I don't understand the dislike towards the Xbox consoles

Saving your game every chance you get in case you mess up. Some people have a problem with that for some reason.
Learn something new everyday.
You save the game before making a major decision/choice and then go back to that save if you don't like the outcome, or want to see the outcome of the different choices before deciding how you want to move forward.
Usually do that if I just want to get easy achievements on one playthrough instead of multiple.

I hate slow download speed.

Quick resume .... slow download speed ?

I was just reading on the save scum thing and it is convoluted as fuck but I think it is possible in some scenarios. I will change my criticism that it isn't straightforward or as feature rich in save scumming as the other consoles, but should be possible especially in games that may have manual save uploads. It's just not the same. MS should revamp the way online save data and local save data is managed imho and it would improve their next console.

Some valid points have been made. Not sure what Microsoft/Xbox can do on the exclusive front to compete with Sony's first party offerings or if they even need to.

As much as I love Halo, I don't play it as much as I used to either so I think some changes can be made.

Xbox consoles are barely a part of the conversation anymore so there isn't anything good or bad being said about the hardware itself. The problem with Xbox consoles is much worse than negativity. It is irrelevance. That's Microsoft's doing.
Once gamepass is available on Switch 2, I'm gone.

Did you quit because you were using GPU? Or simply left
I was using the absolute hell out of it, but the price increase is a bit too crazy.

Having to pay for a lower tier without COD just to play online was a dealbreaker of note. I have a decent enough PC, so screw paying to play stuff online.

Then I wanted to buy BF6 and realised, oh fuck, I can't buy any more games on this thing without paying rent, it's over. Going to have to sell it off or something. Maybe keep it around for when I get the urge to play something from my old library of stuff.

All over a stupid GP price increase.

I'm fortunate to have the pc, otherwise I'd be stuck to pay the multiplayer tax, but thanks to having options, I can just bounce.

I loved mine until I got into the PC space again.
In saying that, if I didn't have a PC I'd only have the Xbox and a Switch.

Xbox has the games I want, as I usually don't like walking sims.
People harp on about exclusives a lot, and Xbox was great at having them on both their platforms, PC and Xbox.

Yeah they're pushing some to Sony now, but honestly they should both do that after a period of time. At least for some games.

Enjoy your console mate and don't let people discourage you.
My sentiments exactly. I prefer Xbox and their games. I WAS an Xbox fanboy until they lost the plot towards the end of the 360 era when I saw the wheels starting to fall off.

Now I'm into PC gaming and quite content there. Sony has lost the plot for me in regards to majority of 1st party games.

I would have bought a Series X just to have the best graphics, but

- Microsoft took too long to decrease the price (instead they increased the price)

- The PS5 Pro came out and took the crown for best graphics

- There are no exclusives for the Series X

I have no problem with the actual hardware of the Series X.
I like the design way better than the Ps5 and it has some cool features like quick resume. At launch it was also cheaper than the Ps5 in my country, because Sony likes to scalp their own system in third countries for some reason
It's just that MS hasn't really been investing in the type of games I like since like the mid Xbox 360 gen. And Ps5 also had the huge advantage of being able to carry over my Ps4 games.

Then again, if we are talking about hardware I really do think the Kinect is what killed my interest in Xbox. Both by making the later half of the Xbox 360 complete crap as they chased the casual Wii Money, and then killing any interest I coul have had in the Xbox One by making it more expensive (with worse specs) so they could bundle it with Kinect.

Xbox is a fine casual machine

It misses a lot of games that are in the zeitgeist making it hard to be "the only" console for more hardcore gamers (Sony exclusives, and even other games).

So any hardcore gamer that invested only in Xbox is probably a bit annoyed

Both PS and PC/Steam are just better served when it comes to games

That is my take anyway

I was always Playstation guy and since i could not get a ps5 i just got a series x in 2022 and i had for 1 year and sold it again.

On xbox i get treated like a third rate citizen when it comes to literally everything!

You constantly miss out on third party games
countless times you get a game update WEEEKS later and you very often play the inferior version of the game despite having the more powerfull console on paper (cyberpunk 2077 runs much more fluid on ps5..like locked 60 and on xbox its constant framerops)

Xbox gets maybe 5% of demos that playstation gets..i was shocked when i saw the amount of ps5 demos.

The console itself i think is GREAT and actually silent

But the controller is DOGSHIT next to dualsense,no evolution for 3 gens! I could not believe how much of a difference it makes.even in third party games like re4 remake or fuckin Cyberpunk 2077. Not even talking about first party like ghost of yotei which makes FULL use of all its features.

