I thought I read that Animatrix was in HD. I forget where. Either AVS or hidefdigest. But I was under the impression it's in HD.

its 3 movies...but its also 5 Discs with a shiton of information :)

Amazon has it on preorder for $83.95

If you don't need the fourth and fifth discs, I calculate to a 95% certainty that the other, cheaper Matrix HDDVD collection will be under $60 online. I predict $58-something.

It'll be $69.99.

Amazon pricing is 30 percent off.

Any reason why Chicken Little will fill the whole screen on my tv, but my other bluray movies won't?

Different aspect ratios.

Chicken Little's aspect ratio is 1.78:1...the exact same as a 16:9 screen(16 divided by 9=1.78 rounded off). By comparison, Happy Feet's aspect ratio is 2.40:1...so when played on a 16:9 screen, there will be black bars. There are also movies with an aspect ratio of 1.85:1(such as The Holiday), which is not as wide as 2.40, but still wider than 1.78, so you'll have black bars, but smaller than a 2.40 movie. Oh, and just for reference, SDTV's 4:3 screen is equal to 1.33:1

Check out www.highdefdigest.com they provide pretty detailed specs such as aspect ratio, video codecs, audio formats etc

Does anyone really need any of these Matrix extras anymore. I mean, I really don't need to hear anymore self important documentaries concerning these movies trying to explain how "deep" its philosophy is when I can get the same damn information out of a plot FAQ off the internet.

I'd rather The Matrix be sold as a standalone release than as part of a boxed set. I'd prefer to forget the sequels even existed.

I think just about everyone would and I think the studio knows that. That's the reason we're getting a box set and not a stand alone version. They know that everyone is going to go batshit insane when Matrix hits HD formats, so why not bundle it when they know they can get that extra cash? Studios are all about the money, everyone here probably all ready knows that (I'm not saying you don't).

The Digital Bits says something negative about a major HD-DVD release? YOU DON'T SAY!

If the Animatrix wasn't HD then there is no reason for it to be a double sided HD-DVD.

I'll be surprised if Happy Feet on HDDVD doesn't outsell the BD version. If only for the fact that the BD version doesn't have a lossless audio track and people need to quit buying these gimped BD releases. I'd hope any dual format supporter would buy the HDDVD version for that alone.

Just bought Rocky Balboa and Black Hawk Down last night on Bluray.

Rocky looks unreal. Visually, it's probably one of the best looking Bluray transfers I've seen. Black Hawk Down is also pretty, but the area it really shines in is sound - the movie sounds ****ing awesome.

Check em out, you won't be dissapointed.

Frustratingly enough, the first version of the Matrix was one of the first DVDs that came out. Don't think it's ever been released again outside of a collection. :( How bout a new transfer Wachumpskis?

They did do a new transfer and color correction for it in the DVD set.

yeah just watched Rocky tonight. Great film with an outstanding picture :)

The Matrix sequels may not be great films but they have great scenes in them. The mansion fight, and freeway chase in the second and the entire Zion Battle in the third is enough for me to want to see them in HD again.

The Zion battle was horrible. Giant mechs fighting robo squids, they spent waaay too much time on that part and should rather have tried to switch back and forth with other dilemmas.

Ice-Age 2, The Wild and Open Season look great on Blu-Ray on my PS3
But Click, Gone in 60 Seconds and Flight Plan aint that much better?

WHY? I was expecting awesomeness on all Blu-Ray conversions? What’s the problem?

Ugh. I so never wanted to remember that scene. Full of characters you don't give a damn about, disappointed that they don't all just die at the end of it... There were some good bits in Revolutions, but that wasn't one of them.

The Matrix: One of the best movies of its decade, a tour de force that innovates through technology with breathtaking visuals, great storytelling, and a dynamic cast.

The Matrix Reloaded: Somewhat dissapointing sequel that retains many of the qualities that made the first movie great, however, ends up being simply a very good action movie.

The Matrix Revolutions: Confusing, unpredictable, and completely out of touch with the first two movies. A complete disaster from what started as one of the most innovative ideas film had seen in years.

Oh my mistake. I must have mis-read that. The value of that set just went for a a nose dive as far as I'm concerned.

It goes like this. Matrix > Animatrix > Matrix 2 & 3 > Self righteous praise documentaries.

That set is useless without HD Animatrix!

This is MADNESS!

Just got my PS3 a couple weeks ago. Just bought my first two Bluray movies over the weekend. Rocky Balboa, and Casino Royale.

