Just bought a Wii U. Surprisingly, there were no shortages.

This is a really enjoyable thread to read. So many people enjoying the hell out of fun games.

Picked up Deus Ex yesterday and am loving it. I owned it on PS3, but never could get into it beyond second mission/area. On Wii u I am not getting frustrated and am so impressed at how well the game pad is utilized to make for a better gameplay experience. Glad I skipped it and ended up clicking with it on Wii u version.

Also, Gamepad off-tv play is really cool and something I use a lot more lately. For Zelda WW HD using the gyro with headphones makes it feel so immersive in first person camera.

No. Tests have shown that the Gamepad image has a faster response time than a TV.

Any lag is imperceptible.

Yep, in fact, since I have a big, cheap LG, the Gamepad's sound is so in advance against my TV that it creates an echo, so I always turn the Gamepad's volume off.

This too.

I've been meaning to get DE on the Wii u

A Wii U Basic Bundle is 229aud at Target Australia at the moment and was wondering if I should get it. (Includes Nintendo Land, Just Dance 3 and a Wii Remote Plus)

Is the Basic model fine as long as I find a HDD to plug into it?
And are there any notable apps on it to mess around with outside of games?

I just want SM3DW at this point and probably X, Bayonetta 2, SMT x FE and Zelda Wii U down the line.

Wii U is looking pretty damn good compared to PS4 and xbox one right now.

Lots of great games and software out plus much more on the horizon.

I'll be buying ps4 or xbox one down the road.. Maybe both.

But My wii U is a blast! Mario, Mario kart and Smash Bro's +++ only going to make it even better.

The performance of both is comparable to or better than the other versions. Plus TTT2 has a bunch of exclusive costumes and modes.

I can't really speak much about the communities though.

TTT2 is an amazing port with bunch of exclusive features.

Injustice is...Injustice, it's just a port. Being able to play on the Gamepad is pretty much the only exclusive feature you'll get with this one. (Correct me if I'm wrong though.)

Both ports are solid performance-wise if that's what you want to know.

Thanks for the replies, looks like I'll be picking up TT2, wont be playing it much until after W101 and 3d world. Finish my backlog only to start another..

Yes, as long as you have a good HDD then the basic is fine.
As far as Apps, the Google Street View app is awesome. You can travel the world easily with the gamepad and see everything.

Wii Party U is surprisingly good even on single player. If you're looking for some casual fun for parties similar to Nintendoland, consider that one. Also, free Wiimote.

I'm LTTP, but consider Nano Assault Neo and Trine 2 from the eShop. Toki Tori 2 is also very good, but it's my least favorite of the three. Trine 2 is by far the best iteration of the game I played, simply because the touch screen controls make the wizard character so much more useful than he is with dual analogs.

I saw someone buy a WiiU for his kid at target today. Everyone involved seemed so clueless. I wound up stepping in when he said he wanted another controller and grabbed some third party $17 POS. he wound up getting a Mario Wiimote instead, I had to explain how it was different from the controller in the system.

Sad. We should have a Wii U GAF police doing rounds in retail, lol.

Holy crap is that a great deal!!

AU$229 !? EDIT: wait you mean $299 right? (Still a great price)

And yes just plug in a USB thumbdrive (whether 16GB, 32 or 64 depending on how much you like the ease of downloading games). So that's another expense but get one when you feel you need/can afford it. And if you don't have any other Wii Remote Pluses, is definitely recommend getting the Wii Party U pack with the remote. It's like $80 or something.

i really need to start buying more games for my Wii U. i still dont have TWWHD or Pikmin 3. ill most likely get all of these around christmas time along with SM3DW

Did i do well?

Got the same exact games at Target today with the B2G1 deal. Got to wait until Monday for my Wii U to arrive though. Can't wait.

Looking at target.com.au Basic is AU$299 and comes with no games...

If Bayonetta is your kind of game you can't not get Wonderful 101.

Wait, not every game can be played on the gamepad?? I was hoping to get it for that portability factor.
Right, not all games. But most games. The gamepad isn't exactly portable, though. It might work a short distance into the next room, but not farther than that.

Glad you mention headphones. My new favourite thing to do is using headphones while playing on the TV.

