Hyper Light Drifter |OT| We On A HyperLight Beam

Still having trouble getting the game to run.
I've got audio, but no video. The Steam overlay still works on the application.
Everything's been updated

I just fought the
Bird Boss?
up in the north area. No money right now so i played thanks to family share on Steam.

Holy. Fuck. That was incredible. The game is too good.

The 30 FPS lock does damage to the game, though. Geez. The game would be so much better with 60 FPS that i'm baffled by the decision from the devs.

Nearly finished with the game, but it seems like there is definitely quite a bit of hidden stuff to be discovered. Interested to see where the community takes it...

Patches tonight fixed everything for me. Thought the controller was borked for a second, but it was just because I didn't have it on before I booted the game.

Tons of fun, although I'm still getting a feel for it.

The charge sword move is great. Kills most enemies in one hit and covers a large area. Just dodge and punish. Also decapitates.

Shielded dodge is useful when you want to close in on enemies with ranged weapons. It does get you out of bad situations where you would take damage otherwise.

The dash stab is interesting. On weaker enemies, it seems to bounce them around, taking more than one damage. On bosses(only used it for one boss so far), when an opportunity opens, using this moves seemed to damage them while also moving your character backward(so you're out of harms way). I need to experiment with it a bit more.

Anyway, I'd go for the charge slash, because it feels good.

I went with the X + A move. If you're all of a sudden surrounded by a bunch of enemies, I can use that to dash out through them, damage them, then start picking them off.

What's also another great choice is not getting hurt while Dashing. Those are the two I'd go with.

The Charge Sword Slash has been incredibly useful in one shotting enemies and taking out chunks of HP off of bosses. It has a surprisingly quick charge time so its easy to throw out whenever an enemy finishes an attack. I'd purchase that one since I've been wiping out bosses and enemies with this charge move aside from alternating between slash, projectile, slash, projectile since slashes recharge your ammo, thus overcoming the cooldown after using your normal combo.

Thanks for your input folks! Ended up going with majority rules and grabbed the charge sword attack. I've just started the West area, and I'm finding it really useful on the
wolves and samurai guys
.

I realize that my explanation above made little sense but yeah, you guys should definitely try and get comfortable with alternating between slashes and projectiles repeatedly since using a gun cancels your sword animation. It's a faster way of dishing damage then the normal sword slash combo.

So far I'm loving the look and music but it's tough. I went north and it was hard and I can't beat the boss so I decided to go east. That north boss seems like a "get good" type one where you need to understand and know your limits. I've gotten him below 50% a couple times.

Game is hard but not unfair. Like I can struggle with an encounter and then something will click with me and I'll nail it without taking a hit while looking flashy. Biggest thing to get used to for me is the dash not being invulnerable and having a bit of a startup and the sword combo just being three hits. Maybe I should upgrade something? The first thing I bought was the grenade because I figured it'd be good for clearing groups.

Not sure where, probably through Humble page, but the devs mentioned something about wanting to release the game first.

The cosmetic changes are a little buggy but try the computer on the right above your bed.

Well I went to my humble page and nothing, so dunno.

Most of the time you do not want to do more than one or two slashes since your sword leaves you vulnerable. Do shoot-slash instead of two slashes or shoot-slash-shoot instead of three slashes.

Yeah, it specifically mentioned Intel graphics driver.

Well so far it's not running on my macbook with Intel graphics 5100. Mind you, this is running on OS X, not windows. I'm not having problems with my Nvidia GPU on the desktop, maybe the didn't test for all intel graphics? Kinda weird that it's having iGPU issues.

try setting it in Windowed Mode. Alt + Enter

Managed to fix this, leaving this here in case anyone needs it. Worked for me.

1. options.ini tweaks:
Open options.ini located in your game's install directory and change "CreateTexturesOnDemand=0" to "CreateTexturesOnDemand=1"
You can also try changing "AlternateSyncMethod=1" to "AlternateSyncMethod=0"
2. Make sure graphics drivers are up to date
3. Disable any anti-virus software you have running
4. If you are on a laptop with integrated/discrete combo make sure the discrete card is used

Now it's time to play! Stoked!

Well I um... got four triangles in the east area and stuff happened and it crashed.

Code:

It just crashes when I start it.

Intel display driver crashes on startup every time.

I posted this problem a few pages back. Finally got it to work. You have to force it to open with the Nvidia card and not the integrated graphics. Here's how:

http://gaming.stackexchange.com/que...idia-gpu-instead-of-the-integrated-intel-card

I''m getting a display driver error whenever I try to boot on my Surface Pro 3. Anyone else have this problem or know what the deal is? I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but no dice.

See the fix above.

What am I supposed to do at this part? I'm in the North section, and I have to acquire the four pieces of the 'key' to unlock the path to the boss. This is the last one I need, and i can't get past these things here. Am I missing something?
I6EILme.jpg

mmm, i'm also stuck here. based on the map "pink spots", this should be the area that i'm supposed to pass (i have 3 keys in the north), and the 4th one is marked here, but iv've spent 2 hours screwing around and cant pass this STUPID area.

WHAT do those arrow mean ?? someone said dash. i chained dash 10 times and cant pass it.. WHY>>>? SO FRUSTRATING!

the map design seems to be a disaster for getting stuck and not able to progress... too much time wasted trying to get unstuck...

other than that, great mechanics... could have been better though.

Coming around on this game a lot now that I've played some more interesting encounters. There's an early area in the north that is designed around using both your movement and combat skills at once that totally rules. Really made the whole thing click for me.