I'm really wondering what you guys think about the pricing strategy these studios are using right now. Does anyone else think they could be selling these things like hotcakes if they just priced them a bit more reasonably? I'm not even saying the same price as regular DVD, but just lower than where they are now.

I"d like to see the day and date release of Bluray movies, and have them be on sale at Best Buy for $19.99, while the regular DVD would likely be $16.99. I think that would be fair, and I think Bluray movies would be moving even faster than they already are. It's just a shame that they desperately want to try and stick it to the early adopters. I think it just helps perpetuate the idea that these new formats are only for the rich right now. Sure, I just bought two movies, but I know i'm not gonna be buying them regularly until they come down to the $20 range.

IT seems like it woudl make total sense for Sony to say "We need to outprice HD-DVD", and i'm suprised these two formats haven't begun competing for price already. It just seems obvious that if one began to dramatically outprice the outher, they'd have a big upper hand.

I think the Blu-Ray movies are reasonably priced.

DVD's usually sell for around $26-$30 for major releases. Blu-Ray movies at Future or Best Buy is usually around that range. So no, I don't feel like I've gotten ripped off. I got Casino Royale for $29.99, I think that's reasonable.

Sounds like HDDVD is going to have a 100 dollar player out this summer... should be interesting to see what that does for sales... it also means you could see some Black Friday door buster HDDVD offers that could be insanely low as well.

Edit: if animatrix isnt in HD, the ultimate collection is absolutely uselss.

For that price I may go dual format. I hadn't heard about one that low before, I thought the "$200 street price players" were all we were going to see this year.

Things are priced at what they "can be" not what they "should be"(which is subjective anyway). Right now the HD market is a hardcore/enthusiast market. Once that market is tapped fully, then prices will come down a bit, and the market will expand, and so on. Companies are going to try to maximize each and every market at each and every price point. DVDs weren't the "$14.99 first week of new release" price that they are now when they first came out...plus you have to have some kind of significant price differential so as not to "de-value" the new HD market. Also, profit margins on DVDs now are really narrow, so that price range is not attractive to studios.

Days like these...

Have a Blessed Day

http://w.engadgethd.com/2007/03/25/meet-the-venture-shd7000-hd-dvd-player/

There aren't many details about the Venture SHD7000, besides it plays HD DVD movies. We are assuming it has the mandatory HD DVD requirements of persistent storage, network interface and HDi support but other then that, we have nothing. Hopefully when more details emerge, they will include a price of around $100 and a launch date that is sooner then later. Just when you thought the format wars where dying down, here come the Chinese. FYI - Venture is based out of Canada with a Chinese manufacturing partner, Alco

Its all rumor at this point, but several different websites are saying so.... its going to be a cheap chinese player for sure.. its part of 12 new players being launched over 40 brands (i.e. different names slapped on the same hardware) worldwide by year end.

but at 99 bucks, that Xmas gift price range for my family.. my parents dont care about lossless audio or 1080p, so it'll work for them (my dad actually only plays sound through the DD5.1 system when Im over, otherwise he uses the TV speakers :lol )

Interesting indeed, may pick one up if this 100$ price point is true (for Canadians...).

And wrt your dad. Do you come over often? Cause he may as well just have feed his money to goats. It would have given an interesting story... :/

Yeah, I also calibrated his TV with a coloromitor when I bought that for him... he adjusted it right back to overblown contrast, way to bright, black levels that are greyish, green push and sharpness maxed out.

I try to get him hooked up with top level stuff, but he just doenst care. :lol

He'll likely never buy an HDDVD either and figure DVD is good enough.

LOL, my neighbour bought a 47" HDTV and didn't bother with HD cable tv. So now everything is a stretched out mess.

I'm pretty sure my TV needs calibrating. I find it tough to calibrate it (just eyeballing it) correct enough for the flesh tones. Some movies are fine, but some other movies (Casino Royale) everyone has a redish tint. Like too much blush. But i think my blacks are black enough.

The only thing the should have done to improve it was get someone who knows about guns in there to show these clueless actors how to wield guns without looking like idiots. Seriously. But hey, it's still pretty cool.

FWIW, highdefdigest actually commented that Casino Royale had this problem as a disk. If you want something roughly correct go buy avia (its easier to use than DVE). Its very likely your contrast and sharpness are WAAAY to high. Most people think properly set up contrast looks blurry.. but if you give it a week to adjust the 3d effects you get will be 10x better.

It also comes with color filters to let you get your color decoding close to right.
