Just bought a Wii U. Surprisingly, there were no shortages.

So awesome to see everyone joining the club. Wind Waker HD and Super Mario 3D World have dominated my time lately and I've really enjoyed them. I still need to get W101 one of these days.

I really hope the Wii U's past problems (sales wise) don't mean that on Black Friday lots of retailers are sold out from having small inventories. I would love to see the Wii U do well this holiday season.

Try Zombi U. It is a really great survival horror game.....seriously I recommend it. Play it like you are afraid of what is coming around the corner and not like COD. It does a great job of building tension throughout the game.

does anyone have info on this?

Dang it, I really want a good deal on a Wii-U Mario/Luigi bundle. I kind of want to wait until Monday to see what the Ebay bundle will be before making any purchases. Anyone know what time the Ebay deals start? Hope it won't be refurbished. I want new if possible. xD

Finally finished AC3 (turns out i just needed to step through the gate and watch some cutscenes, lol, hadn't played it for over half a year), as well as Batman AC. Just in time because i got Windwaker yesterday and NSMBU last week. And i have a bunch of games i still entend to get (Deus Ex, Wonderful 101, AC4 is also looking good, and I'll also be getting a bunch of launch games that are now cheap, such as Tekken i think).

PS: does anybody know if the feature to see who replied to a post of yours is still here (on neogaf)? Last year this was introduced on the website, but since the rehaul, i haven't been able to find that anymore (unless i've been looking in the wrong place all the time). I'm not talking about in a thread page where it still lights up, but in your user settings, where you could see a list of people responding to your posts.

I'm glad to see that things are still quite positive in here. The Mario 3D sales thread bounces back and forth between frustrating and depressing.
Sometimes people tend to take it all too seriously. Gaming is about having fun and having a good time, and I'm certain most Wii U owners are happy with their purchase.

I am going to brave the crowds Thanksgiving morning and try to get a Zelda bundle. I think the library has enough games that I want to play now and I am going to need one to play X anyway.

Are there any must have accessories? I saw some people mentioning screen protectors in another thread.

Just bought the windwaker bundle along with a copy of monster hunter! Quite enjoying the system so far. In 16 hours of ownership -- this morning I was playing windwaker and I couldn't lock onto targets. Turns out the z trigger crapped out.

Best buy still has about 5 windwaker bundles left so while it's annoying It's not too bad.

Thinking about picking up wonderful 101 and Super Mario 3d world when I exchange the system.

Bought Art Academy: Sketch Pad today.

Also downloaded and tried Panorama View, which is so amazing. It's a non-game but it was magical using it for the first time, especially the rickshaw and double decker bus ride, oh man!

Not sure where to post this so I thought I'd ask this here.

Do you need a gamepad to operate the Wii U or to play certain games? I keep seeing the console selling for ~100$ on ebay without a gamepad and wondering if it's possible to use with say just a classic/pro controller or wii mote.

Whoa. That is super shitty. Sorry to hear. Go replace it asap before they are gone.
Pick up a pro controller in the meantime. It is incredibly worth it and you can continue playing most games incase they tell you to just sed the controller to Nintendo or something.

Since I have a Wii U specific question and no idea where to post it, I'll just ask here:

I'm pretty much eShop exclusive and bought almost 50 games on the console over the past year. As a result, over 2/3 of the menu space is covered with icons already. So far, I still only have six pages for games.

The 3DS icon screen expands when you fill it up. How does it work on Wii U? I really don't want to delete stuff. Anyone with a similar problem?

Im sure it will expand once it gets to a certain point, if its going off your HDD
btw remember our PMs? I got a wiiU! :D NNID:foxuzamaki

Is there a list of external HDs that work with the system? I wanted to impulse buy from the eShop but didn't have room in the fridge, because I bought the basic set last year :

Just purchased a WiiU Mario bundle for one of my employees (he paid for it, I get free shipping at my house :P). Other two random people at the office also bought theirs so its definitely getting some "mainstream" feel back.

I'm so glad I bought the Wii U. I'm having such a blast with Mario 3D World, and WWHD. I think my favorite Wii U feature so far is the Wii Tvii app. I was pretty pleased that the set up was pretty painless and easy.

I bought a refurbished 32GB WiiU from Gamestop today. Waiting on the $9.99 ZombiU sale and maybe if I can be bothered I will go to K-Mart to get that meager discount on SM3DW.

The WiiU is backwards compatible with Wii games, correct? What are some decent $10-20 Wii gems I might be able to pick up? Preferably ones that will not require me to purchase a Wiimote.

