Hopsin will go down as one of the GOATs.

He only raps about real shit and he's bringing the genre back from the dead cause it died with 2pac

Even if you didn't like A Tribe Called Quest's The Low End Theory, please don't let that put you off of listening to Midnight Marauders. I honestly don't like Tribe's other albums that much, but Midnight Marauders is one of my favorite albums from anyone ever.

On top of that, look into all of Q-Tip's solo albums, they are all incredible

Not hip-hop.

Come on. I'm giving recommendations based on the OP's said tastes. He listed some of what most would consider non hip-hop records, but they reflected what he currently enjoys.

My first intro into hip-hop was Tupac, and I fell in love. However when I first heard Illmatic I couldn't get into it. A year after that I realized it was incredible and had no idea why I didn't love it to begin with. Everyone has a different path to discovery.

OP, as far as common goes most of his previous albums to be are straight 90s influenced hip-hop which isn't bad at all. in fact I love like water for chocolate, but be is when his albums started becoming a bit more accessible to people just getting into the genre like you. finding forever, the successor to be is pretty experimental in its sound (at least as far as common is concerned). if you want to delve deeper into his discography I strongly suggest listening to his latest affair titled "The dreamer, The believer".

I strongly endorse this

Hip hop may be a combination of several elements, but it is, at its heart, a lyrical based genre. You can enjoy it for whatever reasons you like obviously, but in my opinion if you don't care about the lyrics then you're really missing out on the bulk of what the genre has to offer and what most of its adherents are so passionate about.

hip-hop heads are so annoying. when did music stop being about music and only about lyrical content? if that's the case there's no reason for beat making to begin with.

Straight up hip hop that is actually good.

The jazz fusion comment was the only joke. Hip Hop is starting to seem lame. I want to make a longer post to say why, but I'm busy.

Lupe Fiasco Lasers is pretty good. Good radio hip-hop

Yuck, This isn't a good album.
"Food and Liquor", and "The Cool" on the other hand are almost Illmatic perfection.

Illmatic
Eminem- The SlimShady LP
Dr Dre- The Cronic
Lauryn Hill- The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill
Method Man- Tical

Just some from probably hundreds off the top of my head.
