his best Macauly Culkin impression.

The movie looks good! The only problem is the trailer has some bad edit choice such as wearing the lion's head and the last scene in particular.

Looks fun by virtue of the fact that it's The Rock playing Hercules in a big budget action epic but Brett Ratner's direction seems as utterly pedestrian as ever.
