Thanks for linking the other thread, there's a lot of good info in there. I still want to post impressions and loose talk in this thread since that's kind of the point of a forum, but I think a lot of my existing questions can be answered from your link.

Is this still a slick deal even with just 20% off?

Ebates will give you an additional 6% cashback but it takes awhile to get though.
http://www.ebates.com/coupons/hp-home/index.htm

Another option is if you have a Discover credit card, you can get 5% cashback.

Does this come with any additional SATA cables or just for the number of hard drives it comes with? Mine should be coming Thursday and I need to figure out if I need to get an additional cable for the SSD I ordered separately.

You will need to purchase an extra cable.

For anyone considering getting this deal and shipping into Australia - where the parts costs to build the same spec PC are very high - bear in mind I got a quote on the shipping for a cut-down version of the box that this thing comes in and it was at least $250 from USPS.

And of course you have to remove all the paperwork, label it second hand etc, lest you then get the pleasure of paying another batch of aussie GST, including on shipping price, (considering you probably already paid sales tax in US).

Also, is it really worth it to do all the shit to get rid of the HP bloatware beyond just uninstalling programs and maybe changing startup programs in msconfig? Or is that sort of an ocd thing for some of you?

It's worth it because it's less work and just makes it completely fresh. Download the tool on the USB, reboot, hit esc and boot into usb, then do something else for like 15 minutes while it installs and you're done. You do have to reformat the second drive after installing if you deleted that partition in disk management, but you can do that while you're using the computer.

In other news been playing the 2013 Tomb Raider at basically highest possible settings at 1440p/144fps&hz/g-sync. It's unbelievably smooth.

Did you reverse course and get a different monitor?

Yes lol. I settled on the Dell s2716dg, it being under $500 was enough for me to jump in. Don't really have any major complaints with it.

Did you get an IPS and then make the switch? I have this IPS and love the look of it, but am still curious about the G-Sync. Hmmm

I ordered the IPS but didn't open it and compare them, was pleased enough with the Dell screen that I figured keep the other unopened so it's easy to return. Was kinda tired of trying to decide.

If you don't like tinkering around with v-sync and frame-rate caps to try and deal with tearing and stuff then G-sync is pretty great. It's just on and everything plays smooth as butter. 144/120hz is the big deal though, it's basically like cranking the framerate up on your computer that visibly effects everything meaning browsing and normal desktop usage.

Does anyone have any ideas how to get a Steelseries Wireless H headset to output in surround sound with this pc? This doesn't have a optical audio out. I tried the turtle beach advantage ii which was usb to optical audio but it doesn't convert to DDL which is necessary for this headset to have surround sound. I assume I'll need to install a sound card either internal or external. Help! Please?!?

Maan I think even HP realized this was too good of a deal...

The 980ti is gone again (970 is the highest upgrade)
Also, now 12GB of RAM is the "included in the price" the 16GB is no longer the standard, it's now considered an upgrade :(

I am getting the feeling we will never see the 980ti again with this deal (coupon) :(

But the good news is, the coupon code is back!

Just got mine in today and have everything setup. I am setting up the custom fan settings using afterburner that were posted in the thread earlier. My question is do I need to keep this program open at all times for it to have effect? Or can I set it and then forget about it?

Open, unless there's some setting I don't know about

You can set it to launch with windows and start minimized. I use that. Works great. temps never go above 67c with the fan profile itt. Used to get to around 80-83.

I still see 16 as standard. Did you go to the customization page on the OP? I remember trying to just go to store.hp myself and could only find that 12GB 750se which I guess was just a different build than the one in the OP.

So to get a clean install of windows do you just download from the windows site and boot off of USB or what?

Make sure you go through the initial setup process on the current hard drive to register your pre-installed copy of Windows 10. After that you can wipe and install a clean copy of Windows.

Is the 600W power supply new? Don't think I saw that before.

Maan I want this but I am in Canada, does anyone know a good way for a Canadian to shop online in the US? I am less than an hour drive to the border (Buffalo) I kind of want to ship it there and go and pick it up and pay duties at the border and be done with it.

but not sure if I can trust any of these addresses/business' (online).

Ugh.

Any Canadians on GAF that have experience with this kind of shopping?

I may finally jump on this.

It's also offering a AMD Radeon R9 390X 8GB GDDR5 FH GFX now.
If you're interested in the 390X (which is performing very well currently with DX12) you should check out the link I posted earlier: https://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/Gamer_Infinity_8000. It is $242 more than the HP deal, but as a trade off you get a NZXT Source case, CPU water cooling with an Asetek 550LC, Asus Z170-PRO Gaming motherboard and 16GB of DDR4 2800MHz RAM, a 1000W 80 Plus Gold power supply, and a 240GB Intel SSD with a 2TB HDD. You also get a gaming KB&M, a headset, and a USB wireless adapter free.

