Everything with the journalist and hackers is dreadful. That journalist is so 100% self-righteous and indignant, it's laughable. Just a total cartoon character. The new hacker who's like "yo girl, you totes kicked the CIA's ass, so I'll immediately hop on the official hacker ICQ to risk my continued freedom for someone I just met".

Otto looked plenty surprised about the plane exploding to me.

The preview for next week looked like they spoiled who was behind the plane explosion.
The Israelis.

This entire season is about Miranda Otto setting the world on fire because she's pissed that Carrie keeps taking all the redheaded eligible bachelors.

The Saul bedmate reveal really needed to be timed for after this episode to get any impact. Bizarre choice of timing.

I don't mind the journalist's personality much, but the hacking stuff is always dreadful. And yeah this girl is under house arrest for hacking and can't talk to journalists but is allowed computers with internet? loool

Damn good episode, really enjoying this season. Well, apart from last week's scene where they weaponised Carrie's crazy (that was some corny as hell Marvel shit - unleashing their hulk to solve a bigger crisis).

Can't wait for Saul to find out about Allison. Fucking with his job and the woman he's loved for years? She must think he's gone soft with age.

And the Israelis totally did the plane, right?

I liked the twist at the end - it was a nice way to frame the rest of the season. This show really has become 24 v2.0 and there is nothing wrong with that.

Yep, it's basically a more sophisticated 24 and I love it.

Glad to see Carrie back on her game. Help Quinn, but made sure to grab the phone so she could figure out who was behind it.

1. So, her name is Miranda Otto, but there is also an Otto Durring? What's with the writers obsession with the name Otto? lol

2. Not that it matters now I guess, but the bodyguards with General Youssef. Were they his soldiers? I thought that they were, but when Youssef wanted to have a smoke outside, he acted like he was being held captive by them by saying "Am I going to swim across the lake away from my daughter?"

3. So Saul wants to overthrow Assad in Syria with Youssef.. not that it matters now, lol. But, why? Is Assad just a poor leader and is letting the Islamic State overtake the country, but he believes that Youssef would have put up a fight against the Islamic State?

2. They're Assad's men, who's paranoid and probably rightfully so.

3. Because Youssef would be a puppet of the CIA, at least for awhile. Better the one you have some influence over than none.

Thanks!

That's the actress's name, lol. The character is called Allison Carr, according to IMDB, but I admit I had forgotten her name too.

Ha! See, just was really confusing for me. I'll try to mentally adjust my thoughts.

Oh man that ending was hilarious. The reveal of whatsherface being the one who called the hit on Carrie apparently wasn't enough so they had a plane explode.

Whats-her-face was pretty telegraphed, so I guess they did the explosion to be all "well you probably didn't see that one coming".

Bashar al-Assad is generally considered a monster by the western world, and that was true long before ISIS was even a thing. ISIS is really a total distraction on the overall question of whether the world (minus Russia, Iran, China, etc) and much of the Syrian population want him deposed.

I was surprised that Carrie had to make it so obvious to Quinn. Asking Quinn to kill Carrie is a ridiculous thought.
+ it wasn't a photo that was dropped in the box. Quinn got written as a moron for no reason.

Easy writing solution to not make Quinn look like a moron: Have Quinn argue that if Saul needed to fake Carrie's death, he'd intentionally send Quinn rather than someone else.

Oh wow, he's a real person.

Yeah, they're mixing in reality to a plot that is front and center. I don't mind it, truth is usually more interesting than fiction. I think Snowden and the conflict with Syria are the two major inspirations for this season.

CIA lady seemed unfazed when the plane blew up. Does that imply she was in on that too?

That's how I read her reaction too. But it could also because she knew the jig was up when Carrie called her.

Holy fuck was that episode grim.

So much collateral damage. It's terrible that they give us a glimpse into these people's lives (PornHub girlfriend, Syrian family) just to wipe them out in the most brutal, sudden ways

you might need to check Ukraine, more about Syria, Russia and Snowden or you might get lost in the story

I am aware of some stuff, like Snowden, and the attack on the satire newspaper in the UK -
from what I understand Homeland may include in this season's plot
?