Its just that i pay the same prices for the game and even console but i just get soooo much less in comparison.

On ps5 which i bought for 379€ im not missing out on anything and get treated like a king in comparison.

For me, it is not the console but the company. Microsoft always seems to being trying to drive gaming into directions I don't want. Whether it is MP first, or GP, TV TV TV, low end and high end console at launch, buying or timed exclusives (all do this now, but I didn't notice it 'til MS with the 360), Kinect and I am sure I will think of more when I hit post.

I do like their backwards compatible initiative and PC day one. But I have found myself rooting for them to fail many times.

Phil Spencer, acquisition of half the industry, Game Pass as a renting concept removing ownership, Microsoft and its infinite lies, the hardcore users negating everything and blaming Sony/Steam/Nintendo but their own company, etc...

Said this a bunch of times. Biggest fan in the world in the 360 days.

The Xbox One reveal or the Kinnect obsession wasn't even the deathknell.

What killed the brand for me was Phil throughout the mid to late 2010 constantly talking big, making promises and then never delivering. Every year was the same shit, "Oh next year with all the new releases will be the year"

What also killed it for me was the community of zealot fanboys during that time acting more like religious evangelists and excusing every fuck up and lackluster year they had.

I am still convinced if the Phil dick riders collectively called bullshit back then instead of doing that nonprofit PR work, Xbox could have turned the ship around. But they didn't and Phil and company kept on bumbling through.

This is why blind fandom sucks. We get worse shit from the companies as they know they can coast and do the bare minimum and a certain segment will eat the slop and then play defense.

Mattrick was a clown for what... 4 years max culimating with the reveal, he gets ousted. Great. Phil's been a clown for over a decade and he failed upwards.

By the time of gamepass, I just didn't fucking care at all.

The issue isn't the console, its how Microsoft has overall handled the past decade or so of its gaming business. I'll die on the hill that the Series X hardware, feature set and ecosystem (BC, quick resume, FPS boost, play anywhere) is better than Playstation(or at least I prefer it, 'better' is obviously 100% subjective). I sold my Series X last summer because I really have no confidence in where Microsoft is taking that part of their overall strategy, but I won't front like there aren't days where I miss it. Maybe I'll grab one dirt cheap down the line just for my existing library ( also doesnt hurt to have a backup 4k player for the few times a year I pop in a 4K UHD).

Hardware - Fine and red ring free even if the UI sucks compared to the early 360 days.

Physical game cases - Fuck you and fuck your lack of quality control from the factory. So many damaged games even shrinkwrapped ones. Does anyone there even check what they make? Fuck them and fuck your shitty designed cases. Bad enough you barely put them in stores anymore so I have to gamble with online orders with weak ass packaging. Please go digital only for your next system so I can be free from your Xbox One / Series X nonsense.

Doesn't have anything to do with the hardware....

The whole problem is the company that runs the business....
The op knows this. It's just another example, of their perpetual victimization complex. Microsoft's business decisions, and to a lesser extent, their paid influencers, are the reasons for the public backlash.

I think it's because it doesn't offer anything unique.

Every game on an Xbox you can play on PC and now moving towards PlayStation releases also.

You know DAMN WELL Sony would do the exact same thing.
Sony outright uses timed exclusives to keep games off of other platforms during the MOST IMPORTANT times, launch date, and doesn't even hide it.
No, troll he doesnt know that.
Just because you're upset about something doesn't mean you're an authority suddenly and it doesn't give you mind reading abilities either.
"Sony Too! Sony Too!"
Grow up.

I'm not defending either one.
But I'm defending not going to gaslight myself thinking one can do no wrong.

Xbox is good nothing wrong with it and that's where I get most of my hrs in. So is PlayStation and Nintendo they are good as well. Play where you feel comfortable

This is like asking people why they dislike Sega because they talked about the Dreamcast failing.

The real issue of Xbox isn't that people dislike it, it's that people have been indifferent to it for ages now and have largely tuned out the brand.

Series X is a fine piece of hardware. The S? Not so much.
MicroSoft are a shite company and Xbox is ran by clown shoes.

This. Truth be told I have never played a game on Xbox Series or even Xbox One. But the hardware seems perfectly fine. It's everything aside from the hardware that isn't good.

Most interesting thing about Xbox to me is the backwards compatibility.