The arrows indicate(I think) that you need to defeat the main boss of the area. If you tried going South, you'll see that it is blocked by 3 rows of arrow blocks(up,left, and right), meaning that you have to beat the North, East, and West bosses.

So Just beat the North boss and you gain access to this area.

Probably the most satisfying boss battles I've played from an indie game, can't think of much else that comes close.

I love the nuances of the upgrades, like the dash stab makes it so you can bounce enemies off walls or into each other for extra damage, or it hits a boss and bounces you off so you're not too close.

Also I've mastered the football minigame...
there's no reward for it?

Fellow east-starter right here. Glad to know its doable!

I started with East as well. I thought I was supposed to since the dog runs that way!

Done for tonight after my game crashed during a cutscene. Sent in a bug report. I'll be back at it again tomorrow!

well its not like much is explained in this game even when itd probably be better if it was for some things but nah because aesthetics

Just beat the northern area boss. Took 4 tries. Such an awesome fight.
You have to be pretty deliberate in your movements and attacks in this game and the tight controls really compliment it well. Very satisfying and cohesive experience.
It's also the type of game that you learn by playing and I appreciate that.

Basically 2D Zelda type exploration with Ys-like combat.
This is my Shovel Knight of 2016. In the sense that it is a modern retro game that pulls influences from the past yet manages to have it's own identity and feel authentic. Great work.

for some reason i can't play in full screen without getting some serious lag issues every two seconds. played windowed mode for about 40 minutes and i'm enjoying it a lot. gonna try to figure out what the issue is tomorrow... really digging everything about this game so far though, glad to have backed it.

Okay so far this game is absolutely gorgeous and amazing, but holy damn the crosshair for aiming is really "laggy" in a sense. Not sure what is going on and if its by design but it feels like molasses at times when trying to aim.

its the framerate probably

That's weird, it's super responsive for me. Are you playing the Steam version with the update?

Yeah seems to be super strange but it definitely does it only so often. I'm currently at the north boss and sometimes I'll move my mouse and sprint a direction but it doesn't quite go the way I was pointing. I tested it before in an open space and sometimes it would "lag" and sometimes it wouldn't, strange but not entirely game breaking.

almost done in the east dungeon (my first), I get the
4th triangle (by accident actually because I opened a locked door I missed before)
and the game crashes when it triggers the cutscene >_>

sigh

edit: noooooooooooooooooo the game resumes AFTER, meaning I cant watch the cutscene ;_; save me youtube I guess :/

Are you talking about the railgun? That one chops up the framerate when I aim with it. Other guns seem ok though, but I don't aim too often so I'd have to double check.

Done with 3/4 areas:
Eastern boss was a pushover, but I really liked the east area as a whole. Northern boss and his area was great as well. Western boss has been my favorite so far, but I'm not a fan of the western area design. It feels a bit too big and everything kind of blends together aesthetically, making it hard to remember key places. It was annoying to check the terrain for secrets there because of all the damn trees.

Jesus christ NG+ is disgusting.

You have only two health pips. Many enemies are 1HK. Inlcuding bird boss, for example.

However, you do get a
black cape.

Same. And same feeling too.

Got the fourth
piece by the flamethrower area
and it crashed after a bit of a scene.

Mine crashed in the same spot...

welp, 3 people in the same spot means its a actual bug not just a random occurance.

anyway, finished the east zone, or lets just call it what it is, the
water temple
(lol). FNTASTIC level design throughout, I got
5 triangle thingies, not sure if there are 8 in this zone (in every zone?), I did run into a door that needed 4 (I assumed it was the boss one but no) so Im going to go there and check what it has before moving on. I got 5 total upgrade thingies (complete ones, so 20 shards in total counting the 3 from the boss) and I know of at least 2 I couldnt get without the dash upgrade (I guess).

Game is totally legit (crash bugs aside), great stuff and totally worth the $20 if the other 3 zones are as good as this one.

edit: oops nvm that
door actually needs 8 triangles
. welp, off to another zone then :)

I can not wait to play the game today and I'm super glad that the impressions in here are great. I'm so pumped.

Hopefully it reviews well, too.

got the charge sword upgrade and the multi dash upgrade before tackling the second zone... the multi dash seems to only work if you change directions so im not sure how that helps with the
fire platforms in the east zone that you needed to traverse to get a upgrade thingie
/shrug

also, there is a upgrade shard right at the start of the north area to the
right side a bit when you traverse a ledge, but I couldnt get the final jump
, any clue how to get it?

You need to time the multidash. It starts slow then gets faster until it gets to a steady rate. It does work in the same direction.

For anyone who bought the Grenade upgrade, how is it? Useful? Worth the cost? How does it work, does it draw from your ammo or something?

Decided to get in on this and play a couple of hours last night. This game is finely crafted as all hell. I got vibes of various different games while playing- Dark Souls, Ninja Gaiden, Shadow of the Colossus, Super Metroid, Mega Man Legends.
(All in a good way, of course.)

Decided to start north, got a bit done but then gave up on the room with loads of
reaverbots crush blocks
and decided to come back later with some movement upgrades. Went east after that, and had a much easier time.
That said, holy moly this game doesn't hold your hand. I love the combination of combat difficulty and generous checkpoints.

The one thing I'm having trouble with is not having a way to easily top up your health packs. I spent a good half hour trying to slog my way through two screens full of enemies at one block of health last night, which was a trying experience to say the least. Am I missing something in town, or do you have to farm for them?

Oh and screw that chain dash challenge. I got ~140 legit, and can only manage 400 using the M/KB cheese method.
