It wasn't a bad game at all. In what way was it bad? Was it the 50 player online multi? The vast array of vehicles? Huge well designed maps? Great useful and very balanced class system? The unique drone vehicles? The multiplayer ranking based on team play instead of k/d? The Frontline mechanic that forced tactical teamwork instead of lone wolf tactics? The best surround sound audio on a console game to that point eclipsing that of Bad Company? The destructible environments?

Or maybe because you never played it.

No. The gunplay and vehicle implementation was just poor. You know the core gameplay.

Well, after a session of playing, leveled up to 22. MP at 32 players (to me) is a little to chaotic for my taste. The 16 man rooms I enjoy best. Oh and the SCAR is a fucking beast in this game. Getting close to the M16 so we'll see how that shapes up. I'm having a lot of fun with the MP. I just hope they put in some patch work with connecting with games. Also I've ran into a few games where the lag is out of control. What gives?

The vehicles were fine. The gameplay was decent too. But the gunplay... I swear it felt like a Time Crisis FPS. So bad. FoW made The Club look like gun porn.

Saw it yesterday on a PS3. Looks terrible, jesus, looks like a 1st generation title at best. Heck i think COD2 is much easier on the eyes...

Note to developers porting multiplayer console games to a PC: A mouse is not a gamepad. Therefore that Sniper rifle you balanced for gamepad use, with its slow inaccurate aiming is not acceptable on the PC.

Having a sniper rifle that is rapid fire, no sway and is a one hit kill from the crotch up does not a balanced weapon make. I just topped the leaderboard twice without even trying by picking sniper and I'm really not very good.

Wow. Most controversial title of 2011, this early in? My heart goes out to the dev, I think they did a really good job in a very crowded field.

I have to say, while the SP is currently incredibly linear the actual gameplay within it is better than Blops. It also looks much better. There are some really stunning visual moments in the game by around the 4th or 5th chapter.

The story actually is working for me unlike any COD game (and I love COD2 and enjoyed MW and MW2) The campaign has some of the most memorable moments I've seen in a contemporary set FPS.

Still, no Halo by a huge margin. It is about as good as Killzone 3 on average right now because that game swings from great to awful like a damn pendulum.

I'd be playing multi but can't get into a game.

The only real complaint I have so far in the SP is why does the character move like Frankenstein when your in the non combat areas? They could of at least made him walk a little bit faster.

Man I was psyched for this game just because I bust a nut someone even mentioning Red Dawn. (I even have a Wolverine's tattoo.)

I know that even if this game isn't 5-Star quality, I'll still be able to enjoy it for the same reason I love Red Dawn.

However, I'd be curious to get some comparison pics of the PC/360/PS3 versions of Homefront to the respectable version of BlOps, since that seems to be the game everyone is comparing the graphics to for whatever reason.

I would take the 360 version. I think they've really badly represented the Xbox 360 version for texture pop in, but that's nothing to worry about.

I think the lighting is far superior on the 360 version. It's surprising just how much different they both are. I haven't seen such a botchy port job in a long time.

Glad it's PC for me.

I'm really enjoying this game so far. Not sure what the beef is.

Same here..I`m only 2 chapters in on the SP but it`s been pretty good so far...sure the graphics aren`t KZ3 but there is just as much detail in the environnements and all,the explosions you trigger are great as well and there was one pretty cool moment I enjoyed at the end of chapter 2,if the rest is this good, even though it`s short,i`ll be satisfied with the SP...on the 360,I keep seeing the scrolling message about troubles with the server and they are working on it so I didn`t try online yet...

Game is fun and has some cool ideas for sure, but good gotdamn its short. I'm 3 1/2 hours in and I just started the last chapter. Probably gonna clock in at 4 hours, maybe a little more.

Seems very Call of Duty to me. Multiplayer is all been there done that, but its entirely serviceable if you can get into a fucking game. Overall, I'm glad I rented it because I almost didn't play it, but I wouldn't want to take the $60 plunge.

