Just bought a Wii U. Surprisingly, there were no shortages.

Still waitig for find a deal and snag one up.

Quick questions:
I saw earlier that the disc drive is loud. I don't ever remember being bothered by this with any console, how bad is it exactly?

Does it run very hot? PS3 pushed out enough heat to noticeably warm the room up, it was sort of an inconvenience. Could leave the Wii on all day though.

How bad is the WiFi? Are we talking about issues across the house, or just a couple of rooms down?

...where can I find one of these good deals?

mine's pretty quiet, I never notice it

Console is really cool doesn't feel warm at all.

My wifi works great, I have my router 2 rooms down and on the second floor, never had any issues since launch. (well a few, but that's been issues with my service provider)

Why was that site banned actually? I remember it used to be referenced here a lot. Should no stock whatsoever be put into that image?

VGC has a tendency to make up numbers. It's a few years old now, but there's a good article about it here.

http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=18919

One of the most unexpected results in the recent NPD charts for May was the appearance of the poorly reviewed Iron Man game for PlayStation 2 in the Top 10 of the charts, with 130,000 copies sold.

Thinking about it carefully, with the movie rocketing to unexpected success during the month, it would make sense that the game would sell well. But it's not the kind of game that you're likely to estimate in the Top 10 - and indeed VGC did not, estimating 53,000 units in sales, according to VGC staffers.

But what's surprising is that Iron Man for PlayStation 2 has been adjusted in its official VVGC page so that its first four weeks of sales (encompassing May) add up to 111,000 units.

Clearly, these numbers have been changed after NPD debuted, showing a couple of things. Firstly, if you were a journalist, you could have cited VGC as saying Iron Man was a flop on PS2, selling half as many units - when NPD vibrantly disagrees. In addition, and more interestingly, it shows that VGC trusts NPD over their own prediction data by retroactively changing things to better match.

ive put about 4 hours into the Nyko Pro controller (the one that was on sale on amazon for $12)

i'd say it was a really good buy. feels really good in your hands, alot like a 360 controller. joystick feels maybe a tiny bit too high and the button require a little more force than average. in SM3dW this sometimes leads to randomly doing scratches when youre in a cat suit, or randomly stopping running due to letting up and reapplying pressure. it's not a defect because it happens on X and Y. i'm also pretty sure i never would have noticed except on a game like mario where you are pretty much constantly holding Y or X.

i kinda like the fake analog triggers. although i could see why someone would prefer regular buttons. i'm not sure i'd recommend it at it's current price (30ish) but for 12 it was a steal.

Thanks for the information. I went ahead and ordered one earlier today. Well, it was out of stock for Amazon as the seller, but they let me order it for $13 and will ship it when it becomes available. I'm sure it's well worth $13.

Not in defense of the image truthness, but it says it is from the black friday WEEK

I think the number that was deemed a "success" for November for Wii U was 330k. 200k for Black Friday week would be a good start. But they've never come close to selling 130 in a month prior, so it's going to be interesting to see if they can do it. I know a lot of people that have bought one this month, though. Myself included.

Yeah I bet this month will see record breaking numbers for Wii U systems sold. And it should keep going up with Mario 3D World out now.

My cousin came at my house and I showed him my wii u. We played 2 stages of mario 3d world, and he liked it a lot. I could see the wonder in his eyes. But there was a problem. After stop playing he asked if I bought the tablet controller for my wii. Then I gave him a more detailed view on the box and he realized that it was not a wii(he is a Wii owner too). I couldn't believe people would really make this mistake until I saw with my own eyes. At least now he wants to buy a WiiU for him.

I am now viewing the credits of 101 and picking my brain pieces up off of the floor.

Yup. I was struggling not to practically cheer and laugh when finishing the game at 3 AM. Literally the only game that had any chance of feeling completely boring after W101's ending was Rayman Legends.