Anything worth picking up on the eShop?

just wanted to say that this thread is like soaking your arse into a hot spring after several hours of being exposed to a freezing blizzard. Love y'all, old and new WiiU owners, these Mario sales and overreacting posts kinda killed my mood. Ya the bloody best

Well, I finally joined the Wii U wagon! Picked up my Mario/Luigi Wii U bundle + Pro Controller at Target for that $25 GC incentive. I've already bought Mario 3D World and Wind Waker HD, so I'm waiting for those in the mail next week. I'll borrow Pikmin 3 from a friend when I'm done with the games I already have for the U.

I love Miiverse a lot. Lots of incredible drawings to view and share. Probably won't use the media apps on Wii U unless I don't have my PS3 with me.

It's a neat system for sure.

There's no such a thing D:

And get Earthbound and Toki Tori 2+

;P

Do you still believe it will be discontinued next year?

I am still not completely convinced otherwise. But I guess we'll see.

It's a sad situation for Nintendo. It will take a lot to turn this around, and I am not entirely convinced that they have got what it takes.

They'll keep making games, they have enough money to last them another 50 years. Plus 3DS keeps making them money, even if this console fails it wont stop them from making more because it's what the do. Many say go 3rd party or mobile, but that is a worst move financially because they wont make money off hardware, they'd have to pay licensing fee's and have to sell quite a bit more to make what they do off every million piece of hardware or software. I get that it'll be hard to turn it around, but they're starting to do a bit of that, I don't think by this time next year they'll be completely where they'd like to be, but I believe they'll be much closer.

You'll have to pick up a Wii Remote at some point to play some good Wii games.

Essential eShop games that don't require a Wii Remote:

Might Switch Force: Hyper Drive Edition
Mutant Mudds Deluxe
Toki Tori 2
Nano Assault Neo
Little Inferno
The Cave
Trine 2

Virtual Console:

Most SNES games

I'm a little confused about the Wii backwards compatibility mode.

What's the point of allowing the tablet to work? You can't be in another room playing a Wii game...right? It doesn't let you plug controllers into the tablet does it?

Also any benefits of playing Wii games on a Wii U versus the Wii? Graphics looked about the same unless there's some smoothing options I'm missing.

The signal passing through an HDMI to your tv cleans up the image a bit vs component. Its a small difference, but a nice one since the wii u scales better than a random tv.

And you can play a Wii game in another room with the gamepad mirroring. With a sensor bar built in, it can replicate everything you need. The wii motes work with Bluetooth and the range on those is greater than the pad itself so it shouldn't be an issue. Its probably best used sitting on your lap or something while using a CC Pro connected to a wiimote.

I was thinking about grabbing SMTIV during the Atlus sale tomorrow but I'm thinking I'm gonna pull the trigger on Zombi U instead. I've played that damn demo too much.

Also I just tried playing Pikmin 3 for the first time and it's running an update...what?

I already updated my system twice. Once with 3d world on-disc update, then once with downloading the latest update off the internet and installing it. How can an older game like Pikmin 3 require a system update before running?

It must be a game specific update surely?

Otherwise that is really weird.

Love my new WiiU. I had been waiting months for a nice limited edition style bundle, and had also waited for a decent black friday-ish deal. Target delivered by including my Zelda Windwaker bundle with that $25 gift card deal. So happy!

A good friend of mine got me a copy of Monster Hunter Ultimate during that Amazon daily deal.

Anyone have an idea what Amazon might charge for COD Ghosts for the WiiU for the Nov 28th daily deal? It seems that stores only mention the 360 and PS3 versions being on super discount. Amazon is the only one having the WiiU version on daily deal, but the black friday watch sites out there hardly mention the WiiU SKU for COD Ghosts.

You need a Wiimote to access any of the Wii U's BC features. When the Wii U goes into backwards compatibility mode, it essentially just turns into a Wii. So if you're going to make extensive use of BC then you will want to invest in a Wiimote, Nunchuck and possibly a Classic Controller

Picked up a Wii U Wind Waker bundle and Mario 3D World last weekend. I have some gripes with the system itself, but goddamn these games are incredible. Gorgeous graphics and incredible design. Proves that you don't need the most powerful system to make captivating experiences. This is my first Nintendo system since the N64 (I skipped Gamecube and Wii), and I am absolutely giddy at the moment.

Despite the things I don't like about the system (how the gamepad mirrors my TV when playing mario), I have to give Nintendo props for doing something DIFFERENT. The entire device just oozes a personality that my other systems don't. The whole Miiverse and social thing is pretty cool, I like how everytime I'm at the main menu I see a ton of other people doing things and posting about what's happening.

Keep the good stuff rolling, Nintendo. You're doing alright.

In my case i can as the wiimote signal works in my bedroom