PS- All the game journos hyping up the game's "emotional toll" are full of shit. There's some cool stuff in the game, but the impact is lost because its presented in such CoD fashion. I'm a bit disappointed after hearing somebody on Weekend Confirmed talk about it like it haunted them.

Yea that ini tweak didn't work. So basically I can't use vehicles or drones. This is awesome.

That combined with the campfest map design, hilariously overpowered sniper weapons and overly busy clustered maps is turning this into my worst purchase of the year. What a waste.

Ini tweak worked wonders for me...but even prior to that, vehicles/drones were usable.

Disagree with everything else you said.

SCAR is a beast (and the weapon model is sexy)...but I also just unlocked the grenade launcher for the ACR. Choices, choices! Except for the actual weapon selection, of course--hope they expand this in the future.

Based on the MP alone, I don't regret my purchase at all. Lots of fun, and with the longer matches, it allows more time for each team to dig in and really has a nice push/pull feel to it.

I dont get the hate for this game. I'll admit, its not the prettiest game, but I had a lot of fun with the multiplayer last night. (I typically dont touch the single player of FPS)

I was having a blast with my air recon drones (with thick skin and extra fuel). My best game was 16 kills, 2 deaths, and 19 assist. Battle Commander is a blast, and I actually didnt run into snipers really at all. Im really looking forward to getting back to this after work.

It's just so goddamn blatent. It's only really shocking because nobody else has really tried to address this in the same way Homefront has, and even then the overall message is diluted because it doesn't have a fucking clue what it is. Is war hell? Who knows! Go kill these Korean guys, they're all evil motherfuckers.

Exact same experience as mine, glad others are giving the game a chance.

Some info on removing the FPS cap, mouse smoothing, and disabling intro movies:

disable fps cap and remove mouse lag:
1) close the game
2) go to ..\My Documents\My Games\HOMEFRONT\GCGame\Config
3) open GCEngine.ini
4) find and edit: bSmoothFrameRate=false UseVsync=false UseFPSSmoothing=false
5) save and close GCEngine.ini
6) open GCInput.ini
7) find and edit: bEnableMouseSmoothing=false
8) save and close GCInput.ini
9) load the game, click options, click system, check and uncheck v sync, click apply (this forces the game to read the updated configs)

turn off start movies:
1) close the game
2) go to ..\My Documents\My Games\HOMEFRONT\GCGame\Config
3) open GCEngine.ini
4) find and edit: bShouldStopMovieAtEndOfLoadMap=true ;+StartupMovies=LegalScreen_PC ;+StartupMovies=THQ ;+StartupMovies=ThreeLogos ;+StartupMovies=DE_Logo ;+StartupMovies=NVidia ;+StartupMovies=HomeIsLogo
5) save and close GCEngine.ini that's it!

if any of the above steps don't work for you, i suggest you start clean by deleting the auto-generated user configs and editing the master default configs. here's how:

delete user configs:
1) close the game
2) go to ..\My Documents\My Games\HOMEFRONT\GCGame\Config
3) delete GCEngine.ini and GCInput.ini (WARNING: this will erase all of your current Homefront settings)

disable fps cap and remove mouse lag:
1) go to ..\Steam\steamapps\common\homefront\Engine\Config
2) open BaseEngine.ini
3) find and edit: bSmoothFrameRate=false UseVsync=false UseFPSSmoothing=false
4) save and close BaseEngine.ini
5) open BaseInput.ini
6) find and edit: bEnableMouseSmoothing=false
7) save and close BaseInput.ini
8) load the game, click options, click system, check and uncheck v sync, click apply

Steering clear of all the naysaying, I'm super-hyped for the multiplayer side of things. I'm more a Battlefield man than a COD'er (full disclosure, I've played less than half an hour of any COD in my gaming career), so the open maps and all their intricacies within suit rather nicely.

Between this, Brink and Section 8 Prejudice (also throwing in Blacklight 2), I'm set for shooty-shoot antics.

