The Game Business: It was the biggest console launch of all time, but was Nintendo Switch 2 a success for third-parties?

Looks like SF6 sold great at launch says Capcom. pushed SF6 to over 5 million. 🤷‍♂️ I think the haters are looking for problems that are not there as always.

If you're talking about Drink, he's possibly a biggest Nintendo supporter compared to all the NDF in here.
Apparently it's going far better than during Switch 1.

Have you checked the third party launch titles for the Switch 1?

It will only get lower from third parties. They will have an harder time to sell old ports during the Switch 2 era, because they are not facing an emptly slate like during the early Switch era but are competing with all the output the Switch era had.
I never considered this. The original Switch is the Switch 2's biggest competition. As much as everyone wants to complain about the original Switch's performance, it was a great handheld with good ports. No reason to upgrade for a lot of people.

The most important thing here, is how well NEW third party games will sell on the switch 2.

If it ends up the same sales number like the old ports and remaster , then it's bad news for nintendo

"3. Mario Kart World (like with BOTW) was the game to buy for Switch 2 with an ~80% attach rate. Even with CP2077 being the best selling third party game, its attach rate and the individual attach rate of all third party games was less than 5%.In other words, Switch 2 buyers were satisfied with Mario Kart World and legacy Switch 1 titles at launch, and did not buy any of the other Switch 2 launch games in high numbers. "

If ZhugeEX is right, that means the attach rate is less than 1:1, correct?!? If so, that's fucking horrible for a launch. How the hell do you sell more consoles than games?

Edit: its a rhetorical comment I understand switch 1 games exist

"The reality is that key cards aren't a major issue in the grand scheme of things outside of enthusiast circles and having a physical version of the game (that requires you to download the game) isn't an issue for the majority of gamers. "

But how can he know that though? Gaming is an enthusiast hobby and it's naive to suggest that gamers don't pay attention or care about codes in boxes and game key cards without any data to back that up. The best data to back it up would be to have a physical release one of those gamse to actually sell well to point.

I think people are sleeping on how popular Mario Kart is as a franchise. And if you buy the bundle, that's already $500. Maybe a few would buy one other game, and that ended up being Cyberpunk because CDPR did a lot of marketing on it. The game I believe is near the top of the charts on the eShop too.

The people who didn't buy the bundle probably bought the Switch 2 because of the bad performance in a lot of games of Switch 1 and are just playing Switch 1 games.

Makes sense to me. I skipped the entire PS4 generation, so I've only used my PS5 as a PS4 Pro+. I've been happy with it that way, especially since PS4 games are heavily discounted by now.

I got the Switch 2 with Mario Kart and Cyberpunk (as a fuck you to key cards), but about 50% of my time has been spent checking out my old Switch games to see how well they run now. Hah, maybe I'll finally finish Mario Odyssey now that they upgraded it.

It's crazy that Mario Kart 8 still charted in Japan, despite World being out. If they ever do a 4k update for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, I won't be surprised to see it outsell world for at least a week or two. Who knows, that might just happen anyway. I'm loving Mario Kart World, but the amount of content that 8 Deluxe has with the booster course pass is just insane.

Nice. Yeah, "new to you" games might as well be day one. I'm playing Botw and finally figuring out why people think it is so fantastic I tried it on Switch 1 but the visuals and frame rate ruined it for me. Now....this game looks and plays fantastic and I'm really enjoying it for the first time. Odyssey, Tears of the Kingdom, etc. are all on my list now.

But Sephiran said it flopped because Switch users only buy kid games

I'm glad Keycards aren't being supported.

That's a lesson for Nintendo to learn.

Now we have to attack the shitty pseudo-journalists who will say it's because there's no interest... Which isn't true.

Third party games are not selling that well on the Switch 2............. In other news water is indeed wet. The writing was pretty much on the wall with the original Switch.

I don't think the general consumer cares about gamekey cards. Outside of enthusiast forums and the online sphere no one cares about physical vs game key. I think Daniel Ahmed said something similar.

Is this aimed at the fact they are only manufacturing 64gb cards?
Or that they are supporting this model at all?

My impression was that the game key card was what they landed on for 3rd party publishers that have titles that fall substantially under the 64gb file size.

Would you rather they just offer digital only (no code in case) and the 64gb card?

I might be missing something else with the On Cart/Game Key/Game Code thing, so that's what prompted the question.

Both things.

It's like the PS Vita and the memory format,

they should have given it 8, 16, 32 or even 64 GB cards for the games.

Or the other opt for Micro SD cards, which are already very cheap and cost 4 dollars for 128 GB.

Why no Put A Micro SD in the game... is more cheaper.

I see.

(Assumption here)

They are planning for 5+ years of hardware use so they are using the tech they can to account for software complexity growth, hence the faster SD cards.

I can understand wanting them to support smaller cards but if Nintendo is planning for larger games going forward then their decisions to support only the larger cards probably makes better business sense for them.

I disagree with the SD card format being a great cart-like format. I have had tons of issues with data loss due to hardware damage with SD cards. They are great if you are putting them in a device and leaving them. I also recognize that how I use SD cards are not a normal use case…but closer to a cart-like use case.
