I don't understand the dislike towards the Xbox consoles

The hardware isn't necessarily the problem, it's the company behind it. MS is so shitty that they've completely destroyed whatever good will they built during the 360 gen by making some of the most insanely idiotic decisions in the history of gaming thanks to greed and laziness.

All you need to look at is the current market now. The hardware is overpriced and significantly more expensive than the competitor's hardware while providing no true benefits. GamePass on the console is also overpriced for what it is, and 80-90% of the "exclusives" on Xbox can be found on the cheaper PS5 consoles where they look and run better or have more features (eg. MS Flight Sim 2024 on PS5 getting VR support while Xbox doesn't).

If Xbox existed in a vacuum it wouldn't get as much hate but the truth of the matter is that it doesn't. It's supposed to be in direct competition PS5 and in indirect competition with the Switch 2. It's just not competitive at all compared to the other two brands, and it's mostly thanks to MS and their dumb business decisions, and lack of care for the brand.

With that said, whether one likes or dislikes the console is up to personal taste and no one should be able to tell you to like or dislike the console. What I'm posting is just a couple of the reasons why the console gets a lot of hate here and also does poorly in retail.

Negativity towards Xbox helps Sony fans cope with this being the worst console generation Playstation has ever had. MS also seems to not care about Xbox as much as they should. They seem to be more and more a third party while also acting like they care about their consoles. They make an easy punching bag since people love hating on large corporations like MS.

They have lots of interesting and weird games that most people tend to overlook or don't give a chance or they're experimental and in genres they don't play.
Barely? Besides Keeper there was Hi-Fi Rush, from the studio they literally closed (before Krafton went on to buy all the related assets).

Pentiment, South of Midnight, Avowed, Age of Empires 2, Hi Fi Rush, As Dusk Falls, Grounded and more. I like the lineup. Not listing other bigger games or multiplat stuff. Even Starfield I consider unusual and unique. Its clearly not for everybody.

I don't think AoE, As Dusk Falls or Avowed are particularly unique even in the current climate. Grounded is 50/50. Pentiment is fair, that's a good pick.

OG Xbox was amazing. I didn't care for the direction the 360 went, but you can't deny it had a gamer first mentality and solid first party titles. They cashed in all the good will around the time the original kinect came out and then nailed in the coffin with the Xbone launch. Microsoft is a worst company now than it was when it did the original Xbone connect. It brimming to the teeth with mediocrity amongst is R&D staff (low pay, still drinks woke koolaid, aggressively corporate atmosphere) and commodity mindsets amongst it's senior leadership. It's too late to save the brand since unlike how Playstation is do or die for Sony. Xbox is a side-gig for M$, by the time it gets shitty enough for them to realize it needs an intervention, it'll be so bad they'll determine it's not worth saving.

Microsoft problems they did to Xbox over time... Game pass, oh we'll give you 50 with the lowest plan, middle plan 200 games, extreme up to 500 FREE games! That's where Microsoft did wrong though. A lot of game companies are not trusting Microsoft anymore because they lose a ton of sales of there games because there games go free on Xbox game pass. Game pass is the number one problem with Xbox right now, it's costing almost all the companies out of millions of dollars. Where as you have to buy the game on PS5 and Switch 2. The 2nd big problem is releasing there exclusives to other consoles. Microsoft is not willing to accept it, but they got defeated when they announched our games are coming to other consoles now. Well Gears of War and about 4 others now on PS5 as well. So now Microsoft made getting an Xbox 2 times as dumb. Sure you get a whole bunch of games with a $30 per month game pass now, but you gotta remember, no exclusives anymore. With the thing of no exclusive games, why own an Xbox anymore? There's no reason. Plus games are getting pretty crappy these days and I sure don't buy very much of anything anymore. Xbox is dead. #1. Developers don't make good profit with game pass. #2. No more exclusives. Xbox is dead!

It's not the console, it's the shills and the company.
This. I think the Series S is the best hardware this generation and has the best UI of any console. It's Microsoft's best hardware since the OG XBOX.