This is huge. To do this on my 360 I had to get a digital to analog converter to my amp (70s Sansui) to a headphone outlet. The headphone out on the Gamepad is a godsend.

Soooo I just bought a new 32 gig Wii U from ebay for $125.

I suspect a scam, because of the price and the fact that the seller is a completely virgin account, but I payed using paypal and the item is listed as insured by paypal.

So.... If it is a scam, what could the angle be? And even if it is and I never get the item, (which I suspect) couldn't I be refunded by PayPal pretty easily?

Here's the link. 4 more for the brave! lol

For new owners, Nintendoland is really really good. I neglected it until a week ago, and now I'm pretty hooked on a bunch of single player games, including:

links battle quest: you play as the archer, and there is a lot of skill involved because you can't dodge, so you need to know when to shoot and when to charge your shot so that you can stop moving and pick guys off. Gets hectic.

Metroid blast: you play as the ship. Controls take some getting used to, but once you get it, it's really enjoyable. Skill involves pinpoint shooting, know when to use missiles, strafing etc.

Pikmin: easiest single player to get into IMO, real fun and frantic, with a lot of bite sized stages. The critters look amazing, bosses get more challenging later on.

DK crash course: balls hard,I can't make it out of the first course, but super addictive.

The challenge is excellent, ramps up very nicely and gets super hardcore in latter stages. All can be played completely off screen on the gamepad. If you can snag it for cheap, it's highly recommended!

Really tempting but i'm not brave enough.

And they're listed "brand new" smells funny.

Evertime 'm buying a game, I want someone around me to screw up with the WiiU. I REALLY would love to go ballistic

The best part is, once they realize you know more about it than them, you can bullshit the rest and make good PR for the WiiU

I'm finally getting my brand new Wii U next week(NSMB bundle), I already ordered W101. (I also want 3D World and Pikmin 3 but damn I'm out of cash)

I really can't wait! What else is a must? I'm going to get a 20 buck card for Nano Assault Neo/Earthbound too.

Nintendo Land if you've got people to play with.

Other than that nothing else is really a must have.

Monster Hunter 3 is the only other major game I can think of. Might want to take a looks at Zombie U, Sonic and Lego City Undercover as well. Nintendo Land can be a lot of fun with others, too.

I'll be quite honest. After buying a Wii U in like August I've barely used it. I've been mostly playing Mobile games, and I'm not sure why I go through phases like that.

Recently I've gotten back into using my 3ds XL thanks to Fire Emblem and I've been picking up a bunch of stuff for the XL and I've loaded my Wii U account with credit anticipating 12am on the 22nd. Not only Mario, but I'll likely get LBTW sometime this holiday. This looks like a hell of a Nintendo season.

It feels good to be back into it. Not only do I have LBTW and SM3dW to look forward to, but Deus Ex, WWHD, and a huge catalog of other neat looking titles as well. Lately I've caught myself daydreaming of what Zelda Wii U might be like.
Slay me for a heretic, but I'm glad to read that they've been influenced by Skyrim (I didn't just imagine that, right?).

Anywho, it feels like the Wii U software catalog is really coming into it's own finally. True, with the likely event of the sales of AC4 and CoD:G not being great I wouldn't hold out much hope for continued Activision support it seems like Nintendo has built enough Steam so as to compensate with First-party stuff for the most part.

If anyone does local multi, I highly recommend Wii Party U. It's very, very fun. Heaps of mini games and lots of modes. It strips away a lot of the filler they'd added into the Mario Party games, and the ratio of good to bad mini games is high.

And it's basically free witha Wii Remote Plus so why not?

Injustice runs better than it does on the PS3. I noticed that the cutscenes don't lag, especially the ones where you smash people between stage transitions. Smooth as butter. I was pleasantly surprised.

Only downside is that there's no season pass for the DLC and they didn't bother including Martian Manhunter. :(

I already have 100 hours on the 3DS version... I could get it on the Wii U to mess around with other players, but there's no way I want to pay full price when I already got the 3ds version.

Thanks for the recommendations.

Surely you could find it on the cheap. Something like 20$.

Got mine 2 months after launch for 29,99$.

Saw Need for Speed U for cheap on Amazon.

Then I found out it doesn't have local multiplayer.

Still might buy it...but I'm really annoyed about that.