Nintendo couldn't have really hoped for more than 300k for November, a huge difference from October when the Wii U sold below 60k. If true, what is that like a 500% increase?

yeah if those numbers I've been seeing are close to accurate than that's pretty damn good for the Wii U imo. hopefully it will continue to see those types of numbers through christmas, slump in january, and then bump a bit for DKC and even more so for Mario Kart 8. if they can get Kart out by March or early April that could do wonders for its momentum

They do have January to push Wii Fit U with the casuals thinking about New Years resolutions and such.

The first 3-4 months of 2014 are going to be huge for the Wii U and Nintendo needs to capitalize for the entire year so they can generate enough momentum to turn 300k to 600k for next years November.

After they release Smash Bros in May or June, they then need to have X and cap the year off with Zelda.................definitely could happen guys!

How long is W101? I know this can sound dumb to some people, but I can't justify dropping 50 bucks on something less than 6 hours long

It took me about 25 hours, but that included me replaying missions for money and loot.

And it was beyond fucking awesome all the way through.

that is genius. I wonder if Japan realizes that they could sell gangbusters by playing on this tendency in Americans. they could have a whole marketing campaign about avoiding all the resolution-ers and just buy Wii Fit U and stay home haha

Ugh so many things to want right now. Wii U, PS4, Vita...
It's a good time to game.

I know that feel bro.

They're predicting 9 million consoles sold by April 2014. That means 5 million between November and the end of March. Anything less than 1.5 to 2 million in November means they're not coming close to their number.

Might be that I adore Legend of the Mystical Ninja, so I picked it up today, but the pure joy of having that game in my hands, playing off-tv and hearing that music again... Man. This is what the virtual console is about. I really hope they start releasing more games for it, so everybody can play their favorite SNES/NES/other game this way.

They're predicting 9 million consoles sold between April 2013 and the end of March 2014. So they actually need more like 8.5 million between November and the end of March.

Hi Gaffers !

Never thought I would say that one day... but I just bought a Wii U !

Was planning to buy a PS4 ( just finished the Last of Us on ps3..amazing game ! ), but with my "way of life now" 30+ , married etc.. I wanted to be able to play less but FUN with my wife !

She likes video games but only co-op fun games like...Mario..or Tak on ps2 :D

The only games we was able to play co-op that she liked on ps3 was Rayman Origins.

It's my first Nintendo home console ever (just had a game boy when I was kid).

So : Wii U Premium SMBU + Pack Wii Party U / Wii U mote + Extra Wii U mote + Zelda HD

Hope will have some fun with this beauty !

PS: Do we need other accessories to be able to enjoy the games ? nunchuk ? game pro controller ? I don't know the Nintendo consoles at all...

Congrats.

You don't need a Pro controller for local multiplayer until probably Smash 4 comes out.

Look into Zombi U's multiplayer, its actually quite fun with a non/casual gamer.

DPD are delivering my WiiU + Mario bundle today!!!

Went into ASDA to see if I could snag Zombie U, W101 or Nintendoland - they have massive PS & Xbox sections (obviously), decent sized PC, 3DS and Wii sections, and...

a Wii U section that contains only used PS3 games. I am cry :(

So the general GAF consensus seems to be that W101 is the best game for the system?

Need to decide what to pick up next after I've binged on Mario over Christmas.

Seems to be like

1. Mario 3d World
2.-3. W101 & Pikmin 3

Depending on which genre you like most.

Anyway they are 3 great games. Really great.

The general consensus of people who actually own the system seems to be that there are at least 5 games with an extraordinary quality on this little system. Ranking them is up to you and your personal tastes. The Wii U had a really rough start and terrible first 6 months but it made up for it with the second half of the year. For a console being in the market for just one year i would say the collection of avaiable games is actually quite good.

Someone is offering me a white Wii U and Black Ops 2 + Nintendoland for $200 --- good deal or bad deal? I'm not too familiar with the system but I really want to play the new Mario.