XBOX itself is visionless, lacks leadership, has an abysmal PR department and yet Microsoft refuses to make the changes necessary to turn the organization around. The likely reason is that Spencer and Bond have recently realized that to untidy their jobs, they only need to post a profit for the division, not growth. Given this is a hobby product for Microsoft, that's probably just fine for the board, shareholders and the CEO.

They have been starting to show some shift to the PC though, which should be their concern with Apple slowly getting into gaming. If 5-6 years from now I can run most games on my Mac, Windows could loose market share.

Last bastion of xbox fans - posting silly threads
Who cares whether black box is good or bad by itself - it's already an obsolete piece of hardware. You might as well like windows phone or zune and ask the same question.
Xbox is a product of no use and no future, and people don't like stuff like that, even if it nicely built.

  • GAF: The shittier PS5 gets, the more they lash out at Xbox. That is actually what happens on here at least. The worst generation in the history of Playstation and it's not even close.
This generation PS5 has the most games. Even MS own games, those few that are good, are on PS now.

Allow me to point out something.

The consoles themselves have consistently been the most interesting out of the two main options. The heat dissipation design of the Series X is genius.

They perfected the controller in 2005 and everyone else has since followed suit. The 360 had a lot of issues but the performance to price at the time was actually 'the greatest deal in gaming'.

Unfortunately the issue is the company calling the shots. Since I cancelled Game Pass my Series X is just a 360 emulator.

The hardware is great. I much prefer to play on the Series X than the PS5. I sill can't figure out why Sony can't implement VRR properly. The ability to just enable 120 hrtz is awesome for games like Spyro. All the jittering gone. This is exactly why I hate Microsoft. They can't stop shooting themselves in the foot. It would be better if the hardware was crap. Then I would have no issue with cancelling Game Pass.

Well the brand as a lot of pepole already has pointed out feels tone deaf and insincere. So i can absolutely understand the scepticism and as i only game on a series X myself i do feel the same. What i can't understand is pepole defending any of these companys and the constant list's of x,y and z is not like the other.

Well, as a person that mainly plays on PlayStation I can tell you that Sony is way worse, since they actually had a bigger legacy to destroy, and destroy it they did.

There's no rational reason not to like the hardware. It's solid, whisper-quiet, powerful, a great controller and Quick Resume is really convenient, plus most games still release on it. Many people just don't like the brand because Microsoft has made, let's say, some controversial and strange decisions in recent years. There are also a lot of fanboys who just want to bash it while they still can and that won't last forever. That's probably why we've seen so many negative Xbox threads and news lately.

I have Series X and this year I have completed many games. Even yesterday I finished Arkham Knight. Why the dislike towards Xbox, I don't get it. It has access to so many games, and have the features that enhances the experience - like Quick Resume. Why it's not simply seen as a hardware where you play games?

I love my Series X. It's great hardware. But Microsoft don't care about it, so why should consumers do?

Xclusives aren't worth it, so I might as well play all those others game on a PS5. Granted some exclusives there aren't much better, but better still. Why buy an Xbox? There's really no reason to do so, especially if you also have a good PC next to your console of choice.

Don't think that's a dislike, rather it's just an unnecessary console. And if Sony ends up doing the same with PS games, I will only invest in my PC.

Once the suits saw the amount of money that could be done from games, they swooped in to replace the the passion for profit. I do generalize of course, but that's how i feel. I might be naive but i belive there is some truth in it.

I don't dislike at all Xbox
Seriously
I love Series S - This should be the "Indie only" Microsoft Console
And here's the first reason I blame Microsoft, forcing developers to make games for an inferior console was the first stupid thing
And going on... Gamepass, Cloud, Acquisitions, Studios closures, going third party, Everything is an XBox, Gamepass ridiculus price, Xbox handheld... If you put all those things in line how can't you be critic against Microsoft?

Still loving Xbox

There is
Most people don't like hardware for itself, how it is a technical marvel, hardware is just a tool. People look at whole package proposition and there is a lot of questions.
Gamepad is outdated and AA batteries in 2025? Games are meh. I don't care about gamepass. UI is trash and ads in main layout, really?.
My XSX collecting dust for like 2 years already and I see no point of it I would "like". It's just a cute but useless black box.