I probably sound like an infomercial but my point is there are plenty of boutique builders that are on the web currently who are offering prices near what HP is offering with this deal, usually with better quality components. If anyone missed out on this deal and still wants to get into PC Gaming there are definitely ways to do so. If youre adventurous you can even hop over to the PC GAF thread and we will help you pick out components to build one yourself! http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1094682

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure you get hit with tax and shipping after that, which brings the total to somewhere around $1500, which is nowhere near the HP deal with the 980Ti? Went through the process and got hit with those fees in the end. The HP deal was after tax AND shipping, as far as I recall.

I don't want the accessories and I actually like how the HP case looks. Plus I've been built most of my PCs and dealt with all the headaches of diagnosing for faulty parts. Having it prebuilt for once would be nice.

HP has free shipping but the price is pre-tax until you checkout. The cyberpowerpc one doesn't have tax to NY but has $75 shipping at the lowest I think.

Anyone here lives in Buffalo or upstate New York?

Say 3 hours drive from Canadian border max? Serious question, I could really use your help to purchase this. help a Canadian brother/neighbor out!

How does this work? Does the 30% off and the ebates deal stack?

Yep.

Sign up for an ebates account, once you do, you should see HP as a featured store on the ebates home page, click the link then scroll down until you find the 30% off custom PCs over $1199 deal, ebates will redirect you through its referral link to HP.com

They do pay out quarterly however, so I won't be getting my check until August something, but still, worth the 60 seconds of signing up on ebates.

Tempting...

This damn thread keeps popping up and tempting me. Hopefully my Vive comes soon, so I can see how my 290x / 3570k rig holds up. I think it will be good enough for most games out now, but not sure I will be able to run Elite Dangerous.

This is actually kind of tempting... Any reason to update CPU for $100 more?
Might as well get the works. Definitely an SSD drive at least.

It's great to have an offer like this, but it wouldn't end there for me. Need a new monitor too, and with a beast like this, i'd have to get a nice G-Sync.

Totaled to about 1450 after tax and free shipping, does that sound right?

It should tell you how much you're saving with the coupon before the checkout.

You're missing a Blu Ray drive, not sure if you cared or not.

To the 6700K, I presume? I'd definitely pay the premium as the 2600K's HyperThreading capability (i.e. the four logical cores it has in addition to the four physical ones) can make a notable to significant difference in more recent releases:

Mine arrived yesterday. I ran some GPU/CPU temp and framerate tests last night. I was using the same area in Dark Souls 3 (all settings maxed @1920x1080) to check heat while I adjusted fan curve speed via MSI Afterburner. Here's what I saw:

- The default reference GTX 980ti does a pretty good job of keeping the GPU temp at 83c or lower. My max temp never went higher than 83. This default fan curve is very quiet. At 80c the fan speed was around 43%. The right side of the case felt very hot, but temp averaged around 80-83c. Rock solid 60fps except when looting some shinies which caused a brief drop.

- I set an aggressive fan curve that had the fan speed at 100% by 80c. This kept the GPU temp in the low 70's during the same bonfire to bonfire run. The fan was loud though as it moved through the curve from 60-100%.

- I set a more moderate fan curve a little higher than the default, hitting 50% fan speed by 80c. This was a better balance between temp control and fan noise. Average temp was 78c with max at 81.

- Framerate was solid 60fps for the entire time I tested with a few framerate drop anomalies while looting.

My initial impressions on the PC itself:
- The build quality is good. No issues.
- The case is small enough to fit on my desk. It's very quiet during general use.
- They configured my boot SSD perfectly. Very fast boot up.
- The data drive was setup well. No issues.
- I manually removed all of the HP software and extra apps I didn't want. Took less than 5 minutes. My personal thought is that I don't think a clean Windows install is necessary, but I get why people are doing it.
- This is a great bargain for a high end pre-built PC.

Do you mind posting a pic of your fan curve? I'm curious to try it out. The one issue I have with the PC is the jet engine GPU fan when it gets going.

Just got mine this afternoon. After a bit of a struggle I was able to install the separate SSD I bought.

I was doing a fresh install of Windows onto it and deleted, then formatted the default 2 TB drive that comes with the system. The install went fine, but now I'm not seeing the 2 TB drive in Windows. Any ideas? Disregard, I figured it out. Odd that Windows didn't automatically detect it though.
