Just bought a Wii U. Surprisingly, there were no shortages.

I have had my wii u about two weeks and picked up rayman yesterday. Played some two player last night with a friend. She sucked terribly at clearing the path for me on the touch screen but she was all giggles and having a blast! Its a really fun two player experience.

on a separate note, i am having zero luck getting the pionter on my wii remote to work. i have to basically point it away from the tv and havent been able to get in the wii menu. how the heck do i calibrate this thing?????

so anyone has anecdotal evidence from retailers?

is the system still dead retailwise or is there a sign of life?
It's been selling better in our store than ever, but to be honest, it's still not much. People are still confused and just don't seem to understand the system. Still, people are seeing the games that are coming out and they seem more and more interested in getting one.

good to hear that its getting better. bummer that its still not much. i agree that there needs to be games games games. i have been regretting the purchase until pikmin 3 came out (despite Monster hunter being awesome) and now i really think its a worthy purchase.

Hey, i have a question:

I'm moving into an apartment and am going to buy a second Wii U. (The one I've been using will stay at my parent's house for my other siblings to use)

The Wii U I use now has my Nintendo Network ID on it though.

Can I transfer that to the new Wii U? Is there even any need to if I don't have any money in the wallet? What's tied to the NNID ultimately?

Nintendo needs to ride this holiday out and maintain viability with retailers and customers- I do think that a price drop to $250 plus Mario Kart, Smash, and maybe Zelda would at least get the numbers somewhere respectable.

Any games you bought on the eShop are tied to the NNID, along with any eShop money.

The NNID can't be moved between consoles unless you have a broken console and send it into Nintendo and they replace your console. They do transfer the NNID and games in that case, I don't know if even Nintendo can transfer save games between two Wii Us.

Also, there is no way to move your save games to a different Wii U (save games for any wii titles can be moved with a SD card, as long as they aren't online games).

See http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/sy...up-settings-gi-data-system-transfer-wiiu-wiiu

they have good content and they should promote it.

pricedrop by next year of course should be done

Try calling Nintendo and explain the situation like you just did. They're pretty helpful. I've read of cases where they allowed people to login with an existing NNID in a new console.

You might need to have both Wii Us with you for them to be able to help you but it's worth the try.

If you don't care about the actual ID, save files and have no funds then I guess it's easier for you to just create a new one.

Thanks. Yeah, Nintendo really is strange. I knew that about the save games (pretty unacceptable) and I figured the eshop games were tied to it. I've pretty much finished all the games I was playing on it, so my saves and bought games are ready to be abandoned. Haha. Ay-yi-yi.

Oh, that's interesting. Good to know. Though I just might abandon it. Less trouble, really.

They have a bunch of Mario 3D World commercials, 3 new bundles, and they even have Gamestop employees wearing cat ears. I'm satisfied.

I bought a Wii U yesterday too. I had $300 in Target gift cards as an anniversary gift from my wife, so we bought the Mario and Luigi bundle. I went in expecting the get the Wind Waker bundle, but decided I'd rather get games I've never played before.

I didn't realize there was a buy 2 get 1 sale going on though. I might have to head back there and pick up a few games if it's still going on. Cheifly Zelda, Wonderful 101 and Wii Play U for the extra Wiimote. I recently gave my Wii and 360 to my wife's family in the Philippines. We shipped them this week actually. I don't play games too much anymore, so I don't plan on buying a ton of games. this time. I had over 50 Wii games though. Gave almost all of them away.

Anyway, I'm enjoying NSMBU so far. It's easy, as expected, but fun.

well if you still have wii games those work fine on wiiu. also you can play them "off tv (still have to use wiimote though)" if your tv is occupied.

i think wiiu is perfect for gamers that dont have much time as off tv really lets you use the gamepad at times you would usually not be able to play console games (for example short bursts before sleep.)

My nephew was offered a Wii U on release. After a huge drought of games, he has LEGO City, NSMB U, NintendoLand, Rayman Legends and Pikmin 3.

Even I want a Wii U now. Mario Land 3D and Sonic World look awesome. I also want Wonderful 101.
Nintendo consoles, forever the great companion

Luckily, the system shows some life (regarding the interest in it) in the last few days.

Google Trends analysis:

Last peak was due to E3, but this time around there isn't such an event, that's why I believe more people search for it to buy one.

Logically, we enter holiday period and it should get increased sales.

Let's hope it can achieve decent sales at least, PS4 numbers are going to destroy it though lol.

Why not just put the new Wii U at your parent's house and take the existing one with all of your NNID info and content with you to your new place?

Even after the PS4 launch(which i enjoyed), I am back at in The Wonderful 101, and am considering showing up to gamestop's midnight launch of The Xbone to buy 3D world and A link between worlds lol.

Can you adjust the button layout with the purchased game? My friend has the demo and I played a bit of it and the button layout was all kinds of awkward and unintuitive. I couldn't find a way to change it in the demo but, like I said, I just played it briefly.

I just checked, and I don't see any options for adjusting buttons. Sorry.

Haha, yeah I did exactly that last night and played it in bed. That and the ability to use it as a TV remote are what I really like about it so far. I was playing on the gamepad a bit ago in the kitchen too waiting for breakfast to finish cooking. I really like it in that respect.
Is there like a way to save state your game though? I had to turn Mario off before I got to a save point so I'll have to replay the levels I just beat. Do you just pause it and let it fall asleep or something?

