Just bought the system and have a couple of Qs:
I got NSMB U, Luigi U, Mario 3D World, Pikmin 3, W101. Any other Wii U games worth playing? I see Zombi U is only $22 at Amazon right now. Is that a legit, good game if you own all the other systems and have access to top-quality zombie games already?
The fact that you're saying you "have access to top-quality zombie games already" on your other systems suggests that you might not be aware what ZombiU actually is. This is not a Left 4 Dead-style shooter. This is also not a fun Dead Island-style brawler/shooter/RPG hybrid. It's also not a Resident Evil-style cinematic zombie action game. This is a hardcore survival game. You take on more than two or three zombies at a time and you're likely toast. You'll have ammo problems. You'll rarely want to use your guns anyway because the sound attracts more face-eaters. Melee combat is designed around animation-priority, like a Demon's Souls or Monster Hunter game. You make deliberate swings with your cricket bat to take out your foes. You lose your stuff when you die. You're expected to die. You will die. A lot. Getting back to where your previous character died can be tough and invites carelessness.
In short, hell yes, this game is worth buying! It deserves to be a million seller hit even. You just need to know WHAT you're getting into and not just think this is a random fun zombie shooter.
I now own a WiiU. Since it seems like this is now a general wiiu thread, I have some questions about multiplatform games that I'd appreciate some input on:
- Is the wiiu version of MH3 U fine?
-Do any FPS exist that offer pointer controls?
-Are any of the following 3rd party games disastrous? I'll probably buy as many of them as I can within the constraints of what I can find on sale. Stop me if there's a stinker.
Need for speed
Both arkhams
both assassin's creeds
Deus Ex
Tekken
Injustice
Epic mickey 2
ninja gaiden 3
Splinter Cell Blacklist
I'll buy the obvious exclusives like w101 pikmin and zombiu for sure.
Wii U version of MH3U is the best version you could be playing. That one's pretty obvious.
CoD is the only FPS on Wii U aside from that James Bond game from last year which was pretty shitty. ZombiU's multiplayer mode does support Wiimote aiming, though.
From your list:
Stay the hell away from Epic Mickey 2. The Wii U version is atrocious in regards to performance and lackluster use of Wii U features. If you want to play the game, go for the Wii version. Yes, I'm serious.
Splinter Cell Blacklist: lacks
offline co-op. Has full 720p, great Wii U feature integration and only stutters a bit during cutscenes. A case can be made that it's the best console version depending on your priorities.
Injustice: I haven't played that. But it seems a fine game. It lacks private online matches (can't directly invite friends) though. Otherwise it's on par feature wise.
Tekken: Also haven't played it but people use that as a great example of a good Wii U port with exclusive modes, content and features not found in other versions.
Deus Ex: Best version you could be playing is on Wii U.
AC III: I'm playing through it right now. It runs fine, HUD-free screen is a wonderful thing when you still have the info you need on the touch screen.
AC IV: Won't get DLC support so know that. Runs okay, looks great. Going by reports of other users here.
Need for Speed Most Wanted U: Best (console) version you could be playing is on Wii U. Uses PC textures, runs fine, has super smart gameplay tweaks compared to other versions, Co-Driver mode is a cool local multiplayer thing in a game series that hasn't had a "real" local mp mode since forever. Comes with the first DLC pack on the disc but has no support for later DLCs released.
Batman Arkham City: Awesome GamePad integration, occasional framerate stuttering, some new texture work, all DLCs included. If you don't mind a few framedrops here and there, great version to get!
Batman Arkham Origins: Similar situation as with City though they weirdly scaled back the GamePad features in this one. Lacks multiplayer (which I haven't seen anyone praise ever so I guess not so bad?). Occasional framedrops though the Wii U version is reportedly the least buggy out of all of them (incl. PC). Unless Digital Foundry is your god, you're absolutely fine with this version.
Ninja Gaiden 3 Razor's Edge: no clue
