Just bought a Wii U. Surprisingly, there were no shortages.

Gotta throw my hat in for Lego City. I am almost 30, but I absolutely loved that game. First game I've 100% in quite a while, and the 57 hours spent playing it was well worth the price of admission.

Edit: I haven't been on this thread since it was first created, but reading so many positive impressions swells my heart and gives me hope in this cold, dark ,negative world. Thank you, Gaf! Time to spread this warmth to others!

I know this is kind of off topic, but I'm not sure where else to post it.

Was talking to some new friends in my collegr dorm about next gen, how I had a Wii U, and joked how it wasn't 'next gen,' because that's just the joke.

They hit me up with the, "Isn't that just an extra controller for the Wii?" I went crazy. I thought that was just another joke or was only prevalent in older age groups, but no, people my age had no idea about it either.

It was the first time I really experienced that, and I couldn't believe it.

Edit: Guess I'll post something on topic;

Awesome, glad you are having a lot of fun!

Is there something I am missing about it? I cannot stand it. Are the missions fun?

Just want to recommend Deus Ex Human Revolution Directors Cut if anyone hasn't played it. Bought it last night and it's fantastic, I'm attempting a non-lethal play through my first run.

Another recommendation for Deux Ex here. Pretty good gamepad implementation.

I would go with the Mario bundle personally, but if we're talking value, the WW bundle might ultimately be the better choice, seeing as how it's the limited edition game pad should increase in value over time.

It's interesting seeing so many gafers buying U's right now, just as the PS4 and X1 are releasing.

Just ordered mine.

Got the WWHD bundle (as much as it pains me to admit it, I really don't like the NSMB games), and I'm getting Nintendo Land and SM3DW as well.

What should be next after that; TW101, or Pikmin 3?

w101 is in my system now, but i'll probably wind up playing 3d world first. i dunno. i still have ratchet & clank: into the nexus and metal gear rising too. oh, and ass flag.

further on the wii u backlog is zombi u and then a bunch of wii games (the last story, lost in shadow, pandora's tower, and sakura wars). no purchases in january so i can finally get to this stuff.

even if the thing gets discontinued in 2015, i've gotten a lot of enjoyment out of it. at least the writing is on the wall this time. i really didn't consider the possibility of sega dropping out completely back in 2001, so that came as a shock.

speaking of sega, so far the only odd duck has been sonic lost world. a lot of it is pretty half-baked, but there are some good ideas and a few good levels that build off those ideas. overall i'd say it's 'average', but unlike a lot of 'average' games that just do things very simply and are kinda boring, this game has huge swings between its highs and lows. nsmbu, nslu, pikmin 3, tww hd, and rayman legends have all ranged from good to fantastic. i'm hoping w101 lives up to its family name and faces full life consequences.

Despite similar art directions and reused music, NSMB games are quite a diverse group. NSMBWii and NSMBU/NSLU are by far the best 2D Marios Nintendo has made.

For all the people comparing bundles, a lot of people forget that the Zelda WW bundle also comes with a digital copy of Hyrule Historia. The book sells for around $20.

Flipping the pages and zooming in is very easy on the gamepad. And the book is neat for sure. It basically goes fully in depth on the entire Zelda timeline and explains everything storywise about every game. It'll make you want to replay some Zeldas for sure. Beware of spoilers if you haven't beaten some of them.

2013 has 3D World left to go. 2014 will see DK, Kart 8, Smash, X, Bayo 2, plus whatever has been left unannounced. Even if sales don't take off, Wii U owners won't have a lot to complain about.

Once Smash and Kart comes out, I'll pick up a Wii U. I never even had Wii so I have those titles as well!

I'm sure 2014 will be a great year for Nintendo.

You will have an insane gaming year 2014.

W101, pikmin3 will not become rare. W101 will

At least it will still be available unlike games like Metroid Prime Trilogy and Xenoblade. If you overcome certain barriers (mental and otherwise) you can still get your hands on the game digitally. I kind of like having this option with games that are in danger to disappear.

Mine will be delivered on Monday. But you know, I went to go take advantage of the Target B2G1, and their online store was completely out of W101. Yikes, I hope I can get a copy of that game.

Edit: So is Pikmin 3. Dang, a ton of people must have had the same idea I did.

Come to my arms, brothers! You would not believe the number of times we have this exchange:

"Why can't I get across that gap?"
"You're not using the run button so you don't jump as far"
"I DON'T WANT TO USE THE RUN BUTTON"

When she does use it, it results in a hold-right-on-the-D-pad death grip that inevitably sends her bombing down the nearest hole.

My wife demands that I carry her through all the levels once she found out I could pick up luigi.

When we beat the game she congratulated herself on beating a mario game :|

Just suggested that to the missus - she was outraged and insisted she'd beat the game herself or die trying.

I'm very proud, but starting to consider surreptitiously sellotaping the run button down.

I'm thissssssssssss close to pulling the trigger on Pikmin 3 ...

trying to wait for black friday ... but it's tough ...

I bought smt and fire emblem 3ds a couple weeks before the console because of the promotion. The buy 2 get 1 sales have me wondering if Iwanna repeat that here....

I bought a Wii U last week too! I'm loving every minute of it so far.

My thoughts:
- The gamepad is way underrated - It works so well. I love playing Wind Waker in bed.
- Miiverse is much cooler than I expected. I can't wait for it to launch on 3DS.
- eShop is much better than Nintendo's previous attempts. I logged on and saw them spotlighting new games and even having excellent sales (Toki Tori for $1.99!).

Once the Wii U picks up steam (like the 3DS did after it's slow start), I expect it to be a great console.

I do plan on buying either an Xbox or Playstation, but at this moment I can't justify choosing between them. It's just way too early. In a year or so, I'll have a much better idea of what I want and there will be better deals and games to choose from.

Beat it yesterday. Non-lethal, hardest difficulty. I think I clocked in at around 60 hours. Highly recommended.

Real talk: the U version of Deus Ex HR Director's Cut is neck and neck with The Last of Us for my GOTY. It's sooo fucking good on the gamepad.

i wanna know something about lego city

i hate lego games because you fight fight, die.... and keep going from the same point you were. I feel terrible about the lack of challenge, because you just keep mashing buttons to win. Its only a matter of time.

Does lego city works the same way?

Awesome thread. It's great seeing more people discovering the awesomeness of the WiiU.

OP, have you downloaded Earthbound yet?

I will say again: wonderful 101 and pikmin 3 are MUSTS.

wii u version of ac4 is sublime, performs great, and the gamepad map is fantastic.

On the eshop, Toki Tori 2 is an absolute must buy and one of the finest games on the system, bar none.

I love my WiiU but I think Im going to get a ONE as well, just for dat next gen MS stuff.

Im attracted to the one over ps4 bc it seems like it will actually do a lot more than my old consoles, where the ps4 just seems more powerful, if i wanted power i can build a better pc.

i also never had a kinect and with it sounding much improved and much more integrated it has my curiousity
