I loved Ghost of Tsushima... why am I not excited for Ghost of Yotei??

No real improvement graphically to get people excited for a start, despite being a sequel on a new generation of hardware and having access to the PS5 Pro.

Graphics are the first thing people notice and the #1 reason we buy into the new consoles so it has to be said. I think this is a bigger deal than many want to admit but graphics do matter and this is the least improved Sony exclusive we've seen yet and there have already been a bunch of let downs in this area for Sony (Ragnarok, gt7, Spiderman 2, LoU1 Remake, and every "remaster" Sony has dropped)

Definitely agree with the Feudal Japan setting though that's not so much Sucker Punch' fault. Then there's the fact that its obvious it's going to be another safe open world with a narrow gameplay focus, ie you do lots of combat/taking over enemy camps/riding around on your horse with little variety for gameplay opportunities outside of that.

Not sure how true this is or if it's just his assumption but this would be a huge gamechanger for me who expected to get a similar Ubisoft game open world feeling as in last game.

Just turn off the markers maybe? Witcher 3 was criticized for the same reason, to the point the devs made it the default setting later on.

I learned earlier that we have to wait until cross-gen development is done for. I head PS5 will then show its secret sauce!

I think they are deliberately "hinding" the dialogues....there was one cutscene on the SOP with the father denying her the sword (without the dialog) oldest trope in the book. Its Sony california, you just know the story will have "modern" influences.
Are you saying the protagonist is gonna be a lesbian?

I wait to play it before to judge it. The prequel wouldn't be a masterpiece story wise but it's mile ahead to AC Shadows and far more interesting to complete.
Same. I think the fact that there's a focus on exploration is a really good sign.

It may not be for the same reasons as you Corgiix, but I'm also not particularly hyped.

While I do think the world looks gorgeous and some of the new mechanics seem promising, I am concerned about how they'll handle the story. GoT felt like it handled the conflicting philosophies of Jin and his uncle Shimura well. Both sides had their reasons and the story didn't downplay Shimura's, even if it leaned in favor of Jin.

The fact is that we're still coming out of an era where progressive politics will be shoehorned into anything, regardless of how relevant it is to the material. The original animated Mulan was a great example of a woman defying societal norms. Not for glory, but to save her father. She had pride, but she also was willing to acknowledge her shortcomings or limitations. I haven't really seen a story like that being written in the past decade.

Ghost of Yōtei is a story of revenge, so naturally it will differ. I want to believe that should Sucker Punch explore similar themes of breaking traditions and customs however, they'll do it with the maturity that we saw in Tsushima.

I get it to an extent. I was always gonna be day 1 for a new ghosts game and still am, but I didn't even care that a new SoP released. Ending up watching it last night and I didn't think anything looked bad at all, just it's what I expected. Would rather go in blind.

It's kinda a lose lose situation for Sony and these AAA publishers. If you have a successful new IP, people will claim for a sequel, while at the same time beg for a new IP. If you change too much of a sequel people will complain it's not "true to form". If you keep it mostly the same, people will complain it's too samey.

A little misleading since the one on the left is wearing an optional costume. Even the OG outfit looks fine. Totally different art direction and style as well - in GOY they're going for "grounded" whereas Wuchang is going for "weeb"

I don't think he is comparing between 'best outfits'. He is just showing the sexy one, with I sure Yotei will be zero.

The character looks like they are pushing 70.

Should be 40 years younger.
Pushing 70? I thought this was sarcasm at first, but I realize that you are serious. You need to get out in the real world and look around bro, as you have a twisted idealization of what an elderly woman looks like. She looks mid 30's without makeup.

It's five years after the previous game and is on new hardware, yet it looks like a pretty run-of-the-mill sequel with minimal changes. If it had come out three years after the last game and was cross-gen, maybe the reaction would be different.

Agreed.

I think a lot of us would have accepted this differently, as its like "ok, its cross gen and had a short window of development" and most of us get it, but 5 years and this is what they have? Ghost 1.2 ?

Ubisoft worked on Shadows for 5 years and have a fucking seasonal system with weather, Ai with enemies that react to light, shadow and sound (with the actual weather playing a part in what they can or can't hear depending on if its raining, snowing etc), added prone, updated the Anvil engine to have many breakable objects with sword fights.

So, I will still buy Ghost Of Yotei, but I think this fake shit of folks acting as if one company copies and paste and the other company is always doing something brand new seems to be a wild myth and exaggeration when you start to actually break down each title.