  • GAF: The shittier PS5 gets, the more they lash out at Xbox. That is actually what happens on here at least. The worst generation in the history of Playstation and it's not even close.
  • Market: they just aren't hitting the sales numbers. It doesn't have the big blockbuster mainstream titles that show off well at Game Awards like Sony, or the best designers in the industry like Nintendo with their stable of IP. They have lots of interesting and weird games that most people tend to overlook or don't give a chance or they're experimental and in genres they don't play.
  • Xbox Fans: Pretty much just upset about the GP price increase, and that's really it. Everything else is great. They put out an insane amount of games this year alone, GP is crushing it on lineup. 1000xRESIST just got added in 3 weeks and Powerwash Simulator. Can't even keep up.

The hardware is perfectly fine, I had a Series X, it was perfectly capable and quick-resume is fantastic.

But I just don't see the point of it if everything will be available elsewhere though, which is why I sold it. Given that they release their first party stuff elsewhere you'll only be buying into a platform with a more limited game library relative to the rest.

Hi-fi Rush was in already development when MS bought Bethesda, I give MS zero credit for it, they just blocked it from being released on Playstation at the time.

Yes. You put PS5 in Rest Mode, then come back and boot it up (takes about a second), and it resumes where you left off. I think the main difference is that the Xbox Quick Resume allows multiple things to be put on hold at once, whereas the PS5 Rest Mode only allows one thing at a time to be put on hold. Personally, I've never needed to put multiple things on hold at the same time, so the difference doesn't matter to me.
Yes, but it's really good for me personally, I like to switch between games often

The 360 is the only console I ever regreted buying. Was already back then that all exclusives came to PC or PS3 and the few remaining just happen to not interest me much.
People don't trust Microsoft.
This too. No one ever really liked Windows or Office and thus MS.

And MS is zickzacking like a madman with almost every product: GfWL, Windows Phone, Xbone always on, Zune, WinFS, Kinect, going third party.
They bet on things and when it not immediately works out they make a u-turn. As a customer this makes purchasing their platform too much like a gamble. The reason why you bought it, might just vanish.

There are a few things they did well: Xbox Live Arcade encouraged people into digital purchases.
Their online ecosystem was well thought out. Good enough to get people to pay for it.
Achievements added for some the way they play their games and tracking their heroic moments is fine too.
Their controller form factor was much better than Sony's, which led to them finally abandoning the ancient SNES based thing and also Nintendo followed this design.

I really hope they stay in the console race, but thowing all their IPs on every platform makes any future Xbox pointless, even if the next one would be proper good.

It is simple, Sony fandom is a cult anyone who opposes the great machine is an enemy.

Lol. I love the satire on this site. Sometimes you get gems like this that get lost in the void.

Anyway, I don't hate my Xbox (Series S) it's a well made console and works brilliantly. I'm just running out of reasons to keep it.

If Halo MCC goes to PS5 then the Series S is gone. As that seems unlikely, it looks like I'm holding onto the little guy for a while yet.

Also really love my series x, genuinely believe it to be the best Xbox, I can play pretty much all the games I personally want to play from prior consoles with Xbox enhancements (panzer dragoon orta is wonderful on series X)

& I can play all the newer games that personally take my fancy. (Except lumines arise, but I imagine this will come later like Tetris effect &. Humans) :)

I think negativity gets clicks and and recent higher up decisions fuels the fire (tango closure, GPU price hike, console price hike etc) what is fully understandable, but with how invested and angry people get is also surprising to me, but this applies to everything and not just Xbox.

What if the next Xbox plays PlayStation games, though? Sounds like it'll be a Win hybrid. Hell you'll probably be able to emulate the entire legacy Sony library like you can on PC.

Console war is the dumbest war.

Honestly it seems like even Microsoft dislikes Xbox lmao.

PAX Australia is on at the moment and they're straight up calling it the "Xbox Gamepass Booth" rather than the usual Xbox Booth.

Sounds like Gamepass IS xbox and anything that can have Gamepass is an xbox.

Its probably harsh to say MS "dislikes" Xbox. Its probably more accurate to say MS and the fans are not happy with what Xbox has become.