I still love my X-box and will get the next generation as long as it doesn't cost too much and MS is still releasing games. I have bad blood with Sony and their theatrics. So, I am the opposite of the Sony fan boy team. I won't buy new Sony consoles. I will only get them towards the end of life used at a great price.

GAF simply loves their Sony.
Simple as that. Xbox fans are few and far between here - or left a long time ago.
Xbox is still my favorite console.

Im someone who currently has 14 consoles hooked up to various setups in my house.
Fuck fanboys. Im a fan of gaming - the entire history of the medium.

Xbox has the best controller on the planet. Period. If im going to play a videogame, I want the best controller.
No way im being forced to play 3rd party games on that trash bottom of the barrel dual shock/sense.
Brook converters for using Xbox controllers on my PS1/2/3 is one of the greatest inventions of mankind.

I used to be forced to buy a Playstation console solely for Metal Gear.
Those days are over - I have the entire MG series on Xbox now outside of MGS4 - which is likely coming soon anyways.

Xbox now (as in just this year) is getting pretty much all the shmups and JRPGs the other consoles have.
For example, I have the entire Toaplan and Psikyo library on Xbox. Even obscure things like Under Defeat - now on Xbox.
Final Fantasy Tactics is now on Xbox. FF1-XVI. All the Dragon Quests. I mean - I dont even need another JRPG beyond those.

Ill still take Panzer Dragoon Orta, Ninja Gaiden Black and II, Virtual On OOT, and Halo MCC over anything on Playstation.
Anything.

The next gen - all I want from Xbox is access to my existing 20+ years of my xbox library and Steam access.
If it has that - I wont need another console (outside of Nintendo) again.

The reason I dislike XBox is because MS came into the industry and repeatedly altered the business model.

We had one where the platform holder subsidised the hardware, attracted players to it with exclusives, and reaped the reward with that 30% fee for third parties. This was good for both them and consumers.

Microsoft came in and immediately charged for online. Evidently that was successful and everyone else ultimately followed suit.

But they still weren't happy, so then it's XBox at the center of the living room, delivering your entertainment. That failed.

Then they go for the netflix of gaming. Having largely run down their first party studios, they embark on a buying spree of a big chunk of the unaligned studios, reducing competition and damaging consumers. That's failed too

I had an OG Xbox and a 360, and I look back fondly on the Halo days. But the leadership went bad after Peter Moore left, it's way too insular and US centric, and it's leaving a trail of destruction in its path. I hate them for that.

I dont dislike the core hardware, I dislike the philosophy behind the gaming division ever sense they went down the path of Kinect. You can draw a super clear, crisp line to that moment/choice by MS that ended everything the Xbox division had been building up to. Everything about the 360 (other than the RROD) was going great until they made that crazy shift.

And then Xbox One happened..

And then Series S.

The game division is just a mess of bad choices and inconsistencies.

I've actually always liked the hardware itself, but Microsoft in the gaming discussion has just done so much harm to the hobby. I can never view them with a positive light because of it.

- Horse Armor originated here.
- Pay for online play
- RRoD gaslighting until they finally relented and offered repairs
- Gamepass (speeding up never owning your games and getting people to cheer about it)
- Getting rid of Blades
- Ads in the OS
- Xbone stuff, could be its own list
- Kinect
- Parity clause
- Series S foced compatibility, holding back visuals and complicating things for devs
- Probably more I'm forgetting.

Sure, both Sony and Ninty copied them on a lot of these once they saw that they could get away with it, but MS was the Pioneer of Shit™.

Cyberpunk 2077. Not even talking about first party like ghost of yotei which makes FULL use of all its features.

I never really cared about controllers or their features it always comes across as marketing BS to me. When I played CP2077 demo with my Dual Sense I liked it so damn much I immediately decided I'll be replaying this game on PS5 eventually. Just going to wait until the price drops below $30 for the base game and DLC.

I am looking to go from PC back to consoles, and looking at gg.deals, I think it's a tragedy that Xbox is on its way out. Battlefield 6 Xbox for example can be bought for the equivalent of about 60€ on "grey market" key sites here. On PS5, you'll be paying an insane 90€ on the official store and you have no alternative.

I'm actually not sure why I never hear about this difference considering how big it is. I guess some believe those are stolen keys or something? I've never seen any good evidence that anything but a tiny minority of keys come from stolen goods. Yes, it is probably the case that those keys are from cheaper regions, but when digital prices are as insane as they are, you better believe I'm taking advantage of that.