You can quick save in Mario, from the menu. You can also switch the gamepad display off and wake it again when you're ready to carry on, though depending on your settings the Wii U itself will shut off eventually.

Man, it sucks that the screen protector I ordered on ebay still hasn't arrive. Don't want to open my system without it. I got Mario and 101 ready ...

Haha, the perfect troll. Love it :D

Can't wait for those 2 games! UK though, so a week longer wait for Mario. But Zelda: LBW will tide me over perfectly. Plus my mate just gave me Wind Waker as an early bday present, so I am super spoiled with quality gaming for the next few weeks!

there is a quick save option for new super mario bros U if that is what you are talking about.

be sure to check out the internet browser too. its really great for watching youtube on tv while browsing neogaf.

are the steffi graf/andre agassi commercials shown in US?

at the moment i would be perfectly satisfied if it just had a respectable second holiday season and not a complete disaster

its so funny because while nintendo deserves a lot of shit the games still are good.

Man this thread is getting me so excited about buying the Wii U. I've decided to go ahead with Target for the $25 gift card, and 5% off using the red card there. I'll then use the gift card towards SM3DW and also get WWHD.

Quick question. Can the Wii U use the same sensor bar as the Wii? I'd still like to keep my Wii connected so I can play GC games once in a while, and I don't really want two sensor bars taking up space.

I own one of these. All the sensor bar is, is some IR lights for the remotes to target. The only reason it need to be plugged in is for power.

So you can get a wireless one like this or you could just leave whichever system your current bar is plugged into on. As long as the bar has power the Wii remotes will work for anything you are playing whether that be Wii, Wii U or Dolphin.

Interestingly, to compare, it has been about even...just a little behind...Playstation 4 until the past week or so. However, Xbox One was miles ahead of both.

It's pretty amazing that Zelda, Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101 and Super Mario World will all be out in the first year of Wii U's existence, It's a an equal line-up - if not better - to Wii's Holy Trinity in my opinion (Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3 and Smash Bros) and the games have come out in a shorter space of time. Such a shame the majority of the world remain ignorant to Wii U's delights. Being a Nintendo fan these last few months has been heavenly.

That's weird. Is there a lot of sunlight shining directly on the sensor bar or the remote? Or maybe some highly reflective surface in the way?

Too much so. I have so much to play it's unbelievable. Even more when you count non-Nintendo published games on Nintendo hardware. This week I have Assassin's Creed 4 and Zelda, next week I have Mario and I'm still playing through Lego Marvel among others...plus Pokémon still, obviously.

Nintendo botched it heavily by releasing those ga,es much too late. If they had those games out by march the situation would have been much better.

Right now I am saving to purchase a Wii U for myself, before I jump to a PS4 or One. I have been ready to grab one for about six months now since the library became deep enough for me to have plenty to play to make my purchase worth while. I can't wait to experience all this wonderful Nintendo content, I really can't! My buddy bought a used 8bg unit a while back and we played around with it and he told me to go ahead and borrow it, but I just couldn't do it, I wanted to have my own system. I think since I haven't played Wind Waker at all, I will opt for that bundle. Other greats I am looking forward to playing are Pikmin 3 (played the GameCube versions when they launched) and of course anything Mario bros related. I'd like to try W101, ZombiU, as well as some multiplatform games just to do my own comparisons, and for that I think Deus Ex is going to fit the bill. I think I will be buying sometime around Black Friday, but I am not sure if I will just wait until the Christmas holiday so my wife can buy the thing for me which would make her shopping easy. I love reading these new adopter threads, really cool vibes.

Didn't Smash Bros. come out in March 2008?

I do think the Wii had a better line-up during the first year. Nintendo's gamble for not going HD did wonders for their first year line-up. They had Twilight Princess, Galaxy and Prime 3. Excite Truck, Warioware Smooth Moves, Super Paper Mario, Mario Party 8, Mario Strikers Charged, Battalion Wars II, Link's Crossbow Training and Mario & Sonic at the Olympics all came out in 2007. North America even got Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn during that year. And oh, Brain Academy Wii.

Compare that to Lego City Undercover, Game & Wario, New! Super Luigi U, Pikmin 3, The Wonderful 101, Wind Waker HD, Wii Party U, Super Mario 3D World and Mario & Sonic at the Winter Olympics 2014.

On a brighter note; 2014 will be a better second year for Wii U than Wii had.

Unless 2014 marks the beginning of the end and ushers in of Nintendo bowing out of the console race yada yada, sent to die and lol Nintendo doin' nothing son.

Gamestop is sold out of the Mario and Luigi bundle again.

uuuugh damn you nintendo you got me just ordered a zelda bundle wiiu, monster hunter 3 ultimate and wonderful 101 and preordered super mario 3d world

This is really only true for the slowest of the slow TVs though, most still will have a response time faster than the Gamepad.

I don't think that's true.
Do you have a source showing "most" tv response times so we can compare that to the Gamepad response time?

Anyways..
I went to ebay to check out that deal on the last page, and, man, there are lots of Wii U consoles up with No Gamepad.
