Having an issue where my TV isn't detected under Nvidia Control Panel unless I reboot the computer. On my old setup with an AMD card I could just re-detect and it would pick it up.

Setup is like this from PC HDMI -> HDMI Ethernet Adapter -> CAT6 -> HDMI Ethernet Adapter -> Onkyo Receiver.

For the TV to be picked up the Receiver needs to be turned on. If I turn on the receiver after computer has loaded windows and open the Nvidia Control Panel it will not detect it and I have to restart Windows and then it works fine, as I said, with my old AMD card this wasn't a problem.

Any ideas?

edit: if I disable and enable SLI it will pick it up

I have almost the exact same setup but I'm using an HD7970. From driver to driver HDMI audio has been hit or miss on AMD as well. Right now everything seems fine with the latest driver.

However with the previous drivers, if I switched to my monitor and turned off my receiver for a while, the HDMI audio would not switch back with the HDMI video unless I disabled and reenabled the AMD HD Audio Driver in the device manager, restarted windows, or put the machine to sleep and woke it back up. At one point the memory clock speed of my card would go so low while in 2D mode, the HDMI audio signal would connect and disconnect constantly to my receiver and I had to adjust the 2D memory clock speed to prevent that from happening.

It's been my only frustration with my current card but when I look up solutions it seems like HDMI audio has been a general issue across both card makers especially in multi-display, multi-audio output situations.

I know you get what you pay for - but are there any good office chairs out there that aren't thousand dollar Herman Millers?

I found a Steelcase Leap V2 brand new on eBay for less than half price there are loads of refurbished chairs in there with warranties too.

I'm not very knowledgeable with motherboards or GPUs, so I was wondering how this set up looks. http://pcpartpicker.com/user/xemnyx/saved/1Uuu

My budget is under 800$.
Change the motherboard to the MSI G45 http://pcpartpicker.com/part/msi-motherboard-z77ag45

Power Supply to at least Antec BP550, or this XFX http://pcpartpicker.com/part/xfx-power-supply-p1550sxxb9

RAM to some low profile stuff. http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gskill-memory-f31600c9d8gab

I would also recommend a CPU heatsink so you can overclock the processor eventually. This is nice and cheap. http://pcpartpicker.com/part/cooler-master-cpu-cooler-rr212e20pkr2

I think changing some of these parts could break your budget a little, but if you can go for it.

got some parts today but no case yet because the store didn't have stock.
how does a i5 3570k, 8gb 1600mhz kingston ram, no graphics card stack up against ps3/360 graphics? what sort of gaming performance should I expect?

why... no graphics card... you where better of with 2GB RAm instead of no GPU. Don't expect much from on-board.

Gaming performance with no gpu? You need a gpu dude, even if it a $100 one. Id reccomend searching somewhere like ebay or the buy sell trade section of a major pc hardware forum. Hell if you were in the uk i'd send you my old gtx 260 that i have laying around.

Get a gpu by any means.

My six year old laptop is dying so I decided to get a new desktop, but my parents and I agreed that I shouldn't get a graphics card because I have exams later this year. I just want to use it for some gaming occasionally. I know I shouldn't expect too much from the on board one but I was wondering if it runs better than a console would. I'll be getting a graphics card later in the year after exams.

It will not run better then a console. A console will run better. Probably much better.

You would have been better off going the AMD route if this was always the plan. You should have got the AMD 6800k and paired it with an AM3+ motherboard. This would have been ok for some very light gaming at near enough console standards:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8L5nmPH7TAY
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OUL6q3SCISs

Then you could upgrade the GPU to something more beefy at the right time and you'd also have had a CPU upgrade path should you want it to 6/8 core CPU's if you need the extra performance.

EDIT: just realised that CPU would not fit on an AM3 motherboard so that cuts out your upgrade path. But it still would have been the better option for what you intended.

Alternatively if you had budgeted accordingly you could have got a cpu/motherboard/ram and still had room for a discreet graphics card if you had gone the AMD route. This would have netted you much better gaming performance overall.

Well, you could get one of the IVB CPUs that have the HD4000 GPUs {and have a good CPU when you do get a GPU)

Card is currently stress testing and is hanging at 70 c°.

Is this good ?

What is the safe limit temperature of a 660 ?

Guess that may have been the better path, but I think (hopefully) I can survive 3-4 months. They let me purchase it on the basis that I would not get a graphics card for it until after exams, so regardless of budget I wouldn't be able to get a graphics card.

Stick with the one you got. Its better to get Ivy and get a graphics card later than be stuck on that AMD.

You'd just about get by on HD 4000 if you're prepared to take a hit with either resolution or IQ.

And yes mkenyon, fps benches :p best I can find for iGPU.

ah must have missed that in my google searching. don't worry i'm used to playing sc2 on lowest @ 1280x720 :)
didn't see anything in the op, but can anyone recommend me a decent wireless network card? would a TP-Link TL-WN851N suffice?

Can I use the stock cpu fan for the i5 3570k and when I eventually want to overclock, I can just buy an aftermarket heatsink?

"Affordable" 4k PC monitors popping up. 31.5 inch monitor is a good size for 4K... Right?

http://promotions.newegg.com/asus/13-2778/index.html

How long until those babies get down to $1000?

I'd guess next year. Sony have recently slashed the prices of their 4k TV's dramatically so they are a lot more affordable now if you PC game through your TV.

Anyway, what kind of graphics cards these days are needed to drive a 4k resolution?

I hope they come out with a 27" or 30" at 4K. I have a 30" now and this size is already approaching the upper limit for me, I rather not go bigger.

I am literally about to buy this

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=8333215&CatId=7387

really need QUICK answers, is that a good card? Plan on going dual card in the future

I have a p8z77-v mobo and a 3570k cpu so far, this will be my third part. I am minutes away from this deal, quick input appreciated

760 is the best card in that price range, but that is not the best cooling solution. Get this MSI. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=8297773&CatId=7387

and if you can buy from Newegg get one of these. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125465 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121775

760 is a good card. Personally I'd get the dual fan type cooler, and if you plan on going dual card in the future I'd suggest single card over it (Buy dual cards now, or a single card) or get the 4GB model depending on what resolution you'll be pushing for $290.

My 660 would test out in 3DMark11 fine, but then would crash while playing a game. Ended up removing the OC profile. Wasn't worth the hassle.

Dual card setups are rarely worth the money anyway. It causes more headaches as it adds more points of failure. If one card dies in the setup, it doesn't work any more.

Usually the next iteration or the generation after has more power and uses a lot less electricity.

I finally want to OC my card and see what kind of a extra performance would I get. What kind of software is best, I currently have the Evga precision X installed (and what's the best testing/stressing method for that matter), which settings should I change and by how much ?

When it comes to fan noise, It doesn't bother me that much since I have the room AC always on and I game with a headset so I wouldn't hear it anyway, all I want is to keep the card cool under load so it doesn't throttle or crash so I can go pretty aggressive with the fan profile.

Finally, my card is already factory OC'ed, its the Gigabyte windforce GTX 670, so I don't know if it can go much higher.