I have a friend telling me that it is more of a COD-type game than Battlefield, other than the map sizes. I just find it tough to get into an FPS that isn't built with the Frostbite engine.

I've been checking out some vids on Youtube...very curious, although the movement pace is a little more Battlefield thankfully and combat options for support roles looks nice and fleshed out.

Give me room to churn tanks around a map and I'm happy. :D

I guess its a experiences may vary type deal, but as someone that has put a ton of time in both CoD:BLOPS/MW2 and BFBC2, I would personally say it feels much more like Battlefield than CoD.

Agree 100%.

Im digging the story and the atmosphere though. Kaos holds no punching in portraying and occupied America.

Good to read, sir. I was contemplating BC2 for PC after a long hiatus after burning out on the PS3 version, so Homefront comes at a good time. And Unreal engine...I mean, according to systemrequirementslab.com / Can I Run This?, my laptop will run this smoothly indeed. Just what the doctor ordered.

So, you reckon there'll be a nice community grown out of this, particularly the PC version? Seems like it's fallen quite nicely after the CODBLOPS hubbub and well before any Battlefield 3 rears its gigantic head...

...any predictions?

Interesting - it sure doesn't seem like it from the videos I have seen. I want a new FPS to play as BFBC2: Vietnam is getting far too much play w/ me lately.

Multiplayer is great. It is closer to CoD in feel; the weapons and movement aren't weighty, death comes fast, and there's no destruction. But the scale is great, the maps are fantastic, and the battlepoint system, drones and vehicles add another layer that elevates it way beyond CoD.

Basically if CoD was a pokemon this would be it's evolved form.

Nah, definitely not COD-ish. I can't stand COD--could never get into it. Maybe TDM feels more like COD, but Ground Control is like a mix of BF/BC's Conquest mode (as far as capturing point) and Rush mode (as far as map advancing goes), and feels like it, too.

I'd say the gunplay is more COD than BF, but I kinda prefer that. The gun sounds are much better than COD, but people aren't bullet sponges like in BF/BC. I like BC2 Vietnam because the weapons deal more damage and feel lethal. Guns are very lethal in Homefront.

I think it will have a solid following on the PC, at least until BF3 is released, haha.

Okay, so we've got some polarity here. Some say it's COD'y, others Battlefield-esque! Curiouser and curiouser!

As for Battlefield it's really made with vehicles as a core component and they feel more integrated; as soon as you start a game there are tanks rolling and choppers flying around, whereas in Homefront it seems to be more of an infantry game where vehicles are the exception rather than the rule, although the drones do have a large presence.

It's really a little of both with a few twists of it's own.

It's a shame that a game with almost universally good MP reviews and metacritic of 75% (FWIW) is considering a bomb/shitty game.

It is a shame. I mean, if you're looking for something new in the world of FPS, I definitely would recommend this game. Granted, the servers need work (could only get into Skirmish and BC Skirmish last night, 360 version), GC needs to be longer, and Im sure more things will arise, but everything else was great. A very good sense of familiarity mixed in with it being something different as well (especially BC mode).

I'm pretty positive this is server-configured. Rounds the first day were lasting like ~5-10 mins, total, and yesterday each set of capture points took a lot longer.

I was only able to get like 30 minutes of solid multiplayer in last night but over all I really enjoyed it. There are some interesting twists and tweaks to the standard formula that I like. It's not as good as Battlefield BC 2 on PC and it isn't as pretty as Black Ops but it is a lot of fun and I was sick to death of blops.

I don't regret the purchase at all.

If you're playing on 360 add me: thekranz

True.

Funny thing is that I posted the suggestion to increase the max score for TDM to 1200 (instead of 9000, which was standard) on the official forums, and guess what? It's changed to 1200 now :)

This is why I love Vietnam over most FPS'es right now. That is definitely a positive for me getting Homefront, as I can't stand bullet sponge FPS games.

Are there vehicles waiting to be grabbed up as in Battlefield? I heard you need to purchase them.

Never like going in blind on PC games as I can't sell it if I don't like it.