In this situation, it seems Ghost Of Yotei is the copy and paste as I barely see anything here that couldn't just be done on PS4, in a alternate universe, Ghost 1 releases in 2014 and Ghost 1.2 releases in 2019 and I'm 99% sure most would not question if this was "next gen" based on just how little has actually advanced. I don't think any of us are being picky by asking for something more advanced.

If Ubisoft, the fucking company everyone here swears is just sooooooo lazy can fucking update an engine with wild physics and a real time weather system, Ghost Of Yotei should be done more of Sucker Punch is indeed that much better. This simply doesn't look like a 5 year difference, this looks like DLC...

The people who are saying the graphical leap isn't enough are exactly the reason devs optimize games to run at 30 fps. This game runs at twice the framerate of the previous game. It's a big boost.

I played and finished GoT for the first time last year, so the DLC comparison is on point. I imagine if I was waiting 5 years in-between releases, I would have higher expectations and could empathize more with the disappointment some have. In saying that, it may not blow my socks off, but I am looking forward to playing.

the thing with ghost of yotei is that it's one of those games that appears to be very similar to a game that you've already played. so, basically, whether or not playing that game again sounds good to you determines whether or not you're looking forward to goy. whether or not you loved that game it reminds you of is irrelevant. it's all about whether or not you're in the mood to basically re-play it...

They de-aged her in the latest video by about 30 years, check it out.

In fairness GoT got a directors cut version on PS5 that offered 60fps. Not sure how much of an improvement people were expecting between PS5 game and slightly later PS5 game though.

30-40's now.
I don't know even know how to respond to such an assertion. Hopefully you're being ironic, in the off chance you aren't, I think it's to your benefit if someone told you that this is not normal. You may be suffering from some sort of age dysmorphia or prosopagnosia.

A lot of research and respect has gone into this game not like ass creed that just gets put out

You could try ask someone else, eye doctor maybe?

I'm kidding, but seriously though, you should do a comparison between the two, it's not like I'm the only one commenting on this improvement.

Edit: And this is an improvement, if you were just acting out of defence.

Well, it's a tentpole Sony AAA. After the latest God of War and Spiderman you probably know deep down what you'll get. A beautiful, bloated woke-fest. I personally have no interest in this game whatsoever.

It's the protagonist, plain and simple.

Let them have another relative failure.
Maybe they will get it next gen.

You do understand you sound exactly like a wokey complaining about "gruff white male" leads from a few years ago, right ?

Got half way through 1st one years back, just reminded me Assassins Creed and I just got burnt out with the quests. This will be the same and I've already completed Assassins Creed Shadows on Pc this year and this basically looks the same so will only buy this at a £25/30 selling point when it comes to PC.

Its got that BOTW to TOTK look but with less mechanical changes. I don't mind this a face value, it just would be better if it was on the same hardware. Its also made worse by the jump being bigger between Horizon Dawn and Forbidden West while on being released on last gen.

I did enjoy the first one but got fatigued by the end, and I was solely focused on story. These games are always twice as long as they need to be.

Guess again.

I know Jin is sexy my dude, but Jin is not the main protagonist now.

And I sure will be less skin in this 'sequel' thats for sure. Thats what that comparison is showing in case you didn't notice.

IDK if its just feeling burnt out on the setting, them not marketing the game well, having doubts it will be improved over part 1, and suffering from boredom of yet another she-quel. Sucker Punch deservers the hype and they never disappoint. Yet i feel meh about this game.. anyone else in the same boat?

What is the upside to swapping to a female lead in this case? She is not attractive. She is masculine. She will be as strong as a man. However, the story will no doubt point out how hard it is to be a woman. So in the end, the main character doesn't look better than a guy, doesn't play different than a guy, but will likely complain about how hard it is to be a woman. Sounds like a downgrade to me. They simply did it for ideological reasons. Not because it is better in any way.

Im not interested in it simply because im not interested in anything Sony has been doing lately. They have really let me down this generation. All console gaming has.

As for as people actually having an issue with a woman being in the game, probably the same folks that bitched about assassins creed shadows.

I agree. I know it's popular to hate on Ubisoft. And to be fair, they do deserve most of the shit they get. But I always found their in-house tech to be quite up there with other engines. AC Shadows can produce some really beautiful scenes. Yes, we all have laughed about AC Unity's state on release, but goddamn, it still looks not bad even after 11 years.
